The double volume Image, Narrative, History explores the possibility of a witness witnessing her own death. While questioning this possibility, philosopher Marc Nichanian proposes a phenomenology of a witness wherein the witness, deprived of subjectivity, is nothing else but her own image. This first volume, entitled A Philosophical Friendship, discusses the work of photographer Carole Fékété, as well as writers and philosophers Georges Bataille and Maurice Blanchot, whose work Nichanian considers from the perspective of the relationship between the survivor and the image. By focusing on the relationship between Bataille and Blanchot, Nichanian also shows that in their case the work on the survivor and the image was unfolding in an atmosphere of a “philosophical friendship.” Պատկեր, Պատում, Պատմութիւն երկհատորյակի կիզակետում է վկայի՝ ինքն իր մահը որպես վկա վկայելու հնարավորության հարցը: Փիլիսոփա Մարկ Նշանաենը՝ այս հարցին հետամուտ, առաջարկում է վկայի մի երևութաբանություն՝ առաջադրելով, որ վկան, զուրկ սուբյեկտիվությունից, այլ բան չէ, քան ինքն իր պատկերը: Առաջին՝ Փիլիսոփայական բարեկամութիւն մը հատորը քննարկում է լուսանկարիչ Կարոլ Ֆեկետեի, ինչպես նաև գրող փիլիսոփաներ Ժորժ Բատայի և Մորիս Բլանշոյի ստեղծագործությունը, որը Նշանեանը դիտում է վերապրողի և պատկերի միջև փոխհարաբերության տեսակետից: Կենտրոնանալով այս երկու հեղինակների փոխհարաբերության վրա, Նշանեանը նաև ցույց է տալիս, որ նրանց պարագայում վերապրողի և պատկերի շուրջ աշխատանքը ծավալվում էր «փիլիսոփայական բարեկամության» մի մթնոլորտում:
