Bobby Quinn is shy. In fact, he's so shy, he has trouble making friends. But that changes when he gets a squirmy little puppy for his birthday. Unlike Bobby, Lucy isn't shy at all. And to his surprise, she keeps dragging him into all sorts of adventures—and friendships, too! In this heart warming story of a boy and beagle's friendship, Ilene Cooper begins the series that has charmed young readers and dog lovers alike.
My son is seven and he loves the Lucy series. The first book he read with my help. Now on the second book, he has become an independent reader. These are the perfect level for him (the 2nd month of 2nd grade). They aren't overly challenging which is what keeps him reading and keeps him excited about reading.
If you are a dog lover looking for a chapter book for a boy or girl, look no further! Bobby is painfully shy, and has the nickname "Cry Bobby" at school, poor guy. But then his parents surprise him with a beagle puppy named Lucy for his birthday, and suddenly she starts breaking the ice with other people, and Bobby starts making his first friends. Hooray!
Give a puppy to a boy who's rather shy and watch the magic unfold! Lucy is adorable, and the story is nice and simple to read. Recommended for kids who love dog stories, or who might be a little shy themselves.
I read this book to my Kindercampers (kids going into Kindergarten) and thought it was pretty cute. It's all about facing a fear. In this case, the fear of making friends. From feeling lonely and afraid to feeling confident and happy. Oh, and a dog that changes a boy's entire outlook on life. The kids loved it!
This book is really cute. It's about a shy little boy named Bobby Quinn. He would rather be home by himself than trying to make friends. His mom worries about him and wants him to go outside and play with other kids, but he is too afraid that he will say something studpid and people won't like him. He doesn't even play with his cousins. When his aunt came to visit, he hid under the bed so he wouldn't have to talk to her. On his birthday, his family comes over. His cousins talk to him because it's his birthday. His little cousin follows him around. She tells him he's getting an Eagle for his birthday. It turns out it was a beagle. He names his new dog Lucy. Bobby's favorite word is absolutely. He loves to say it. He loves Lucy, but she is getting him way too much attention. Everyone wants to talk to him about his dog. He starts to meet a few people, like Mr. Davis, their neighbor. One day, Bobby is walking by Mr. Davis' house and Lucy is trying to go to the house. Bobby panicks because he would have to talk to Mr. Davis. Lucy insists and finally Bobby gives in. Does Bobby talk to Mr. Davis, or make any friends? You'll have to read it! This is a great book to read to kids that are shy. It will help them see that other kids are afraid of talking to people too, but Bobby could have some great friends and he realizes that people aren't that scary.
This is a chapter book for an early chapter book reader. It's got repetitive words in it but not so much that makes the story boring. This is a perfect story for the shy little guy in your life. The little boy in the story was super shy and had been ever since he could remember. But when his birthday rolls around his parents give him a puppy and that was the best thing ever for him. The story between him and his puppy and the way he started coming out of his shyness is great.
A really great book that Mackenzie and I read together. A story about a little boy named Bobby who is very shy. He has trouble making friends but this changes when he gets a puppy for his birthday. Lucy brings him out of his shell and we follow their adventures as he makes new friends. Looking forward to reading the next one!
This will be a great book to recommend to some of my students! Bobby is a really shy boy who struggles to make friends. All that changes when he gets a puppy for his birthday. Cute and heartwarming, this is a nice little story!
This was my first chapter book I'd ever owned and read alone. I like it because I love animals and I have always loved parties. It is also funny at a point for younger kids. But I wont spoil it!
The book was when Bobby got Lucy on his birthday. It was funny when his cousin said "You're getting an eagle." Because she didn't understand what her mom said. Her Mom said "Its a beagle."
