Popular American comedian acted George Burns, originally Nathan Birnbaum from 1922 teamed with Gracie Allen, his wife, to 1958; after her death, he in dramatic roles won an Academy Award for The Sunshine Boys (1975).

Career of this writer spanned vaudeville, film, radio, and television. His familiar arched eyebrow and cigar smoke punctuation lasted for more than three quarters of a century. He enjoyed a career resurrection that began in the 1975 and continued through his death.

At rewriting the same basic autobiography with fresh jokes and anecdotes every time, George Burns excelled. His jokes aren't always p.c. by current standards but they always have kindly intentions. He was among the first to observe that, if someone gets hurt, it's not really funny. Here be Jewish jokes (Burns was Jewish) and Irish jokes (his Partner For Life, Gracie Allen, was Irish) and lots and lots of friendly anecdotes about other twentieth century entertainers.

This is the third book written by George Burns, hence the title Third time Around. Another very witty book by Mr. Burns.

Honestly, Burns said it all in his first book but the incentives to write more were so enticing that he kept churning them out. This is basically a two star book with stories of diminishing interest, but he fills it with jokes and his voice is so charming that even such thin material casts a spell, so three.

George Burns is funny and irreverent. Sometimes he lies, but he always tells you when he is fibbing. I particularly liked the stories about his family. A really delightful read that will keep you smiling from one page to the next. They don't make 'em like that anymore! Too bad! The world could use a few more George Burnses!
