"Welcome to my fantasy." Kendall breathed in the richly scented air as she paused at the top of the flight of stairs leading from the small private jet.

"Pardon?"

She gave the flight attendant a quick smile. "Where's Tattoo?"

The attendant, a young woman with a vapid smile, looked perplexed. "Sorry, who?"

Those are the first lines of this book, and I'm not ashamed to say that I know who Tattoo is and had a silly smile on my face when I read them. I even shouted, "The plane! The plane!" :)

Okay, let's stop this nonsense and move on to what matters - the review.

Agent Kendall Frasier’s partner has been shot in "friendly fire" during a drug bust and she's having a hard time trying to cope with it. As part of her psychological evaluation and therapy, she agrees to take a week's vacation at Corazon del Mar, a facility the agency has liberated from a minor drug lord who’s been busted. She isn't too happy when she finds out that Agent Zane Vincent, the man responsible for the shooting, is part of the group of agents undergoing therapy at the tropical island, but there's nothing she can do about it. Thankfully, they aren't required to socialize with each other so she decides to simply ignore him. But that's easier said than done, and Kendall can't help feeling a connection with Zane - especially after she realizes he feels worse about the shooting than she does. As they begin to spend time together and get to know each other, their mutual attraction becomes impossible to deny. But what will happen when their week's vacation/therapy is over and they're back in the real world?

I really liked the premise of this book and was looking forward to reading it, but I'm afraid I ended up sightly disappointed. Simply put, the story was too darn short: when things began to get interesting, it ended. I knew this was a novella so I wasn't expecting too much depth in Kendall's and Zane's characterization, but I still felt there was something missing. The story is written from the third person POV but we're only privy to Kendall's feelings, and that made it difficult to connect with Zane. When I thought I had him figured out, it was time to say goodbye and hope for the best in their future.

On the bright side, I enjoyed Ms. Hart's writing and the way Kendall and Zane's relationship was developed. Even though this is a short story, I didn't feel that their romance was rushed and I believed there was more than a mere sexual attraction between them by the end of the book. Having said that, I can't help wondering what future two DEA Agents can have.

Overall, this was a quick, nice read. I only wish it was longer, because Zane needed more pages to be fleshed out and the story could have used an epilogue to give closure to the HFN/HEA.

Now, because I'm shallow and like pretty things, I must share "my" Zane with you:

Photobucket

The guy on the cover might be hot, but he isn't Zane because he's clearly not multi-ethnic and doesn't have a close-shaved head like Zane. Yeah, I can tell that even though the guy's head is cut from the picture. I pay attention to the most insignificant details, LOL.

I enjoyed this novella from Megan Hart, but I wish it had been a full length novel so we could have gotten more of the relationship development and more details of the assignment that went terribly wrong.

That said, it was still a great story with a healthy serving of heat and a hero and heroine I’d love to know more about. In fact, this would make a great prologue to a full length novel – maybe a year down the road something happens to separate them for a time until they can work their way back to a happily ever after.

Kendall Fraiser is a DEA agent and Zane Vincent is an undercover agent working for the DEA.They were both forced to take a two week vacation to Corazon del Mar,to undergo psychological evaluation and therapy. This all happens after a tragic accident, where Kendall loses her partner,Dan Whitney in the line of duty and she puts the blame on Zane Vincent. Because of this result, she can't stand Zane being in her presence. I think Kendall was a little snooty with the situation, because when she comes to realize she didn't care for her partner at all,it was just guilt for losing her asswipe partner.Kendall felt as if she could have done more to protect him, since it was her job to protect her partner. Now she feels like she failed him,and no matter how much she disliked him, in her eyes,he still didn't deserve to die. But as they say he died in a "Friendly Fire" Zane had tried controlling the situation during the bust to take down the Yoda brothers (drug dealers) Kendall's partner Dan, had stepped in the way of Zane's bullet. Of course after everything that went down, that is why Kendall blames Zane for the sudden death of her partner. Little does she know,it was harder on Vincent then her.

After a few days of bickering between the two. Kendall gives Zane the benefit of the doubt, and OOOOH BOY! It's gets steamy! Is that what happens, when opposites attract? Cause I swear their little rendezvous on the island leads to puppy love and all that! ahahahaha....Keeping their hands off one another was a huge No-No.The attraction was definitely there. Lolz!

I thought it was a very cute read, just a little disappointed it was cut short.I would loved to have read more on the relationship between Kendall and Zane progress outside of their one-week vacation, but it was good,I liked it!.For a Megan Hart novel,it was quite different than many she has written.I guess not everything she writes will make you sob and see reality in a whole totally different view. So it was really nice to see a different change in her writing style. It was a very well-developed story plot and I definitely loved the characters!

OK, wow, you can really read this in one sitting! This book is pretty steamy, but it just wasn't long enough.

The first thing I HAVE to mention is, thank God this got re-issued, because by looking at the previous cover I might have not been in such a rush to read it! So two thumbs up on going with the hot guy at the beach.

OK, so Kendall is a DEA agent, her partner recently got killed during friendly fire (he jumped in front of a bullet, by accident, while on an investigation). She has blamed, and hated the agent that shot that bullet and accidentally killed him, Zane Vincent.

Somehow a big "company outing" is organized for everyone involved to get some therapy and relaxation and they go to a beautiful island for a week-long getaway.

Kendall can't stand the fact that she has to be around Vincent, made all the worst when he was moved in to the room next to hers (in a secluded private cabin). Of course their first encounter at the cabin couldn't have been more awkward. She thought she was all alone, had been getting busy in the shower without finding release, then goes outside in just a towel and tries to finish up the job, except she notices too late that he was outside smoking a cigarette and when she's face to face with him is exactly the moment she finally climaxes! WHAT?? I had to read more!

These two have pretty good chemistry, I guess there was an attraction on his part before this, because he went after her very straightforward, and as with a lot of Hart's heroines, she gives as good as she gets.

If you get a chance you have to read this! It's short, it's hot, it's sexy, it's Hart!

I really enjoyed Megan Hart’s latest short story, Friendly Fire. Kendall and Zane are both on an enforced “vacation” abroad after a drug bust results in the death of Kendall’s partner…by Zane’s bullet. Given several options, they both end up figuring sun and sand are the best place to recuperate and be physically and mentally evaluated by department professionals. Zane is attracted to Kendall, but both agents’ guilt in the death of Kendall’s partner prevents them from moving from agents to lovers. But close quarters and a little R&R leads to some hot interaction in and out of bed. My only complaint was the shortness of the story, because I really liked both of them. Neither sit around and mope or whine, and each are pretty quick to realize the how’s and why’s of why they constantly battle, and where these feelings really stem from. There were no false plot twists written just to mess with them; they weren’t needed. Highly recommend.

As a huge fan of Megan Hart's,I was really looking forward to this short story from her. After it taking me only about 45 minutes to read it from beginning to end, I have to say it fell a little flat for me.
Kendall Frasier has been forced by the FBI to take a mandatory two weeks off after she witnesses the accidental shooting of her partner. Kendall joins a dozen or more FBI agents on a trip to an exotic island where they are to engage in physical examinations, therapy sessions, and pure relaxation. She is furious to find out that Agent Zane Vincent, the man responsible for killing her partner, has also been made to go on this trip.
Kendall cannot deny the attraction that she feels towards Zane and as luck would have it, the two of them end of sharing a cottage together.
I love the way that Megan Hart writes her characters. Her characters are so full of realistic emotions and feelings that you feel like you are reading a story about someone you know personally. No detail is left out when she sets the stage for her characters and it's very easy to become attached to them. Friendly Fire was no exception. I immediately felt pain for Kendall as she struggled with her true feelings regarding her partners' death as well as with Zane and the demons he had to deal with at being the cause of such a tragedy.
The buildup of sexual tension between Zane and Kendall is sizzling, when it came down to them finally being together, it was WAY too quick. I wanted more! It seemed after the two of them finally gave in to their mutual attraction, that everything was rushed along and that part definitely fell flat for me. Having said that, I realize that this is a short story, not a full length novel and length limitations may apply, but still, I missed the detailed love scenes.
Overall, this was a decent read and I still am a faithful fan of Megan Hart's and look forward to reading many more of her stories! Three and a half stars.

Friendly Fire by Megan Hart is a short erotic story that imparts a very sweet story. Kendall Frasier and Zane Vincent are Federal Agents who are sent away to an exotic island to get some forced R&R after a case they were working on went bad. Kendall’s partner was accidentally shot by Zane as he attempted to keep a dangerous situation from escalating into a blood bath. Kendall and Zane heal each other’s emotional wounds caused by the circumstances that led them to this forced get away. The way they open up to each other emotionally and physically makes a woman crave what they have. Megan Hart does a very good job of telling a love story in a short amount of page time. I am very impressed with her talent to weave a tale that leaves you wanting more (in a very good way!).

Happy Reading from Bona Fide Reflections!

Great story with an even better background & premise that, IMO, would have been better suited in a full length format. Or, maybe I just love character development & watching storylines unfold and novellas just don't offer me that. They are more "wham, bam, thank you ma'am" which is good sometimes, but not all. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I wish this could be an actual, physical book because that cover is pure eye-candy (and one of my favorite covers among Hart's bibliography.)

I'm technically reading this book way later than when I bought it, but I'm glad I had the chance to do so. A brief read about two agents who are at odds on an island meant to help them cope with a tragic accident. Yet while Kendall starts off blaming Zane for the incident of "friendly fire", she realizes how much guilt he feels over the incident, and finds moments to get to know him more. The two have good chemistry; I'll admit I had a good chuckle more than one at their banter throughout the story. And as per usual, Hart's attention to the sensuality is vivid and on-point. A couple of gripes - the tale was a little too brief for there to be a full reckoning with such heavy issues and I would've loved to see the main and side characters have more time to develop. Still, I liked what it had to offer.

Overall score: 3.5/5 stars.

This story is like a single, exquisite truffle in the middle of a large, glittering, crystal platter. It's delicious, and if you only wanted a small bite of decadent chocolate, it would be perfect. But, seeing as the platter would easily hold a large chocolate torte, if you wanted a bit *more,* you might feel a bit frustrated. At 50 pages, this is short, even for a Novella, but it's also Hart, and she's an amazing talent. . The first 25 pages are rich with character and backstory-- Kendall and Zane are two FBI agents forced by the bureau to take R&R on a tropical retreat with other agents recovering from various bad on-the-job injuries and events. Kendall's and Zane's injuries are of the soul-shattering psychic kind: Kendall's partner was killed as part of a raid when he ran out from cover, colliding with a warning shot Zane had fired. Both parties feel incredible guilt, and Kendall blames Zane. The tension practically crawls off the pages. As we hit page 25 though, I started wailing, "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" We can't be at the half-way point. The next 25 pages were a rush to cram in some hot lovin' and a HEA. All of which is well done. However, the characterization and conflict coupled with awesome writing would EASILY support a single title release that could burn up the Romantic Suspense charts. She released this story the first time in 2004, but she's re-edited it for Carina, and I dearly wish that she would have considered reworking this into a longer story. I suspect that she has different, but equally delicious treats baking for readers right now, and having fallen in love with her voice, I will happily consume whatever she delivers. If you are new to Hart, this would be an excellent introduction as it's spicy, but not as hot as some of her later works, and it shows off her writing chops in a nice little package. And if you're a fan of Hart, this is a nice way to bide time for her next ST release. However, I wonder if $2.99 for a 50 page story is a little high--this would be far more appetizing at .99 cents or 1.99--a more reasonable price for a tasty little truffle.

Friendly Fire was a fun and quick read, perfect for by the pool or a break in bewteen full-length novels.

The story was well-written, kept my interest and flowed nicely with a great setting; I liked the characters and their background. The sex scenes were steamy but brief and light for an erotica, I was left wanting.
I enjoyed the whole premises of Friendly Fire but honestly; it was just too short for me to become really invested in the characters. It was like when you see someone interesting walking down the street; you follow them with your eyes the whole way down until they disappear but once they turn that corner you’re done with them and won’t think about them again. Does that make sense? LoL
Despite it being so short though Kendal and Zane’s relationship didn’t feel rushed and I felt that by the end it was more then just physical but there wasn’t much in the way of closures and I wish there was an epilogue.
Overall, a good read.

This was a fun little quickie that shows just how much fun finding romance on a vacation, even a working one, is just what a person needs.

Kendall and Zane are both feeling guilty for the same action, Kendall's partner shot by Zane. They each had a reason to be wary of the other, but are forced together on a vacation/medical get your head together trip. It is only as they are forced in each other's proximity and actually talk about what happen that they start to understand what the other feels. And of course this leads to some naughty play that is great fun to read.

I would love to have seen this story expanded more and how things will work out for them.

A cruise turns deadly when the hero, a SEAL, and the woman he's head-over-heels in love with are taken captive for ransom by a Mexican drug lord. Well-developed secondary characters add a nice level of complexity and nearly steal the show in this younger man and older woman romance with a happy ending.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic thrillers with light sexual description. Due to the topic, but realistic to the situation, there is graphic violence and a child in danger.

How I got this book: NetGalley

This is only the second book I’ve read by Megan Hart, but I have to say I actually found myself enjoying this book despite a few initial reservations I had.

Kendall Frasier is a DEA agent dealing with the loss of her partner. She is having to work through her issues of guilt and anger and confusion, and was given the choice between going to an island on the department or dealing with her issues at home. Wanting the beach and sun, she chooses to head to the island. But unfortunately for her, Zane Vincent the man who killed her partner in a round of friendly fire is also there during that time.

While Kendall is instantly attracted to Zane, she honestly doesn’t want anything to do with him. The guilt and anger over her partner are eating her up inside, and a relationship with the man who caused all her grief is the last thing she wants. But as she deals with everything that happened, she realizes that Zane might be able to provide for her in ways she never imagined.

My initial impression of this story was a little weary. This short 53 page story doesn’t have any chapters, and that quite honestly threw me for a loop. But I was quickly pulled into Kendall and Zane’s story. The issues that Kendall had to deal with in regards to losing her partner were very real and Hart portrayed them in a way that was easy to relate to.

I know that Hart is known for her very sexy and steamy erotic novels, but a part of me felt as if Kendall and Zane jumped into something physical in order to escape the emotional turmoil within. While that isn’t something new, it was also somewhat hard for me to believe in their HEA. To me, something that starts off like that is rarely able to last on a significant level, and parts of me just couldn’t buy it.

That being said, I also thought that both Kendall and Zane were able to provide a lot for each other, and did a great job of really helping each other deal with their trauma. While an incident of losing someone is never easy, they were both able to really guide each other into acceptance, and that spoke to me.

The physical relationship between the two was very smoking, and although I’ve only read a few of Hart’s books, I know that I can count on her to provide a steamy hero and heroine who click on so many levels.

All in all, I give Friendly Fire 3 out of 5 island getaways!

Friendly Fire by Megan Hart
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Friendly Fire is a story about forgiveness and love with lots of hot sex thrown into the mix. Kendall’s partner is killed in the line of duty and she blames herself. She had issues with him but didn’t want to see him dead. She agrees to a weeklong “vacation” that is sanctioned by the bureau where she will undergo physical and psychological testing while trying to enjoy the beach.

Zane is also an undercover agent and the one that shot Kendall’s partner. They were working a case and Zane tried to stop the slaughter but caught Kendall’s partner with a stray bullet. Zane now has to live with the fact that he shot & killed another agent, even though it was ruled an accident. Will Kendall be able to forgive him, will he ever forgive himself?

The air is sexually charged whenever Zane and Kendall get within 10 feet of each other. Both find the other attractive and interesting but Kendall is angry with him and herself because of what happened with her partner. Fate puts them in a cabin that shares a balcony and things definitely heat up.

Kendall constantly had to prove herself to her partner at work that she was just as competent as any of the men. She is used to being alone. Her job doesn’t allow for much time to date so she has become self sufficient, so to speak. She doesn’t realize how unfulfilled she is until Zane enters the picture.

I like that she is a strong female lead but she still has a feminine, girly side. We see that in her delight at simply putting on a dress and makeup instead of work clothes. She is also comfortable enough with her sexuality to know what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. She is still cautious as her and Zane start the dance.

I loved the scene where each was in their own bedrooms; it was very erotic to read. The scene on the tour was also very hot. There is good chemistry between the main characters so the story flows nicely. I wish we had a little more time with this couple. I would be interested to see if there is any truth to the concerns the doctor had.

The scenery was beautiful, the characters were interesting and the story had plenty of steam, what’s not to love? Overall I enjoyed Friendly Fire and give it 4 Flaming Hearts.

I received this from Netgalley but that had no bearing on my review. I also have posted the review to the blog (http://scorchingbookreviews.blogspot.com)

Police officer Kendall is sent on a therapeutic retreat after her partner is shot, by friendly fire, during a drugs bust. Feeling incredibly guilty for not doing everything to save her partner, she doesn't feel that she should be on such a fabulous retreat. She feels worse with the realisation that she will be spending some quality time with the officer she dislikes the most; Alex Zane. Zane is the officer responsible for her partner’s death, and he makes her plain uncomfortable. With his massive stature and movie star good looks, Zane certainly cuts an imposing figure on their Island paradise, aswell as in her fantasies. After realising that he feels worse than she does about the incident, she gives into their mutual attraction. The therapist warns them both against starting up a relationship when their emotions are so raw, but is this the start of some long term healing for the both of them?

I always review short stories with one question in mind; do I wish it were longer? The answer for this one is a resounding yes. I liked both of the characters and I liked the premise. Kendall and Zane didn’t jump between the sheets on page 2, which would often be the case in a short story, but I felt this was appropriate for the background of this tale. Kendall needed to realise that Zane wasn’t unaffected by the whole situation; that he did care that he killed a man. Only then did she feel comfortable enough to feel something for him. The sexual tension builds nicely, with the attraction building on each side, before they finally allow themselves to admit to each other the amount of lust they feel (the mutual masturbation scene was smoking....reminded me of a scene from Sex and The City :D ) I loved the sex scenes. From the scene where Kendall makes Zane show him how he “Fakes it”, to the scene where they have sex on the rocks, I just felt pure lust and affection from both characters. I hate it when the characters just walk away from each other at the end of the tale so this one worked out well for me. It’s a story that made me smile and kept me entertained. Definitely a writer to watch.

I'm always a bit anxious when I pick up a short story because let's be honest most of us have the prejudice that a short story can't have the depth and complexity of a full novel but Megan Hart did it again and showed me that even her shorter work will grab me on the first page and leave me with a smile on my face at the end.

Kendell is a DEA agent and she finds herself on a "paradise" island. We all would squee with delight at such an opportunity but the reason for her stay deminishes her enthusiasm. Her partner got killed by one of her fellow agents and the "murderer" is also on this island to find a way to find a way to live with the situation they are both faced with. It doesn't help that Kendall is very attracted to Zane, even though he is the reason for all her current problems.

The story itself sounds depressing and when I just look at it I would think "how convenient" and just shake my head. But while reading this story I was enthralled by the characters and their inner struggles. It always amazes me how much emotion can be found in one of Hart's novels. She has a way to make her characters so complex and 3 dimensional even in such a short format.

Friendly Fire is a romantic and very emotional story but we also find some rather funny moments in it. It has exactly the humor I like, popculture innuendos that make me smile and all in all a very varied cast of sidecharacters. All in a bit over 50 pages.

And let's not forget the romantic aspect. Kendall and Zane have a hard and rocky road before they finally get to each other but believe me it was worth every second. There was one scene that made me all goey inside and always made me giggle- I really loved it.

Friendly Fire is funny, sexy and very emotional. It will show you about how deep and thoughtful a short story can be. Another keeper by Ms Hart- we all have to thank Carina Press for re-releasing this one. Highly recommended read for the short entertainment- it will leave you smiling and happy.

From Publisher:
After Agent Kendall Frasier's partner is shot in "friendly fire" during a drug bust, she agrees to take a week's vacation on a tropical island as part of her psychiatric evaluation. Sand, sun, sea-what could be better to help her work through her guilt? Even if the presence of the man responsible for the shooting, Agent Zane Vincent, seems counterproductive to her mental health.
As Kendall gets to know Zane, and realizes he feels worse about what happened than she does, it becomes impossible to hate him. And their mutual attraction becomes impossible to deny.
Kendall and Zane soon agree to put the event that brought them together in the past-and spend the present exploring their most erotic desires. Do they have a future in the real world when their week in paradise is over?

My Review:
I enjoyed this very short novella. The writing was very good, there was a nice flow, good character and story development. I really enjoyed the plot, the vacation for the agents was a great setting. The main characters themselves were interesting. Kendall was trying to cope with mixed feelings about her partners death, and Zane was trying to overcome guilt. Zane and Kendall were good together, not just in bed. I particularly enjoyed a particular “when Harry met Sally” scene. For such a short novel, it took awhile to get to the steamy sex scenes, but they were worth the wait. My main issues with this novella was the length. It really was a very, very short story, a quick read. It is tough to justify purchasing such a short story, even though it is a good story. I feel that this story would be great in an anthology.

I'll say 3 1/2 stars overall.

(Acquired e-book courtesy of Net Galley)

DEA agent Kendall Fraiser is sent to a tropical island for mandatory recuperation following the death of her partner during a drug raid. Kendall is filled with a mixture of feelings ranging from anger to undeniable lust when the agent whose stray bullet took her partner’s life is sent to the island as well.

Zane Vincent is well aware that Kendall blames him for her partner’s death—and he can’t deny the fact that it was his bullet that took his life. But trying to cope with his own guilt over the incident, while combating Kendall’s blame-rage, grows tiresome for him fast, and Zane decides Kendall has a bigger issue with herself, than she actually does with him.

Kendall’s conscience is consumed with all of the ways she might have protected her partner better, and wants nothing more than to pin equal blame on Zane. But after a couple of days on the island, with Zane’s unrelenting pursuit to purge her of her demons, Kendall begins to realize she’s not only NOT helping the memory of her partner, she’s not helping herself move on.

For a very short novella (768 Kindle pages), Megan Hart’s Friendly Fire is a good little sit down read if you’re looking for something fast, and a little hot. There is actual character development, which isn't always the case with a short story. The characters are likable enough, and may have been even better, had I had more time with them.

My only real gripe is that this story—even for a novella—seems wrapped up a little too fast at the end, where I thought even a few more pages may have made a difference.

How do you get someone to forgive you for something you did when you can’t even forgive yourself? And how do you live with the consequences for the rest of your life.

Out to endure a forced two week vacation Agent Kendall Frasier lands on vacation paradise island for rest and evaluation courtesy of a shooting that left her partner dead. On board the plane is Agent Zane Vincent, the owner of the gun that killed her partner. This is going to prove to be an interesting two weeks.

For Zane Vincent, how can he live with what happened? For Kendall Frasier, forgiving Zane Vincent isn’t as easy as forgetting that there was nothing she could have done to save her partner. Therapy and time bring the agents to an impasse...accept what has happened and explore the growing attraction between them or walk away and live with even more regrets.

Kendall and Zane are two of life’s more extreme characters. They live hard, they play hard and they accept what life is throwing at them. Megan Hart is great at creating such totally complex characters and give them the intelligence to find their way back to life. Throwing them together creates passion and emotions that are explosive. The brevity of this story is its only flaw. You want to know so much more about them and experience more of their time together, alone and exposed down to their souls.

This is a passionate, well written and entertaining short story. What else would you expect from Megan Hart. If you can stop staring at the cover!!

Review: 3 out of 5 stars

After the death of her partner in the line of duty, Kendall Frasier, a DEA agent agrees to a 2 week island vacation to undergo psychological evaluation and therapy; it was also a chance for her to enjoy a bit of R&R.
Not wanting anything to do with Zane Vincent, the agent responsible for the stray bullet, she finds herself on the same island as him to deal with the emotional turmoil they are both feeling.

Despite the tension, there was a mutual attraction between Zane and Kendall and although she tried to avoid him, he always seemed to be around and was quite sweet and charming. There was nothing she could have done to save her partner but forgiving Zane didn’t come easy for her.

Both were carrying around different forms of guilt, Zane for killing another agent and Kendall for not protecting her partner, she also wasn’t too fond of him as a person or as an agent. They are bought together by tragedy and slowly find forgiveness and love with one another.

The smexy scenes were hot, hot, hot!

I wish this was a full length novel, it was too short at only 53 pages & there was a lot more of a back story I was quite interested in knowing.

The story was well written and certainly held my interest, I enjoyed Kendall and Zane as characters, they had emotional baggage to sort through, and it would have been nice to see more of a build-up to their relationship.

Friendly Fire is an emotional, enjoyable, quick and sexy read. I look forward to reading more by Megan Hart.

Sent to a tropical island for a mandatory authorized vacation, Agent Kendall Frasier doesn’t want to be reminded that Zane Vincent’s friendly fire killed her partner. Zane Vincent’s actions that night haunt him, but he knows he did everything right, so why does it hurt so much? The two are drawn to each other, but at the same time their past keep them from enjoying each other.

Both Kendall and Zane brought heavy guilt luggage to the island. Neither can accept that the agent who died, died from his own recklessness. Neither blame each other, but they both felt deep guilt over the events. This creates a tension between them that is more than just grief, but some uncomfortable understanding they each don’t want to admit at first.

I loved how Kendall was not afraid to take care of her own passion. There is a pretty awesome moment when she is taking care of business but doesn’t know Zane is there. There is tension, but most of it is put out there by Kendall for cover up on her true feelings about everything. The tension keeps building until there is some explosive scenes that never felt unnatural. It wasn’t a quick and easy falling in love, but it wasn’t a drama riddled romance either.

Mostly I wanted this book to be longer. What happened after the ending? I want to know. But that didn’t lessen my interest in this story, it just means I get to fill in the blanks.

3 1/2 stars...full review to come

My Review:
This book was a super-fast sweet little read. Sent to a tropical island as a recuperative retreat, Zane and Kendall are not exactly on friendly terms. Kendall's partner was just killed in a friendly fire incident during a drug bust. Zane just happened to be the one firing the shot. Everyone agrees that the partner made a wrong move and that is why he died. But both Kendall and Zane are dealing with guilt and blame issues, regardless of what they know in their heads.

This book was an easy-flowing, natural read. The chemistry between Zane and Kendall is undeniable. There are some great, hot scenes between the 2- one esp. hot one taking place with a wall between them. You'll just have to read the book, but the scene left me smiling. Super sexy while still remaining really sweet.

My only complaint was that the book wasn't long enough. I would have liked to have a bit more meat to the story line. What was included was very sweet, well-written, and entertaining. I just wanted more.

This is the first Megan Hart book that I have read. It was really very enjoyable. I need to see what else she has written and definitely check out some of her other books.

This story is definitely on the short side but what it lacks in length it makes up for in sexiness. Oh, ha! I made a length reference. In a review for a smutty book. Excuse me while I go giggle like a 12-year-old for a minute.

Okay. I'm back. Now, while I don't normally care for contemporary romances, this one was fun. Kendall was full of guilt over her partner's death- although not necessarily for the normal reasons- and Zane has to deal with the fact that his bullet was the one that ended Kendall's partner's life. She's wound up in her anger and blame and takes it out on poor Zane. He wants to put the incident behind him and have the chance to explore the attraction that flares between the two of them.

Zane and Kendall are combustible, as shown by one very HOT mutual masturbation scene (and let me tell you, the hotness shines through despite the characters being in separate rooms while self-pleasuring), and their inevitable relationship doesn't feel forced. They're drawn to one another and once they're in each other's orbit they can't break free.

Sexy and real, Friendly Fire moves quickly and keeps the bedroom shenanigans coming. And that's pretty awesome.

Ugh! I expected something...different... If you are a Megan Hart fan, you have got to get out of the mind frame of book like: Dirty, Tempted and Naked. I thought it a bit too short to really get into the characters...too short to relate to them...

I thought it interesting that we didn't get much insight into Zane's mind. It was a very one sided story and not all that steamy.

A short story now being re-released by Carina Press that involves two DEA agents who have been involved in the death of one of their own. One, Kendall was the agent's partner and Vincent was the undercover agent that accidentally shot him. Now they are being given "vacation" by the DEA for the purpose of psychological re-evaluation and some R & R to help deal with the aftermath of the accident. Both feel guilty but with the therapist's help and some close proximity to one another, gorgeous beaches, gentle trade winds, and a long sexual dry spell, they find comfort with each other. It is a very well-written short story--I always wish these stories were expanded and we could experience more of the characters' lives than just this one small portion of their experience. But I always enjoy Hart's writing and thought this was a quick but very good read.
