Disappointing
Three strikes, and... Grey is officially off my one-click list. There was a time when Grey was one of my favorite rom com authors - if not my #1 - so it is REALLY disappointing to acknowledge how bland and generic this was. This 3-star rating leans more towards a 2 than a 4, and that's mostly because I was genuinely bored while reading. The interactions between this couple were just so surface-level, and their relationship development felt VERY rushed. Romance novels have been getting longer and longer recently, so it was actually refreshing to start a light and quick rom com like this one, but it felt like the plot meandered so much that the focus was not on the romance. It also wasn't that light or playful, to be honest. (MINOR SPOILER) Not only does our heroine get cheated on by her ex, but she also gets harassed/assaulted by someone - both on the page. So it really didn't deliver any of the things that I was hoping for, which is a major disappointment.
The story follows Chloe, a woman whose life is turned upside down when she discovers that her boyfriend - who is also her boss - is cheating on her. In need of a new place to stay AND a break from her career, Chloe takes a housesitting job for a former baseball player. Luke doesn't seem to be too excited about having Chloe come live in his home, but he's a sweetheart with his young daughter. And as Chloe's role in the household changes, she soon finds herself falling for both Luke and his daughter. But Chloe just got out of a relationship with another older man who was also her boss, and that causes both of them to hesitate about taking things further. As Chloe and Luke navigate the complexities of resisting their attraction, things become complicated.
So why didn't I DNF this one, if it was clearly boring me early on? Well, it's short, so there's that. But I also wanted to give Grey the benefit of the doubt - there was nothing truly WRONG with the story, there just wasn't a whole lot that was compelling about it either. I kept thinking that the slow burn would pick up speed at some point, and the chemistry would become apparent. That simply wasn't the case for me. I never became emotionally invested in the relationship, and the slow burn was so slow that it felt incredibly underdeveloped by the end. I always know it's a bad sign when I don't save quotes while reading, and I saved exactly ZERO quotes from this one. So it was not terrible, but definitely underwhelming. It feels like it's finally time to admit that Grey is no longer a good fit for me, and leave it at that.

This novel was an absolute delight—fun, charming, and brimming with romance. Beyond the swoon-worthy love story, the entire cast of characters stole my heart.
The humor in this book is top-notch, and the characters are genuinely lovable. Chloe, a talented chef working at a restaurant owned by her older boyfriend, finds herself in an uproarious and chaotic breakup that leads her to quit both the relationship and her job. On the hunt for a fresh start, she lands a new gig with Luke, a famous baseball player navigating life as a single dad after the passing of Harper’s mom. Chloe soon joins Luke and his adorable daughter Harper for a getaway in the Hamptons, and sparks fly between them. However, they both hesitate to act on their growing attraction for Harper's sake, though resisting their chemistry proves nearly impossible. The fiery connection between these two will have you racing through the pages. And little Harper? She’s so irresistibly cute and adds countless laugh-out-loud moments to the story, making this book a must-read. Trust me, you won’t regret picking it up!

I need to know what RS Grey eats and drinks every day because her books keep improving, and I will continue to say it since she blows me away every damn time.
I'm so in love with Chloe and Luke; oh my god. Little Harper, though, is the true queen of this story😉 A famous baseball player who is single and has an adorable young daughter decides to spend the summer in the Hamptons together. They don't expect an unexpected visitor to be with them the whole summer. Chloe was initially hired to take care of things around the house, but thanks to her passion for cooking and her culinary degree, she became their chef.
Naturally, boundaries must be established when young Harper mistakenly believes she is the nanny considering she was promised no nannies to be on this summer vacation. A bond steadily forms between Harper and Chloe once she discovers Chloe isn't who she thinks she is. Since she is the chef and produces excellent meals that Harper, a picky eater, will eat, she quickly gains the favor of everyone. (Even Ned!) Even while some individuals, aka Luke, attempt to suppress the strong developing emotions.
Given the age gap and the fact that Chloe recently ended her relationship with her older boyfriend, who also happened to be her boss, Luke attempts to avoid anything that could lead to the two of them going down that same road. But, it's challenging to ignore the woman you think about every day and see almost every day, considering they all live in the same house. No matter how fond everyone gets, it makes sense that Luke gets concerned about his daughter and Chloe becoming so close in case something bad happens.
As time pass by, Harper calls out her father by telling him he has a crush on Chloe. He now has no choice but to admit it. Mainly because Chloe wasn't with Luke and Harper when they traveled to visit his family for a week, yet this also offered him an opportunity to discuss her with his family and decide what to do with his feelings. So, it makes sense that Chloe and Luke's relationship would develop immediately after returning to the Hamptons.
Let's say everything works out perfectly, and Harper is thrilled. We love happy endings and you need to read this book asap!🫶🏻

Talented pastry chef loses her job after finding her boyfriend/boss cheating on her. She takes a job as the personal chef to big time baseball player, they make eyes at each other for 80% of the book, then finally give in and the last 20% is a rushed romance and the talented chef becomes the live in nanny/fiancee of the big time baseball player...in summary.
That last bit really rubbed me the wrong way to be honest, especially when the author took great pains to tell us over and over that he wasn't just moving their relationship timeline at a breakneck speed (he asks her to move in with him 2 weeks after they make it official) so he could return to baseball and have someone to take care of his daughter yet that appears to be exactly what happens according to the epilogue. What happened to her business idea? A year passes and all she seems to do is look after his daughter and follow him to baseball games. I don't see why there couldn't have been mention of her at least getting some of it started or doing something for her career. It bugs me when women give up careers for men.
Overall this is a no angst, no drama, very light book and I think when there is absolutely no conflict or anything you kind of get a bit bored? It was also very slow burn which is so my jam, I love slow burn so much but when a very short book I think barely 300 pages has nothing much in terms of romance until 80% and then spends the last 20% telling us instead of showing us the progression of them as a couple it just felt like a bit of a let down. So much attention was given to what she cooked them for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday but the build up to them getting together was basically that they thought each other to be really good looking and that was pretty much it for tension.
I didn't dislike the book, in fact I finished it in almost 1 sitting but without this review to look back on I'll probably forget all about this book in a few weeks. I didn't hate the main characters but I didn't love them either. I didn't feel like I really knew all that much about the H so he was just kind of...nice and very big and tall and attractive. That's about it 🤷

Three Strikes and You’re Mine is a lighthearted and sassy rom-com that had me smiling nonstop.
MLB player Luke Allen has retired from the NY Pinstripes to take care of his 6YO daughter. Although he loves the game, she comes first.
After finding her boss and boyfriend doing unsanitary things with one of their co-workers in the kitchen the work at, pastry chef Chloe Ricci leaves her job, and her apartment and now her ex behind.
Her big Italian family doesn’t let her be sad and jobless for long. They hook her up as a caretaker for an estate in Bridgehampton where she bumps into an unknowing Luke on their first night there.
Although Luke and his daughter Heather don’t need someone to take care of their summer home now that they’re there, Chloe convinces them they can’t live without her with her to die for cooking, but the attraction between Chloe and her older boss in undeniable.
I really liked Chloe’s inner musings and monologues. Her character felt fresh and bright. Three Strikes and You’re Mine was a cute palette cleanser between angsty reads.

I have now read 4 books by RS Grey and I always love them. This one was so funny. I loved these characters. Chloe is a chef and works at a restaurant that her older boyfriend owns. Well after a messy (and pretty funny) break-up situation, she leaves him and quits her job. Now she needs to find a new job. She ends up getting a job working for Luke, a famous baseball player. He's a single dad after his daughter Harpers mom passed away. Chloe ends up going on a getaway to the Hamptons with them. They are both attracted to each other but don't want to cross that line because of Harper. But sometimes that's a hard thing to control. The attraction and chemistry between these characters will have you flipping the pages. I loved that adorable Harper too. So many funny moments in this one. Definitely pick this up friends, you will not be sorry!

You know you love an author when you pick up their book fully knowing and acknowledging that it has a trope you typically don't prefer to read about. Even with that trope, I couldn't resist reading this book because R.S. Grey could write about paint drying and I would still love the book (and ask for more).
Unsurprisingly, this novel was fun, charming, and a romantic read. Aside from the obvious of loving the romance, I loved the overall cast of characters too. They all made for a perfect cast from the main characters to Chloe's extensive family that reminded me of something from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" (but Italian).
This book was easily read (and devoured) in one sitting. I couldn't help it! I also loved the intrigue of the epilogue and I can't wait to read what comes next.

R.S. Grey continues to be the author whose books I look for whenever I'm in the mood for something sweet and light to read.
Her most recent releases haven't really been what I expected them to be (I can't help but compare them to my favs of hers) but with this one it feels a little bit like she is starting to get back on track again!
I liked the main characters, Chloe and Luke, and I adored Luke's daughter Harper! I loved how all their relationships developed and the progress of the story.

To be honest I expected a little more from this… I mean it’s not a slow burn in the traditional sense because the falling in love happens so fast I couldn’t buy it. But it took a long time in the book for them to be together.
Obviously the single parent trope works because Harper is adorable. It was refreshing to know her mom was not a bitch (it’s not like all exes need to be). Going in I had no idea Tate is going to get a book of her own and that’s exciting!!
Overall it was an entertaining read but don’t go in expecting a Mariana Zapata level and you’ll enjoy the book

I like a low drama book but not a no drama, nothing happens, single dad, six year old daughter on every page, book.
This book is just fine. Chloe is fine. The hero whose name I’ve already forgotten is fine. Fine fine fine. But it was just too fine for my taste. I’m personally not interested in a romance that predominantly featured children and perfect happy life with millions of dollars in the Hamptons.
Idk. Just bored with this one.

Rachel promised that this book would be a light, funny (and possibly her funniest) rom com she's written - and yeah that completely tracks. I absolutely flew through this book and I enjoyed every second of it. Chloe and Luke were adorable and I loved their back and forth banter. And their romance! It was too perfect, and all the tension that kept building and building had me flying through the book that much quicker. Rachel promised that this book would be a light, funny (and possibly her funniest) rom com she's written - and yeah that completely tracks. I absolutely flew through this book and I enjoyed every second of it. Chloe and Luke were adorable and I loved their back and forth banter. And their romance! It was too perfect, and all the tension that kept building and building had me flying through the book that much quicker. really quick read and anything single dad usually has me hooked but this one was just okay, plus their relationship went from like nothing to a hundred in half a second which isn’t my thing, i like it to be more fleshed out than it was, but overall it was fine.

I just finished Three Strikes and I. Have. Goosebumps. It’s been awhile since a book has pulled me in so quickly that I forget that I’m reading fiction, or characters feel so real that I start to think of them as friends.
Grey managed to weave together another amazing story, seriously I don’t know how she does it time and time again.
Luke, Chloe, and Harper are the bee’s knees. Harper is such a breath of fresh air and the most adorable little kid on the planet and I’m seriously jealous she has such an amazing dad. Chloe falls for them both hard and fast, and really who could blame her?
Another swoon-worthy five star read!

There’s nothing I enjoy more than a sarcastic female lead. Chloe is finding her way in life after jarring events that force her to take a god hard look at her current path. Luke is the quintessential single dad. One whose life is wrapped around a little adorable girl. How he parents and advocates for his daughter were some of my favorite scenes in this book. Let’s face it, Harper stole every scene she was in and was the heart of this book.
Yes, this book is a bit cliched and yes there’s a huge part of the story that is completely fantasy, but that’s the beauty of this book. It’s the kind of book you get lost in because each character, even down to the ones mentioned just once, are endearing. It’s the kind of book where you root for the “good guy” to come out on top, where the romance is sweet and spicy, and there are laugh out loud one-liners. It’s the kind of book you read because there’s not over dramatic drama, but instead there’s sweetness and you know there’s a HEA.

Three Strikes and You're Mine is perfect. Every time I open one of R.S. Grey's books, I become so consumed with the characters and the story that I am basically incapable of doing normal adult tasks (like eating, chores, errands, etc) until I finish the book. I always tell myself to slow down and savor the book, but then I end up binging the shit out of every single one, usually in a few hours. This is exactly what happened with Three Strikes and You're Mine and I have zero regrets. It's tropes are: forced proximity, age gap, single dad, hired help, and is a sports romance (kinda). It's also a dual POV and that was gold.
Chloe and Luke are so well developed and they have so so so SO much chemistry. And then, you add in Harper, the adorable almost-seven year old, and it is A+ dialogue. I loved Chloe and Harper's dynamic and how easily their relationship developed. Luke is so swoon worthy so that doesn't hurt either. Grey brilliantly utilizes witty banter and situational humor so there were several instances where I had to stop reading and laugh to myself—out loud, like a weirdo.
This book is a bit of a slow burn and there is plenty of mutual pining, so when Chloe and Luke finally (!) get together, it was so very satisfying. I often feel like mutual pining is a tricky balance to execute without being redundant, but this book's pacing and timeline really worked well and helped prevent it from being annoying.
I have zero complaints about this book, except maybe that it wasn't long enough and I just want more content of Chloe, Luke and Harper. It is absolutely a perfect, 5-star read for me and has worked its way into the top 5 of my favorite books of hers. R.S. Grey is an insta-buy author of mine and this book is the perfect example of why. She has a ton of books in her backlog so if you need a reason to really take a dive deep, all of her books are on kindle unlimited...

This book was everything! It had so many funny moments that actually made me chuckle. Chloe and Luke just had the best banter.
Chloe is an amazing chef. All those food descriptions made me hungry and I loved how close she was to her huge Italian family. Luke is a single dad to the cutest daughter, Harper. Luke is a professional athlete (baseball player) and stepped away to raise Harper and not miss out on her life.
Chloe and Luke together.. ugh. Loved them! It was a bit of a slow burn romance since they don’t even kiss until the 57% mark. But that tension of fighting the pull between them was fire. But they had so many cute and funny moments together. I couldn’t get enough of Chloe, Luke and Harper! 💕
Rachel knocked it out of the park with this book and I’m so excited to see that we will get Tate’s (Luke’s sister) book this summer!! ❤️

Grey does it again! Such a delightful, low-angst read. I absolutely adore Luke & Chloe (and also Harper of course <3) and seeing them come together (despite both knowing it probably wasn't the most appropriate choice) was so sweet to read. It's so nice to see a heroine who actually has hobbies besides reading and falling for Her Man and the way Chloe's love for cooking was described felt so real. Gotta say, my highlight was probably Harper though — I've got nieces who are around her age and while there are often child characters in romances, they're rarely as well done as by Grey (who also has two small girls and I could really feel that love peeking through). The combination of still being a little girl who needs comfort and safety but also wants to go explore and make her own place in the world — little girls just always have my heart.

Hallmark with sex, so....basically a Netflix rom-com. Even comes with the cute kid.
This isn't deep, the background for the FMC is stereotypical, but the chemistry is good, the Firsts are sweet, they do address the power imbalance in him being her employer - though ngl that's pure smutnip to me, so I don't mind if the lines are smudged, that is the fun for me. Her family is so sterotypically Italian, and if you're not into food descriptions in your romances, this may not be the book for you (she's a pastry chef, and her scenes feature her cooking for the MMC and his daughter). Anyway, it was a leisurely read and I was in the right mood for it, so I enjoyed myself.

As always, I was super excited to get my hands on another book by this author. Her books are funny and always a super quick read.
This book follows characters Chloe and Luke. Chloe is a chef who is down on her luck, but a job opportunity presents itself that’s too good to pass up. Luke is struggling leaving baseball behind and is a single parent to his six year old daughter.
I really liked the concept of this book. I liked how the story flowed and you didn’t feel like the relationship between the characters were rushed.
I do wish we got more spice (but that’s just me lol) and I wish the ending was a bit more extended. I feel like we got the characters together and then the ending was right there. I wanted more time with the couple.
Overall, this was a quick, cute read and I really enjoyed it!

I’ve read almost every RS Grey book and this one was a huge let down. The story is very vanilla and been there/some that. It’s not bringing anything new to the literary world. I found Chloe to be super annoying and her internal monologues drove me crazy. I’m not a huge fan of the single parent trope either - it can be done well, but just wasn’t here.
I think the worst part for me is that the slow burn was just boring af and took too long to get together and then the book ends so quickly. The epilogue is setting up Luke’s sister’s story for summer 2023.
If you’re wanting to read this book, I’d skip it and pick one of her better ones.

Chaque roman de R.S. Grey est pour moi un rendez-vous incontournable ! Si vous affectionnez les comédies un brin romantiques et rigolotes, avec des personnages attachants et zéro drama superflu à l'horizon, alors vous avez tiré le bon numéro.
Dans Trois échecs et une victoire (parution 2025 en VF), l'héroïne (Chloe) vient de surprendre son petit copain en pleine infidélité. Une découverte qui la laisse indifférente sur le plan émotionnel, mais qui la secoue pour tout plaquer et trouver une autre direction pour sa carrière. Elle est chef pâtissière et avait craqué pour son patron. Elle retourne donc chez ses parents - une grande famille italienne généreuse et bruyante - puis accepte un job d'été dans les Hamptons. C'est là qu'elle fait la rencontre de son nouveau patron - un joueur de base-ball (Luke) qui a décidé de prendre sa retraite pour se consacrer à l'éducation de sa petite fille de six ans (Harper).
/// Encore un papa célibataire ! Ouiiii. C'est un thème récurrent eu égard de mes dernières lectures, ahem. J'adore, oui. ///
La cohabitation entre ces trois-là s'annonce néanmoins gênante parce qu'il n'était pas convenu qu'ils soient ensemble pendant cette période. Luke ne réussit pas à congédier la jeune femme, mais il lui demande de se faire très discrète pour ne pas interagir avec son enfant ou s'immiscer dans leurs plans de vacances. C'est ce qui nous donne une tonalité un peu particulière pendant les 3/4 de l'histoire car chacun ne fait que s'effleurer, s'excuser ou s'agacer. C'est spécial, un peu lent et routinier. Pas très excitant, quoi.
Toutefois, l'ambiance est TOP. C'est estival, chaleureux, bienveillant, doux et apaisant. Et puis c'est drôle et bourré de charme. Enfin moi je manque totalement d'objectivité dès que je plonge le nez dans les livres de R.S. Grey. Cela devient diablement plus croustillant quand les barrières tombent peu à peu et que l'aspect professionnel devient enfin plus souple.

Omg the opening scene. Right away I knew this book would be laugh out loud funny.
Chloe finds herself in a dumpster fire of a mess. Her career - gone. Her love life - destroyed. Her outlook for the future - bleak. Enter in her uncle with an opportunity to keep her working for the summer as the caretaker of a house in the Hamptons while the owner’s away. Honestly this could be the perfect reset. What could go wrong?
Well it just so happens the owner and his adorable daughter are unexpectedly coming for the summer and not only is the owner a super hot semi retired baseball player but her adorable 6 year old daughter is a delight to be around. Will Chloe be able to maintain boundaries ?
This was such a feel good romance. The relationship building felt genuine. I enjoyed reading how Chloe cared for the MMC’s daughter as well.

I'm so happy writing this review because throughout the whole book all I kept thinking was "R.S. Grey is back!!!!".
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed some stuff about her two previous releases (My Professor and Forbidden French), but they just didn't have the R.S. Grey vibe that I love so much. They didn't have that funny banter that only Grey can do, that lightness... With those two it felt like she was trying to do something a bit more dark and heavy.
WHICH IS NOT THE CASE AT ALL WITH THREE STRIKES AND YOU'RE MINE!!!! This one is a classic R.S. Grey book, 100%. It has everything that I love: funny heroine, charming hero and the sweetest and most adorable kid.
I really liked Chloe, she was so funny and kind, she had a graceful strength. Luke was just 100% swoon-worthy, he was SO charming and the way he took care of his daughter was the cutest thing ever.
Harper, Luke's daughter, really is the sweetest and I loved reading how she and Chloe became friends, they had this instant connection that just felt right. The scene where she talks to Chloe about the things they will do truly made me cry.
The secondary character were also great, Chloe's family was hilarious and Tate (Luke's sister) was awesome and I just can't wait to see more of her (*wink*).
