THEY SAY YOUR LIFE CAN CHANGE IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE...
And the woman who used to be known as Claire Sherman had to agree. Because that second, that minute, that day exactly six years ago was the one in which everything had simply ceased to be.
Her name -- it was now Elena Lopez. Her future -- no white lace, no promises, no babies in store for her. Even the man she loved -- she had to let Tucker Sutherland go, for his own sake.
But into this altered reality came a new identity. A new hope. Still, once again, it was October. And the winds of change were starting to blow....
Patricia Ann Kay was born on 7 March 1937 in a small town in northeastern Ohio, USA, where she raised along with three younger sisters. She considers herself a very lucky woman. The family didn’t have a lot of money, but she says that didn’t matter, because what they did have was worth more than money — a happy home. Her parents had a good marriage and they doted on their four daughters. That upbringing is reflected in the stories she writes. As readers all over the world have discovered, her books are filled with warmth and love of family.
Pat has lived in upstate New York, Northern Alabama, Southern California, and Stockholm (Sweden), and since 1969, in Houston, Texas with her husband. She says that no matter where she’s lived, she’s found that people everywhere are the same and want the same things: love and committed relationships. The marriage has three terrific grown children. They currently share their home with two longhaired cats, and a backyard filled with squirrels, birds, and other critters. Her hobbies and other interests include reading, walking for exercise, going to the movies and the theater, swimming, and traveling.
In 1990, Pat sold her first romance novel to Silhouette. Since then, more than four million copies of her novels have been published in eighteen different countries. Today, Patricia Kay, alias Ann Patrick and Trisha Alexander, is an USA Today bestselling author of 50 novels of romance and women's fiction.

A love so strong and wanting him to have a full life and a family she let him go. was it a love that would come back, or would a different love be in place for them. A story of healing and of dreams one had.
Patricia Jay has written another book that defies my thoughts on what a happy ending is about. She doesn't disappoint. But throws my the reader for a loop. The story is about two people who were torn apart by a car accident. She had so many injuries. He had gone to Nepal for an adventure but when he got back he was told that she had died. The story goes on from there. I don't want to spoil it for others. Just to say I didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling of love connection in the end.
This was a bit different from what I usually read, but I found it gut wrenching and intriguing. Claire made a hasty decision that fractured many lives including the person she loved the most...Tucker. I read this book in the course of an afternoon and it’s one you definitely won’t want to put down!
Even though this story had a happy ending, it also was a bit of a depressing story. Totally different storyline than I have ever read! Had to read just to find out the ending.
4 stars for Come October a wonderful story of Claire who is badly injured in an automobile accident. The struggles to come back to life leave her looking and feeling like a different person. How she overcomes and finds her happy ending is an interesting journey.
Heartwarming story of love, loss and character. Nice to read stories that show the good in people. In today's world we forget that people are generally good and unselfish.
I almost stopped reading this book but I pressed on because I wanted to see how it ended. It's an OK book but I think the writer tried too hard yo tell a great story. I just couldn't get into the storyline.
When I got to chapter 8 I couldn't take it any more. I had to skip to the Epilogue to see if my predictions on this very predictible book were right. And they were. Ugh.
A captivating, page turning read!! This was so good I read it in a little over two hours.

10/04/05 #174 TITLE/AUTHOR: COME OCTOBER by Patricia Kay Rating: 4/B GENRE/PUB DATE/# OF PAGES: Romance, 2005, 289 pgs COMMENTS: Quick read. Clare Sherman, a woman in her mid-20's has it all -- great job, fiance who shares her athletic interests and desire to have a large family. An auto accident changes everything. Claire does survive but so much has changed she decides a new identity is the only way to survive. She becomes Elena Lopez and leaves behind her old life.
Tucker's feeling of loss, unresolved issues, and regrets made him obsessed with the thought of Claire. When someone acts the way he does, it's not really because of deep love but because of a question that would never be answered, "what could my life have been?" mind lingering with uncertainties make wonders to the human emotions... and then when it gets resolved, you'd obviously say, "oh, that was it?"
+ This was such a quick and good read. I liked the characters, and the story was something different than I've ever read before! I had a hard time putting this book down! - The ending was a little predictable and cheesy haha.
Interesting that a person could be passed off as being dead. I guess I most enjoyed the references to Northern California where part of the story takes place.
