This was an okay introduction to the world of Graphic Design for print publications. I feel it would be a good first or second book on the subject. While I am certainly still a beginner on the topic, I've read enough books at this point that this book just seemed to drag through stuff I already know with little to no new material. It introduces topics without developing on them, which would be fine for somebody new to the subject matter. If you're curious about what Graphic Design is, and want an introduction to what a career in Publication Design might consist of, this could be an interesting read. I'd look for it in a library though, because it's not worth keeping on the shelf.
