This book was pretty good. One tip I thought was really useful was the "decide to be calm" tip. He used the example of "my child just spilled grape juice on the white carpet" example. If you immediately calm yourself when enraging things happen, then you can learn to control yourself in all situations. He suggested turning events such as this into a game.

This is immediately relevant to my life. For example, yesterday I had to play a game called, "my child defecated in the bathtub, picked it up, and threw it on my laptop computer." Definitely a game that I could never have imagined before having children.

Whole book could be summarized in two sentences, exercise your ability to choose to be better, and believe in god.

This whole book is about being proactive and how you and only you are responsible for your life and feelings.

Newman includes lots of check lists and plans to help develop the proactive mindset.

I think this is a great book, especially the way it is formatted. Most chapters begin with the words "Choose..." and emphasize the individual's ability to control stress by choosing how to approach each day and each situation. Many of us approach pressure situations with preconceived notions or a feeling of being out of control or full of stress in advance. This book reminds us that we can affect and control outcomes simply by deciding not to engage. It breaks down the many factors that contribute to our stress and reminds us what we can do to bring our best selves to any situation and to each new day.
I noticed someone said in a review that these are common sense. However, people who are stressed and under pressure need to be reminded and "brought back to earth", to get grounded and focused in order to effectively handle stress. This book does that.
Someone mentioned this book is about God- I think that is a gross misrepresentation and simply not true. There is one chapter referencing a higher power, I don't recall any overt shilling of religion.
What else, I think the chapter organization enables the reader to jump around in the book in order to find the most applicable help so that one can focus on personal areas in need of improvement. Overall a valuable tool!
