most of Wakoski's books are published by Black Sparrow Press who published Bukowski, so you figure your going to read something fun and edgy, but Wakoski dissapoints, I get the impression she takes herself way to seriously, the failed pianist whose finds her true art as a poet. But i found most of the poems were a strain to read, there was one excellcent poem about a guy who records people coughing at concerts, who falls apart, but that was it. same as buying an album with one good song on it.

It’s good, and I will read anything by Wakoski that I can get my hands on, but it’s not nearly as great as her other work. So I’d only recommend it to others who love her work enough to want to read all of it.

Wakoski in her prime, dealing with lose, sorrow, wonder, love and music. Not to be missed for fans of Diane Wakoski or folks interested in some the best, most accessible poetry of recent times.

Motifs of mycology and pianism, simple lines on the face of it, subtly complex images and narratives, content is prescient, feels current. Got much out of rereadings.
