Very solid sourcebook for all things Empire. Gives plenty of background detail for each of the regions, and some more general info on the country as a whole. As with many books like this, though, it doesn't feel definitive - instead, you feel like you only get a rough summary of each place without really learning much about it. Some more details here and there - or less hinting at and more close-ups - would probably make it feel more comprehensive.

The included story and plans for the city it takes place in - Bogenhafen - is only ok. It puts a focus on very down-to-earth intrigue, which is uncharacteristic for the setting, and is pretty plain in general. A few new Careers are cool for those who'd like even more variety than the corebook offers.

So far I rate this on the same level as the Old World Bestiary - we'll see how many more of these are as strong.

This is a survey of the Empire, the main setting for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and it's okay. Has some adventure hooks, describes the various places--it's your standard setting book, really.

There are a couple things that stood out for me. One, this had far more typoes and spelling errors than any other WFRP book I've read to date. Not severely damaging, but they definitely jumped out at me as I was reading. The second is that this book takes place after the Storm of Chaos, which does add some plot opportunities but also severely hinders any game taking place anywhere in the northeast of the Empire, since there are huge sections of the Empire described as totally depopulated or ravaged. The authors were working on a directive from Games Workshop that the Storm had to be included, and to their credit they describe the exact population of all the destroyed villages so that it's possible to reconstruct them, but it nonetheless harms the gameability of the supplement.

Finally, and though I admit this is pretty minor, the population figures themselves are pretty suspect for the country that's supposed to be the most powerful in the Old World. Going by Children of the Horned Rat, there are twice as many Skaven as humans in the Empire, which makes me wonder why they haven't tried to conquer it again!

This book does the job, which is adding all the setting information not included in the main WFRP book, but it isn't stand-out in any way.
