Really enjoyed this perspective of Dietrich’s life and learning about the journey and struggle of so many people in WWII times. There were a lot of characters that were some times tough to keep up with...but this was probably a testament to how many people he influenced, and also how hard it was to tell his story without including so many people. It also jumped between scenes and conversations in a sometimes tricky style... I’m not a fast reader, so this was even more a battle, but I really really wanted to keep reading.
However, the biblical and Christian implications are incredible. His sermons, presumed conversations, actions to travel and urge people in the faith in a time of dire circumstances was a faith builder to me. I think the way Mary pieced these elements together with all the help and research that went into this was remarkable.

Very readable historical novel portraying last 10 years of Bonhoeffer's life. Clearly spells out conflicts in his thinking about assassination attempts on Hitler as well as his strength/peace as he faced his own death at hands of SS.

Wanted to like this book, just because Bonhoeffer is so amazing, but it is just not very well written.

An amazing story of bravery and self-discovery. This is an important side of WWII that you never really hear about it. The amount of research and time that went into this book is incredible.

Incredible man. I read this after reading one of Bonhoeffer's prayers because I wanted to find out more about this man I had not heard about who stood up against Hitler for his faith.

Honestly, I did not get it. No, not the story. But the book itself. Because I did not know the historical figure. The little bit I did understand, convinced me I would have liked it if I would have been aware about the historical person. But I am not. So, here it is.
