En trevlig bok där Gärdenfors på ett metodiskt, pedagogiskt och fantasieggande vis levererar vad titeln utlovar: en redogörelse för tänkandets evolution. Den evolutionära resan sträcker sig från de mest basala sensationerna till de svårfångat högtflygande abstraktionerna, och fenomen som medvetande, självmedvetande och kultur benas ut och penetreras i sina grundvalar. Greppet med den talande apan Egon, som fungerar som retoriskt bollplank för Gärdenfors, kan måhända initialt framstå som putslustigt, men är faktiskt kul och lyckat. Gärdenfors berikar dessutom sin redogörelse med referenser till – utöver en massa studier – ett brett spann av humaniora på ett fint och föredömligt vis. Paul Valéry är en mycket givande kamrat i framställningen.

Professorn i kognitionsvetenskap, Peter Gärdenfors, skriver på ett lättillgängligt sätt om tänkande, evolution och skillnaden mellan människa och apa. Till sin hjälp har han en side-kick i form av den pratande apan Egon som på ett humoristiskt sätt ställer relevanta frågor (när det inte blir för filosofiskt och tråkigt, då somnar han istället). Ett kul koncept för en bok som egentligen inte levererar så mycket nytt och banbrytande om man redan är någorlunda påläst i ämnet. Men Hur Homo blev sapiens fungerar säkerligen fint för någon som är ny på området och vill få en inte alltför svårläst introduktion.

3/5 for this brilliant masterpiece. i could have given more but i couldn't pretend enjoying the last chapters of it. overall it was a very good. not only does it deal with thinking yet it also deals with linguistics; the way sapiens came to speak and everything.

The book is an amazing cognitive analysis of the human history since the past beginning and the source of the the thoughts in a point of view of evolutionary meaning. He made exactly what he proposed and answer the question in how works the transition between apes and humans as cited in book title.

The references are great and the language used is very well easy to understand. All his theories is very well funded in research with apes, child or other animals to study deeply the frontier between the human thoughts and the apes. This book changes the way I see the world: the human being evolution and the animals conscious. The last chapters it's just amazing when he get to the point where we living in, using devices as extensions of our language and memory. I'm just wonder how he extends the Darwin theories to the human thoughts and the evolution and surviving of the human being in the primitive world using their intelligence to create the initial thoughts as we know today.
