Explores the world of sharks, including historical data, current information on shark research and sightings, and descriptions of the behavior and physical characteristics of twenty major types
In 1957, Melvin Berger married Gilda Shulman (now Gilda Berger), also a noted author of children's nonfiction. The two have collaborated on many books, including the ongoing Scholastic Question-and-Answer series. Writing has enabled Berger to answer many of their own questions, as well; they enjoy research and finds that working on one book almost inevitably raises enough issues to lead to another. The Bergers have two daughters and live near the beach in East Hampton, New York.
5/5 2017 Informational 4th-6th grade I enjoyed this book because it’s all information in relation to sharks and it’s a book that categorizes the alphabet in relation to the shark species! Each page is filled with facts and pictures and I enjoyed it because it drew me in to wanting to read up on sharks and what they are all about. I would include this book in my class room for all those students out their that find ocean animals interesting and those who loves sharks because it gets them reading and interested in a topic! I highly reccomend!!
Same review as "Bears" by Melvin and Gilda Berger. I ordered all these little science books from scholastic, so it is hard to know what you are going to get. I was expecting so much more out of these books. The semantics can make the book confusing and it is so simple, I'm not sure how anyone can really learn from them. I guess they are supposed to be easy to read, but who wants to read such boring books? At least they all have good pictures.
The text layout was not broken down with headings, so everything ran together. However, the book contains some interesting anecdotes. It would be a lot better with better "packaging" of the information.
