This book was very dense and detailed on all aspects of the Celts. It goes from the origins of the Celtic tribes to current events. The one major thing that bothered me was all the spelling and grammar mistakes littered throughout the book. Just one of my pet peeves when editors and authors miss that kind of stuff.

This book contains a lot of good & interesting information. However, it transitions poorly from one subject to another. Also, while the maps are good, often a place mentioned in the narrative will not appear on the map, and, rivers are spoken of often, but rarely labeled on the maps.

I can't say I expected this historical atlas to cover so much information from the Iron Age to 2008 (the book was released in 2009), but all things considered it does a pretty impressive job of it. The maps, photos, drawings, and charts are all great.

Pre supposes more knowledge than i had. Would benefit from more pictures and less drawings. That said, i am interested in the one on Russia in this series.

I feel like there was more to this book than I could grasp the first time reading it. Everything within the words- the hidden messages and the scrupulous tendencies would be better understood once read a few times over and analyzed thoroughly. This is the only reason I rated it 3 out of 5 stars. Once I read it again, I believe I would understand it much better This is definitely not the sort of book for casual fiction. It is one that must be harnessed and worked at to understand- though in doing so, the benefits gained would be quite intriguing.

Okay, I didn't read all of it page by page. This is more of a reference book for me. I have been reading a lot about Celtic myth and history mixed in with Celtic novels for five or six years now. I read that the word Celtic came from the word kilt because that is what they wore. Also the root for Gaels, a Celtic people, shows up in a lot of stuff: Gallic, Galway, Galatia, cisapline Gaul, etc. I wonder if the Sea of Galilee's name is also from that stem.

If I trace my family lines back far enough... most of my ancestors were Celts. Hence by interest in learning about them. And this book does give a nice overview of the times and places that Celts lived. It's a little on the dry, academic side IMO but the pictures and maps are great and I guess I shouldn't expect much more from an Atlas. If nothing else, it makes an excellent reference book.

It took me forever to read this book. It's dense and difficult to read, particularly if you don't know European and/or British geography very well. It is pretty interesting and gives a complete historical overview of the Celtic people and their various migrations across the world.
