Jack survived the battle with the Takers in Book One of the Apocalypse in Eden series. Now, he and his motley crew of companions are headed back to Eden, Texas, seeking the whereabouts of Jack's father. Along the way they encounter other survivors; some friendly, some decidedly unfriendly. And they find more Takers. Lots more Takers. But nothing can prepare them for what they find when they follow instructions to go to Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado. It will be a miracle if anyone survives this time.
Most of the crew survived the apocalypse, but what now? All they have left is faith, hope, and each other. Will that be enough?

TAKERS: Apocalypse in Eden Book 1
TAKERS was just re-released in hardcover. It's the story of a boy, Jack, and a deaf pit-bull named Snake who have to battle the cannibalistic Takers after the monsters are spat out into the town of Eden, Texas from a parallel universe called Purgatory.
A former emergency services dispatcher, rock-n-roll radio station secretary, hospital information operator, and grade school teacher, Ann Swann has been many things. Through it all were the words. She's been a writer since her teenage years and began winning fiction awards in college. As a child she grew up much like Stevie-girl in small town Texas. One difference? Ann never got up the nerve to enter the haunted house alone. She waited until she married her husband, Dude, then they went in together. Ann would love to hear your thoughts on her stories. Feel free to message her at any of
I was gifted this book and though it's been a while since I read book one, I was soon familiar with the characters and what had happened.
Since the 'rip' that caused mayhem and numerous deaths, Jack and his crew continue searching for his dad - is he dead or lost or taken? But what of the message he left? They meet others on the journey, both good and bad, some surprising, some not. There is a constant feeling of threat and tension amongst thoughts and feelings - very well done.
The story is told in the first-person narrative, which allowed further depth and development. The writing creates a great sense of place and while there are some gruesome details, nothing is done without reason.
I like Jack and his innate goodness, and though I am not a believer, I can see that this part of his character fits well into the story. There was plenty of mystery and unanswered questions, but those that were answered...yikes!
Overall, I did enjoy book two of this series, being engaged from beginning to end.
Jack continues looking for his dad after an alien assault hits Eden, and finds like-minded people. Meanwhile, Jack learns that his value to others includes taking a dog since the dog's owner.
