In May 1738, John Wesley unwilling attended a meeting where someone was reading Luther's Preface to the Epistle to the Romans. Wesley wrote in his journal, "I felt I did trust in Christ,Christ alone, for my salvation; and an assurance was given me that he had taken my sin away, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death. " This event, more than any other, launched the evangelical revival of the eighteenth century.
John Calvin, he great Swiss reformed and theologian said of this epistle, "When anyone understands the Epistle, he has passage opened to him to the understanding of the whole Scriptures." There's some good stuff here. This is not an in-depth doctrinal study of Romans, but more easy to read through. I am a bit surprised that I see no more attempts by Mr. Kroll to write any more commentaries. This is good for a new Christian -- easy to understand yet doing a good job of covering necessary doctrine.
