Eight calls...

From an unfamiliar number...

For rape survivor and "infidelity photographer", Terri Welker, the question is far greater than should she answer. The question is: What should she do now that she has been found? Run again? Or stay and fight for the new life she has created photographing cheating spouses for James Boston Investigations?

The breathtaking continuation of the Excuse Me, Miss Series

Praise for EXCUSE ME MISS:

The unusual premise, great characters, and intriguing plot made this a fun, highly enjoyable read. I really can't wait to find out what happens next.

Interesting story

This story bounced around a lot in my opinion. It brought character from book one yet focused on different character. The similarities between main characters in both book brought it together.

Review of Modesty (Romantic Suspense) Modesty (Romantic Suspense) (EMM Series) by Phillip Thomas Duck by Phillip Thomas Duck

Every so often, a reviewer will run into a book that is hard to review, Modesty (Romantic Suspense) is one of them.

I give this book a 3.5 – Liked it, but wanted a little more clarity in certain areas of the book.

Modesty (Romantic Suspense) is a strong and emotional story of a rape survivor, “fidelity anthropologist,” and a sexy decoy. Terri Welker, a person who struggles to overcome many obstacles in her life, including her painful past and her current emotional present.

Goodreads Description:

Eight calls...

Review:

Modesty is an emotional rollercoaster of a woman who has been hurt and who continues to hurt in so many ways. Modesty does a great job to pull you right into the story and connect with the main character. However, the end of the book closed with many questions left unanswered.

Character Development:

Modesty (Romantic Suspense) is full of main characters that are full of personality and characteristics. Each one is unique in his /her way. However, some of the minor characters are not. Questions like, “Why would he/she do that in this part of the story?” was often asked. That usually happens when the reader does not know that character well enough, making it hard to predict his or her course of action during a conflict.

Prediction is not always a good thing in books; However, in some cases “reader predictions” help the reader get a feel that he or she understand the character well.

Modesty (Romantic Suspense) is also not overloaded with so many characters that it makes it hard to read. This helped the book flow tremendously. The reader will be able to grow and move along with the main character, a big plus.

Plot:

Modesty (Romantic Suspense) has a very well thought out plot. The book will pull you in right from the start. It will leave you wanting to know more after each chapter. However, the more I read the more questions I had. Sharing my questions here would cause me to add spoilers to this review, so I will not do that. By the last chapter, I noticed that my questions would never be answered. That is not always a bad thing. It is all part of the art of writing.

The protagonist faced some conflict but mostly the conflicts were out of her control. I would have like to see more conflicts and solutions brought on by the main character.

Setting:

The setting of the book revolves around the life of the protagonist Terri. The author did a great job setting up the scenes to revolve around a painful upbringing and painful circumstances that haunt Terri each day. The settings are full of emotion, not an easy task for any author; however, the author does a great job in Modest.

Book Blow:

Great Book Flow! Fast paced. Well balanced.
Definitely great for a light weekend read.

In a word, different is how I would describe "Modesty." The characters– Terri Welker, the protagonist, along with the supporting cast– are different from the typical. The premise of the story is different from the norm. They say there are only so many different stories, and I’m sure this fits the pattern of one of them, but the unique spin Duck puts on the story ingredients make it feel new. Okay, different. And different is good.

Because of these differences, it seemed like the suspense aspect of the book had me on edge more. It felt less predictable. I wasn’t sure what direction the story was going to go. I had no idea what the resolution might be. In many ways, "Modesty" resembles a psychological thriller as much as romantic suspense. Whatever you call it, "Modesty" should keep you turning pages and guessing at how it will all end.

I don't know why it took me so long to read this book when I got it almost immediately after reading the first one, Excuse Me Miss. I'm glad I finally got around to it.

Once again, I was hooked right away. I have to say what Terri endured over the course of her life, including losing the love of her life because of her rape--saddened me. But I was also amazed by her strength to endure, and by the choice she made after what happened to her (you'll have to read it to find out).

Duck has a way of revealing pieces of the characters' personalities and lives, slowly, peeling back the layers until you get the whole picture. It worked, because it kept me reading to find out everything I could about Terri and what would become of her.

The second book in Phillip Thomas Duck's Excuse Me, Miss series follows Terri Welker who photographs philandering men in the act for James Boston Investigations. One day she finds out that the man who raped her several years ago is dead and the life and the man she left behind on that terrible day have come back to haunt her.

Mr. Duck's continues his interesting short fiction series in the world of infidelity and suspense. Another strong, but vulnerable woman with past secrets.

Thank you to Mr. Duck for giving me the opportunity to review his book.

Good story, not always appealing style

Andrew commits suicide. Beforehand he desperately tries to reach Teresa, a single mother with a four year old son. Teresa works as a photographer who catches men in the act of infidelity. She works for a lawyer who gathers evidence for divorce cases. Teresa who wants to forget her past, has reinvented herself, and is now Terri. The mystery is what is Teresa's relationship to Andrew . The story raps itself around this issue. The story kept my interest, but the writing style did not always appeal.
