Good arc but not great.
We learn in this arc that the giants kill the humans probably for food!
We also learn that they have animals from many civilizations in a huge zoo, and it becomes clear that maybe these animals were even the rulers of their civilizations, since they look hatefully at the captors, saying things in a weird language to them, we find that they even have a sample of humans in their zoo.
But a whole volume just for the missing tae and running around, i would rather see tae at home somewhere, and kurono go do more important things to end this conquest.

After a bit of a hiatus, I'm back on this series, and this was a good volume to draw me back in. The writing is better, but more importantly, most of the things that made this series questionable in terms of merit have been improved. The dialog is better, if only marginally so. Now that the humans are being rounded up in large numbers by the aliens, sanitized and stripped, and then butchered, the nudity that is rampant actually fits into the story, rather than being just fan service, or more accurately, and excuse for the artist to draw large breasted naked women. Now it's everyone, male and female, who are naked, and it actually highlights their vulnerability rather than just feeling creepily sexist.
The struggle by the captured humans to escape the slaughterhouse is genuinely tense, as well as Kei's pursuit of Tae, especially the moment where he walks right by the alien girl who is holding Tae silent. the violence is magnificent and glorious rendered, and the creature designs in the alien zoo are imaginative. It does seem weird that so many of the aliens just stand around gaping while the naked humans are running around under their feet, but then I've seen similar behavior in crowds of humans who will just stand around waiting for some else to do something when thrust into unusual circumstances.
This series has taken a turn for the better, and I hope the quality keeps up for these last few volumes.

This is it, the final phase!

Well, I think the giants look inspired from Avatar’s James Cameron. I mean the look was quite similar since Avatar was released on 2009.

Este tomo en particular estuvo un poco aburrido, pero supongo que era necesario para mostrar un poco más de la civilización invasora.

Gantz # 30
This is sci fi at its wildest and fiercest in it ability to number the senses as we watch Kei try to rescue Tae from these alien Titans.

This is a review of the entire series.

Synopsis: Gantz tells the story of a teenager named Kei Kurono, among others, who die but find themselves brought back in perfectly healthy bodies and forced to participate in a "game" where they must hunt down and kill aliens.

Review: I almost gave up on Gantz several times, but now that I've read it all the way to the end, I'm glad I stuck with it. The beginning is dragged down by repulsive and unlikable characters, a messily paced story, unnecessary sexualization and gratuitous violence without much substance. As it progresses, however, the character development becomes pretty incredible and the growing threat of the enemies feels truly well done. Once the real enemies are revealed, it's mind-blowing how the series had been secretly foreshadowing their arrival from the very beginning.

Although it takes a while, some really good characters are introduced later on in the series and they're the ones that made me want to read to the end. Some characters that were absolutely unbearable in the beginning became polar opposites of their original selves and even made me sympathize with them quite a bit. The protagonist Kei for example, I hated him with all my heart for the first third of the series, he became progressively more likable in the second third of the story and then he evolved into one of the most memorable, unlikely heroes I've ever seen in this storytelling medium throughout the final third. The last third of the series is unbelievably terrifying with some of the most gruesome and disgusting battle/survival scenes in the history of fiction. It's much more bearable and intense in the final third because this time the violence and horror is happening to people we actually care about instead of a bunch of unlikable nobodies.

The final third of the story is what made me feel so glad that I didn't give up on this series. It had me on the edge of my seat more times than I can recall. There are a ton of chapters but they're very short and full of action which makes the series a quick read despite having almost 400 chapters. So even though the first third of the story was kinda bad in my opinion, it doesn't last for long and the payoff that comes after it's over truly impressed me. It's a flawed, thrilling and horrifying action series that takes a while to kick off. When it finally kicks off, however, it kicks off extremely hard.

Both Kuronos get into fights of their own, with the focus being more on the one with Tae. Tae actually gets more limelight this time but all she does is cry, whimper, or scream "Kei-chan". It's... rather incredible that the author can only think of that for the character. Doesn't even bother giving her some internal monologue that's worth something. Oh well, already figured she's nothing more than a plot excuse way back when.

Anyway, the highlight here is actually the alien's capture of humans, specifically what to do with them. It's an eerie reflection of what humans do to some other species living on Earth. But there's a weakness and jarring contradiction in the author's portrayal - the author seemingly fails to make up his mind on how to define these invaders: Are they conquerors? Yet they're destroying things... slowly (one would expect they have bigger guns given their technology level). Are they just wanting to annihilate humans? Yet they're capturing them for food and entertainment.

While I like the imagery, I think it could have been so much better had the author actually given the aliens a proper purpose in coming to Earth - there doesn't seem to be any.

This Gantz is a continuation where Kei Kurono follows Tae down a storm drain and ends up in an alien world. I usually go into the basis of the story but, since this is the 30th edition, I'm wondering how necessary that really is. If this is the first Gantz you have run across, it is a Japanese graphic novel that is read from right to left. The good guys wear black tights, the women are large breasted and the aliens have four eyes. It's a likable tale and amazingly fast read even when I take time to look at the artwork for detail.

Things changed again. This series. My god. It makes me keep reading it. Also, can we talk about the art style for the past few volumes? It's amazing. Compared to vol 1, the art style now is on a whole new level. It got gradually better with each volume.

Gantz takes a different course in this volume, at times it feels like Moebius-esque sci-fi.... and I like it very, very much.

No sé por qué me salteé esta reseña pero el tomo estaba lindo y toda esta saga me hace acordar a un cuento de ciencia ficción que leí que no recuerdo el nombre.
