This book covers over 1,000 years of abortion history in England and America, with special emphasis on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It presents an accurate, unbiased account of the history of abortion in order to provide a thoroughly fresh look at that history, reaching several unorthodox conclusions without taking sides on the merits of the abortion debate.

In Roe v. Wade, Justice Harry Blackmun structured the argument of the majority around the history of abortion laws. That history built on the work of law professor Cyril Means, Jr., and historian James Mohr. Means and Mohr proclaim four theses as summarizing the "true" history of abortion in England and America:

Lots of useful information, but interpreted from a position of opposition to legal abortion to the extent that it is difficult to know how much credence to give to the analysis. I would advise against making this the only book you read on the history of abortion law.
