Monster in My Bed #3

Hearts and Halos

Rate this book
Forgive me, Father, for I’m about to sin…

My life is a country song. I lost my abuela, my wife, my house, and my religion. After helping my two best friends find love, I’m broke, out of shape, and lonelier than ever.

Until I find an injured winged monster in the church basement I’m remodeling. He’s the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen. Hurt and alone, he needs my help to find his missing halo. He also seems to think I’m destined to be his mate.

I don’t have the heart to tell him I’m straight…Well, straight-ish.

But his himbo charm is growing on me and I don’t know how to feel when he showers me with praise for every little thing. Being attracted to a man is new enough, but to a monster that looks like an angel? Seminary school never could’ve prepared me for this.

Hearts and Halos is the third book in the Monsters in my Bed series, a series of standalone MM monster romances featuring cinnamon roll monsters and the men who love them. This is a bi-awakening body positive romance between a chubby former priest and a semi-Biblically accurate angel who adores him. Please see the interior or the author’s website for content warnings.

Cupid was exactly the opposite. He took care of me, showered me with compliments and an embarrassing amount of adoration. Even though we hadn’t known each other that long, I knew he was exactly what I needed, when I needed it.

Hearts and Halo is the third book in the Monsters in My Bed series, and it was a delightful addition.

We have Charlie aka Chappie, who is a former military chaplain, in the midst of a messy divorce who finds an injured angel-like being while clearing out an old church. I was excited to meet Cupid when I first learned of him, and seeing him and Chappie come together was too sweet.

Cupid, while he does come off initially as arrogant and strong, is genuinely a big sweet himbo. He quickly learns that Chappie is his mate, but knowing all the things that Chappie is dealing with - including coming to terms with his attraction to males - he holds off and takes his time with him.

Chappie has had body image issues and felt insecure; his wife of 10 years did not help with the way she tore down his self-confidence either. I love how Cupid loves everything about him and makes him know there is nothing wrong with him. He slowly builds up Chappie's confidence, and seeing him become brave is lovely.

While this book is less spicy than the previous books, it makes sense as Chappie deals with a terrible divorce, body image issues, and his sexuality. However, when we get the spicy moments, it is delicious and well written, as I have come to expect from L Eveland! The tatted-up and unique parts are a plus, and how useful is having four arms when pleasuring your partner?

Overall it was a wonderful addition to the series! I am now excited for Hotdog's story~ While this can be read as a standalone, I do recommend starting from the first book to have a better reading experience.

Hearts and Halos is everything you'd expect from this series. It didn't have the secret government agency theme of the previous two books, instead going in a slightly different direction, but it was still a page turning story that I found quite addictive!

As is usual with this series (so far anyway), our monster, Cupid (nickname) is a bit of marshmallow fluff ball ---- once you get past his cocky arrogant first impression! Strong softness (Cupid despite being a softy is not a pushover) is exactly what Charlie (Chappie) needs.

I really enjoyed the previous characters - Chris & Ollie, Phoenix & Bud, coming back into the story, and that D & D was a lot of fun!! But what I loved most, was Axel and Hot Dog being so front and centre. I'm really excited for their stories now.

While Hearts and Halos definitely finished on a very strong HFN, or even a HEA, their story is not over just yet, and I was really happy to read that the author plans a novella rounding out the loose ends of their story. I'm just dying to see what happens!

Hearts and Halos *could* technically be read as a standalone, but I really wouldn't recommend it. You really need the background of particularly the human characters to get the best experience. I'd strongly recommend with starting with Kissed by the Krampus (book 1) as there is a continuing story line/shared backstory running through all the books, and you'd miss a lot if you started at book3.

Highly recommend this series!!

Dios mio, he’s no angel. He’s the devil incarnate, and I’ve never wanted to sin so badly in my life.

⭐️3.5 for Hearts and Halos!!!

TROPES!!
✔️ Monster / Human romance
✔️ Crisis of Faith
✔️ Hurt / Comfort
✔️ Telepathic Mates
✔️ Found Family
✔️ Forced Proximity
✔️ Prince Albert & more 🍆

I enjoyed the characters, loved Cupid and his open book confidence (ie flexing his bicep after tons of push-ups to show Charlie bc it’s ‘impressive’) loved the found fam vibe - love the whole crew and getting more direct I sight of lives of Hotdog, Olli/Chris, Axel (I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE DEAL IS WITH HIS GHOST!!!)

For Charlie, who thinks of himself ‘fat’, and an overall poor body image - this type of talk from the monster MMC, Cupid, was honestly my favorite part of this book. The big winged warrior angel guy loved Charlie’s soft body and made it known alll the timmmmeee.
At least my mate was attractive, not too thin, and pleasantly soft looking. Plenty to hold on to and squeeze between my fingers.

SWOON I’ll take an order of exactly that please and thank you.

The reason it didn’t hit that 4 star rating for me - the beginning was solid, but about 60-65% it felt like things lost momentum. The buildup was great! But the end of that buildup seemed a bit anticlimactic. That said, if you’re hoping for something low angst, body positive characters & swoony angel-like monsters with 4 arms - I FULLY recommend!

⚠️Charlie is going through a divorce from an emotionally abusive woman who has destroyed his confidence and self worth, which comes with imposing negative thoughts and more - check CW!⚠️

First a disclaimer, I’m super sick right now so I apologize if this is not as cohesive as my usual ARC reviews. I promise the book was really good even if my review isn’t. 😅

I have been really excited about the (partially) biblically-accurate angel angle with this one ever since he was mentioned at the monster containment facility lol. And this story didn’t disappoint! Charlie/Chappie truly deserved his HEA and L. Eveland didn’t half-ass it; I thought the connection aspect was particularly lovely given how horrible his ex-wife was.

When Cupid was initially introduced I was a little worried because he comes off very cocky and kinda rude, but thankfully it’s just a misunderstanding slash species thing that quickly gets worked out! So hang in there because you will not want to miss this giant himbo and his sweet little human get their love story.

The steamy scenes were, as always, fantastic. In particular: the praise *chefs kiss,* super hot! What really stood out to me though was the body positivity. There was a moment in particular where the following quote is from that brought happy tears to my eyes. “If you keep carrying me everywhere and feeding me pancakes, I’m going to get even fatter.” (Charlie) “Then I will get stronger.” (Cupid) There wasn’t a moments hesitation, there wasn’t an argument about his weight or an attempt to lie to mollify him. Just simple acceptance. “I’ll get stronger” 🤷‍♀️ And I want more of that in the books I read almost as desperately as I want more of that in real life.

I could continue gushing all day but I don’t want to give away too much of the good stuff. This one is really worth the read.

Oh! Also worth mentioning if you’re someone that's been reading all the books rather than jumping in as they can be standalones, that we get more gang time and I really love all their interactions. I weirdly did not like Chris/Ollie in this one as much as in their own book, but I think that's just because at this point Ollie and his other-monster prejudices need to take several seats lol. We are three books deep, he should know by now that not all monsters are what he thinks, and Chris should be helping mellow him out! I loved sweet baby Bud though, it made me SO happy that he was present and supportive.

Now I cannot WAIT for Hotdog’s book — bring on the brat-taming! *evil cackle*

To the author... you already had Chris' flatmate, WHAT exactly was the necessity to make the ONLY character in a hetero relationship also have a gay relationship.

Although I AM on an M/M binge, there's an insidiousness to most female authors of the genre that allow their internalised misogyny through when writing M/M romance stories.

Basically that women are inherently toxic & ONLY a man can appreciate & love a man... that women are cheaters, nags, clingy, insufferable, etc... & men need to get with other men to escape the awfulness that is WOMAN 🙄

In M/M romance stories, the ONLY women who are NOT insufferable are the gay man's bestie, whose only purpose in the stories is to be supportive & a fodder.

Even in straight series, most authors have tried to incorporate at least ONE gay couple or even throuples... however NEVER in M/M romances... Heck, usually even the MC's parents who are/were in straight relationships, suddenly turn gay as well, as that's the only acceptable sexuality in gay series, which I find as insidious & harmful as people using the Bible as an excuse to hate gay people!

Worse even is that most M/M stories are written BY women FOR women, but women are depicted as vile creatures that need to be avoided at all costs & THAT does piss me off!

I'm not even asking for there to be stories about straight couples, but for the love of all that is merciful, do incorporate HEALTHY hetero relationships in gay series as well... let them be background stories or even have them have their own HEA off-page, but a series where EVERYONE needs to be &/or is gay... is overkill as well as unrealistic & I am really starting to get fatigued with THAT particular perfidious trope!

Also, it's not really allyship if the supportive character is also gay, bi, pan, demi, etc... Just saying 🤷‍♀️

Yikes, with so many available sex toys... a METAL dildo?!? 😬 Lordy, I DREAD smear tests exactly because of those metal phallic contraptions that are cold as hell, unwieldy, uncomfortable & not even remotely sexually appealing...

Why not use a lifelike dildo?!? There are SO many to pick from in all sizes. Heck, the 17in Black Destroyer Dildo comes to mind, that thing is thick & as long as a man's forearm... sounds ideal IMO, but METAL?!? NOPE 😶

I'm not gonna blame the author for this as I think it's more the narrator, who's not bad, but also not really that engaging IMO!

I've had similar issues with other narrators, where the story in & of itself is fine, but they're unable to grip my attention during the sex scenes, so I end up having to rewind it several times before my brain latches onto the action, but because of that, I never really end up finding the scenes appealing, riveting or intriguing.

For example, I LOVED Michael Lesley in the Monstrous series, but I wasn't a fan of narrators in the Goliaths of Wrestling series & I did wish that Michael Lesley had narrated that series as well, but that's just me...

For another example, IMO with KJ Charles' works, they're better narrated by Cornell Collins as that's a marriage made in heaven & no other narrator IMO ever fits that role more perfectly than CC when bringing KJC's works to life.

I'd genuinely not even realised that there were 2 narrators to this story. Their voices are far too similar & it is more of a me thing as I do prefer deeper voices & both (now that I've realised there are 2) the narrators in this have far too breathy voices with higher tones, one (I'd assumed it was simply a voice the narrator was interpreting) has a voice that sounds like the AI voice in movies when a base is about to blow up & they're doing the countdown or giving directions & that's the voice for Cupid & frankly, it's kinda off-putting for me as it's too female sounding for my tastes when listening to M/M romance...

Personally, I'd envision a VERY deep voice for a 7ft warrior rather than a voice similar to Sigourney Weaver, who I LOVE & IS a badass, but again not the ideal voice IMO for an M/M story.

So, I'm not going to, but it's probably better to read the stories on KU (I'm assuming they're available through that, I'd definitely not recommend buying these works... buy the originals they're imitating as those are masterpieces) rather than the audiobooks as the narrators are better suited, IMO, to authors like EJ Russell, which are closed door & it doesn't matter how sexy they sound as there's no action to be had 🤷‍♀️

When there's smut, I do require a sexy DEEP voice...

Charlie's life was going downhill. He had left the military and married a woman who made his life miserable for 10 years. She repeatedly cheated on him and verbally abused him. Now finally she files for divorce and takes everything. He quits his job because he is unwilling to work for his former father-in law at the same business as his former wife. Charlie has moved in with a former military friend and is picking up odd jobs like working on an expansion for the church. Charlie and his friend Alex are cleaning up storm damage in the basement of the church when Charlie finds a trail of bid bloody feathers. He follows them to a monster who looks like an angel with his wings but also has 4 arms. Charlie takes Cupid home to take care of him and help him out. Charlie enjoys being with Cupid because he keeps building Charlie up and stands up for him. However Charlie is confused because he never dreamed that he would be attracted to an alien monster.

Cupid is a Dominion and the empress' right hand. He left his home planet in hopes of finding a cure for his friend and pet dragon. When he arrived on Earth, he was quickly drugged by magic smoke and held captive. He was tortured and they took his halo away which helped him control his psychic abilities. When some other monsters invaded the holding facility, Cupid was freed but he was still searching for his halo. After weeks, he finally found it only to lose it in a big storm. He was hurt in the storm and found a hideout in a church. That is where Charlie found him. Cupid notices quickly that Charlie is his mate but Charlie seems reluctant to get close. Can Cupid win his mate especially after he was so abused by his ex?

Still enjoying this series. The plot lines are interesting but without any twists and turns. Character development is fine, but I am left a little ..... disappointed? by the monsters. Aside from their appearance, they are so - human. I mean Bud has a job as a travel something. He does it online from the RV. The series is not a copy of anyone else's and the monsters have their own kinks. I think my favorite thing in this book is the following quote. It just rang so true.

"We think of sexual attraction as a flexible spectrum. I have had partners in the past who only coupled with other males, but perhaps one day they will decide they want a woman, or they may not. Either way, it would not change who they are. It makes as much sense to me as defining people by their preference for spicy salsa. Some people like it. Some don’t. Some like it some days, but not others and perhaps someone who has never liked it before will learn he does like it when one specific person makes it. A person who only likes their salsa made by one specific person and dislikes all others is no less valid than someone who eats all the salsa all the time.” I was quiet for a moment, considering his words. “They all enjoy their salsa the way they like it and that’s okay.'"

Hearts and Halos by L. Eveland is another fantastic addition to the Monster in My Bed series, and I ended up loving this book way more than I expected. I’ll be honest—at first, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Cupid. His personality was... a lot. But he totally won me over. Watching him grow, soften, and adapt for Charlie (aka Chappie) was such a satisfying emotional journey.

And let’s talk about Chappie—he was everything. I absolutely loved that he wasn’t the typical “fit and chiseled” MMC. So many MM books feature two characters who are built like literal gods, and while that can be fun, it was incredibly refreshing to see someone more relatable, more real, and still completely perfect in every way. His softness, both physically and emotionally, made him so lovable and easy to root for.

The interconnected world L. Eveland has built across this series just keeps getting better, and I loved seeing how each new pairing adds something fresh to the overall story while still tying in beautifully with the rest.

Spicy, heartfelt, and surprisingly sweet, Hearts and Halos delivered exactly what I didn’t know I needed—and I’m so glad I stuck with it. Chappie and Cupid are such a win.

Charlie’s life seems to be off track. His has lost his abuela, his wife and his house, as well as his religion and his job. Needing to do something, he agrees to remodel the church basement. Then he finds an injured winged monster in that basement. He cannot leave him there so he brings him home to help him heal. Cupid, the name Charlie takes from the monster’s own name, claims that Charlie is his mate. Charlie is not so sure. He considers himself to be straight, but finds himself attracted to this monster who resembles an angel.

Charlie really had a tough life. His soon to be ex-wife insulted and denigrated him to the point he had little to no self-esteem. His friends tried to help but Charlie had to help himself first. Cupid was so good for him. He saw what a wonderful person Charlie is and complimented him regularly. Cupid was not familiar with human customs and nuances. It made for some incredible scenes where he tried to figure out what he did wrong. I love these two together and there is more coming of their story. L. Eveland writes with incredible imagination and makes her heroes loveable and charming. This series is a must read.

Body positivity with a flare for the dramatic

This author was actually recommended to me through Tik Tok... so to the author, your engagement with me really helped sell me on getting this book.

I feel like there aren't a lot of body positivity in stories for chubby guys and it isn't fetishized (and there's nothing wrong with that either cuz I go for that as well).

But the protagonist of this story really felt genuine. I felt for his plight in coming to terms with his sexuality, but also coming to terms with the fact that he is not only seen as desirable but also as loveable.

Possible negatives for others are the themes of religion and abuse which the author talks about in the beginning so anyone who reads this knows about it (which is another way I proudly rep this author).

But the sense of found family, made community, humor and acceptance are all very prevalent in this book.

Note: THIS BOOK IS ALSO HELLA SPICY!!! Like 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 outta 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 for me. Phew!!!!

For me this book checked a lot of good marks for me. Humor, touching, compassion, sex and over all a great HEA.

great story, couple nit-picks.

Loved the story, enjoyed the idea of the Dominion. Biggest bit-pick is of the depiction of divorce law in Michigan. Totally not how it works; especially since there were no children involved and they were married ten years. Ten is sort of a magic number in divorces. Everything would have been split down the middle. Even if that witch kept the house, she would have had to pay him the fair market value for half the house in order to keep it, else it would have been sold. Even if he initially would have refused, the judge would have ordered a fair division of assets, considering it would have rendered him homeless and jobless. It simply would not have happened that way. That isn’t how divorce law works.
Second issue is that the last 5-8% of the book is completely unedited. Very hard to read, considering how much communication is telepathic. The telepathic conversation prior to this point had been italicized, and when it stops there are no quotations to indicate dialogue so it reads as walls of nonsensical text with intermittent bouts of dialogue involving Hot Dog and Father Lott.

This was my favorite one in the series so far. Charlie has been so sweet this entire series and he really went through it with his now ex-wife. He deserved someone like Cupid who worships the ground he walks on.

The one thing I don't like in this story is how much the monsters need to hide. I think L Eveland is leaning towards exposing them to the world/humans.

I enjoyed the glimpses of Bud and Phoenix from book 2 - they've gotten virtual jobs they can take on the road in their RV. I also love everyone coming together to play DnD. We add new monsters every book, but everyone is friends and are actually interacting with each other.

It's good to see a plus size character given so much love. Cupid started out as an asshole that only cares about himself but quickly gets over that. He's still competitive and self-assured, but not the same asshole we originally meet.

I was glad to see Hot Dog/Anne Marie step out his/her shell. Cupid was a good person to get Hot Dog to leave his house. I wish they had set up that they had set up that Hot Dog had rich parents in book 1, but oh well. Looking forward to his story.

**spoilers for first couple books in series**

As cute as the romance is and the absolute himbo of a ML, the villain of the story fell so flat. First, he's a godly man, then it's insinuated that he doesn't believe in holy water, then when come face to face with what all humans would call an angel, he's on such a power trip that he tries to threaten him?? Oh and when backed against a wall, only then does he cripple and say he'll help them in any way to attone for his wrongdoing. Sorry, but he was so all over the place, probably the worst villain I've read in a story. And after that, instead of the anal sex scene we're promised, there's a whole section dedicated to a d&d campaign finale. I like d&d, but damn did that drive home how boring and flat this story is. Writing a fictional d&d campaign should never be done, it's improv and uses dice for a reason. It feels so forced when written about because of course they're going to get a nat 20 at the most crucial time and win against the big bad guy.
Should probably give this a 2 star for the ending too. I get setting up Hotdog for their story next book, but to not even give us a good glimpse of Cupid's home?? absolutely cheated.

2.5 rounded up. I keep rounding up with this series because I do enjoy it but I’m always left with the feeling that something was missing. In this one it felt like Cupid’s character did a 180 and became a himbo over night. I would have liked to see him still have that warrior huge ego while simping for Charlie. It also went over sexuality too many times and with two many metaphors. I’m all about self exploration and finding what label or if a label even fits but it was done by like three different characters and they were all saying the same thing. Too repetitive for me to care.
Then Ollie and everyone made a huge deal how Charlie should stay away from Cupid but didn’t say anything when they needed up together. Like what.
In all this story felt disconnected from the other ones with no connection to a overall plot point like the previous too and their connections. It was still fun and I loved all the praise.
Pumped for Hotdog/Annie’s story… but I’m really staying around for Ben and Axel’s.

Charlie (Chappie) is a former military chaplain and Cupid is a fallen angel. Or close enough. They’re clearly a match made…somewhere, but Charlie, in the midst of a rough divorce from a toxic partner, dealing with the insecurities that relationship created, processing his changing awareness of his own sexuality, etc. has more than his share of baggage to work through. He needs someone who will put him first and show patience and kindness, and after some initial misunderstandings, that’s what he gets. It’s deeply satisfying, seeing these two together, as well as, of course, full of chemistry and both emotional and physical. I liked both characters and thought they worked well together, and while their story has some frustrating moments, all in all it’s a satisfying read. As a final note, while the romance could work on its own, it’s helpful for context on the world building and characters to have read previous installments in the series (as an added bonus, they’re also well worth it, in their own rights).

*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Hearts and Halos is the third book in the Monsters in My Bed series, a paranormal romance book featuring monsters and the humans who end up loving them. This series also has a great overarching plotline spanning the books in the series. You can read this book as a standalone, there is a blurb in the beginning of this book that catches the reader up on everything that has happened so far, but I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series beforehand for maximum enjoyment.

Oh Charlie! Finally he gets his chance at love and happiness, especially after that mess with his ex-wife Carrie. Cupid, the winged monster…angel?...was NOT angelic at first. This winged guy had ATTITUDE, but nothing that couldn’t be sorted out. Once the misunderstanding was fixed, that’s when the sweetness started – I really liked how much Charlie grew as a character and how his relationship with Cupid developed. I loved the steamy moments as much as the romantic moments. The worldbuilding was great and I love learning more about this monster-filled world.

Hearts and Halos is the third in the Monster in my Bed series. It features a veteran ex-chaplain and a feathery soft-dom himbo. Charlie has been mentioned in both previous books, and is coming out of a 10 year abusive relationship. His self-esteem and body image have taken a hard knock over this time. While cleaning out the basement of his local church, he comes upon Cupid - one of the monsters that escaped the facility in book 1 of the series. Cupid is portrayed as a semi-biblically accurate angel and at first comes off very arrogant. In reality he has, as one character points out "big golden retriever energy", and is just what Charlie needs to reconcile his budding bisexual awakening, and heal from the abuse inflicted upon him by his ex-wife. Cupid ends up being an extremely kind, caring character who supports not only Charlie, but his friend Hotdog as well. One of my favourite scenes in this book is the dnd campaign all the characters have embarked upon - it's truly nerdy and a whole lot of fun.

A sweet, fun story. I really enjoyed the setup with the so-called monster going all sweet and caring for his human lover. Cupid doesn’t make the best first impression but is swift to do an about-face for Charlie once they get to know each other. Cupid is painted as both a successful warrior and a himbo, and that combination did require a bit of suspension of disbelief. It didn’t bother me too much though because Charlie deserves all the loving, protecting and compliments and Cupid certainly delivers. I liked Charlie a lot; he’s such a genuinely nice guy and has been so hurt. He is still licking his wounds after getting out of an abusive relationship, and his feelings for Cupid take him by surprise—in a good way. There’s some more action-driven, suspenseful scenes as the mystery of Cupid’s missing halo unfolds. I really liked how all of that worked out. The secondary characters are mostly familiar faces, which was quite nice.

My first book in the Monster in my bed series and that was a ride! Charlie being in midst of a stressful and ugly dirvorce trying his best to get back on his feet. Between jobs but with his friends by his side he finds an injured angel in search of his missing halo.Taking him home and tending to his wounds we learn that this angel has a way too long name and titles. For short Cupid, he is a way too sexy angel with tattoos and lots of piercings. Just imagining an angel this hot and sexy felt like a sin I wouldn't regret to go to hell for.

Cupid is a hilarious and arrogant fucker. He is full of himself and doesn't understand the difference between monsters and humans which made the whole book so funny, it was a big romcom with some very sexy times I adored.

While it was pretty obvious from the beginning where the missing halo was located the interactions between Cupid and the others brought tears to my eyes. Charli's roommate Hotdog that wore a tin hat that would protect him from Cupids ability to read thoughts killed me, I needed a few minutes to calm down from laughing and lying on the floor.

Charlie was relatable, he wasn't a perfectly sculpted gym bro. He and Cupid were cute together, Cupid adored Charlie and it was wholesome on so many levels. His roommate Hotdog was lovable and funny, a nerd I could personally relate to. All in all every single character was lovely. A fun and light read for a relaxing evening, nothing to take too seriously.

Sometimes it was a little to light-hearted for me and I missed some seriousness but I still enjoyed it. 3 solid stars.

I loved this book! I've been in love with this series and it's characters from book one and as soon as I saw this (gorgeous cover!), it was a must-read. Great world building and wonderful characters. I liked Charlie from the start and was very sad for his poor self esteem and depreciation of his body image- mostly due to his ex-wife. This story was a bi-awakening for him and he had emotions to work through. Cupid is an angelic-looking monster with a large personality and confidence. I can't really call him arrogant because his life and treatment is very different than it would be if he were human. He believed Charlie was his mate and after a bit of a rough beginning, turned very sweet and attentive. Overall this was a fun and captivating read and I can't wait until the next book in this series. 5 stars.

The Monster in My Bed series has been phenomenal.  The monsters are all fierce, strange, super powered and absolute cinnamonrolls (warm and gooey toward their mates).  Cupid is adorable, earnest, weird and amazing.  Charlie is working through a lot of emotional damage that he'd suffered from a previous relationship.  The hurt/comfort vibes are strong with this one.

Each of these books can be read as a standalone.  If you wish there is a spoiler post at the beginning of the book to help you catch up on previous plots, but that's not necessary.  I would encourage you to read them all, though, as it is very satisfying to see all of the side characters develop and grow and hopefully get their own stories in the future!

When Cupid is first found and rescued, he comes across as an arrogant a@*. He soon realizes that Charlie is not impressed, and tones himself down, becoming a thoroughly likeable character. I'm so happy Charlie finally gets someone to love him the way he is, and that Cupid defeats the voice of his ex, who was a shrewish female dog if ever one was written. It's nice to have visits by previous characters, and expansion of ones we've already met who will become important (Hotdog is my hero!). The storyline has enough suspense to keep the book interesting, and Cupid's interactions with Charlie and his friends keeps the entertainment value high. I was somewhat sad it ended the way it did (a bit sudden, nothing bad), so I'm hoping the next book picks up right where we left off.

I don't know how, but the books in this series keep getting better.
Maybe I like this one so much because Charlie doesn't fit the "perfect" image of a man. He's not too tall, a little chubby, and plagued by self-doubt. He is on the verge of a divorce from his horrible wife, who has ruined him emotionally and mentally over the years.
So at first he can't believe that Cupid, this winged, hunkalicious specimen of a monster, actually has serious intentions.
While searching for Cupid's halo, which he somehow lost, they get closer bit by bit and booooy....they are on fire!!!!
Bi-awakening in perfection.

A fantastic third book in the series with not so perfect main characters who nevertheless set everything on fire with their chemistry.

Totally recommend!

Things are not going in his life as Charlie would like them. He is kind of down on his luck when he finds Cupid and his life takes a turn in an unexpected direction. He thought he was straight and was recovering from dealing with his ex-wife but now he's attracted to a male. Who happens to not be human. I liked how them working out their relationship helped Charlie find his footing. I also found the suspenseful parts of the book as they work through the mystery of Cupid's missing halo is value added but not overwhelming. It was nice to see a nice guy move in a direction where he was more appreciated. Cupid certainly appreciated Charlie in steamy and fun to read ways.
I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I was so excited to receive this ARC! This series is amazing, and leaves me anxiously waiting for the next one every time.

Each book I think I’ve found my new favorite monster, so really I just love them all. The golden retriever like personality of Cupid was so fun to read, although slightly arrogant, I couldn’t help but love him right away. The way he just showers Charlie with praise and love that he needs so badly.

Charlie of course, I couldn’t wait for him to find his happiness, and it was refreshing to read about his mental struggles and the way Cupid handles it. They are such a strong match together.

The spice was amazing, just like everything else. 4.5/5 ✨ I recommend this series to everyone!

Charlie, a divorced veteran and straight man rescued a monster, Cupid from a church basement. Cupid can't return to his otherworld until he is healed and has found his missing halo. Besides, he recognizes Charlie as his mate. In this third book of the series, Cupid is an arrogant, egocentric telepath who totally adores Charlie, the sweetest, kindest insecure man. I was captivated by these two and loved Charlie's bi-awakening. I love how L's books flow into each other from one to the next. The monster's just keep getting better. Now, I have to wait for the next one! I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion. Heaven must be missing an Angel!

Charlie and his Cupid

Charlie has major insecurities brought on by his horrible ex wife. When he finds a monster of his own, he is a first very reluctant. Cupid has to work really hard to convince Charlie that he is his mate and that he is worthy. I loved the cooking lessons, the bedroom lessons, and the confidence Cupid instilled in Charlie.

I love how much the “monsters” seemed so much more compassionate than most of the humans they dealt with.

All the monsters and their new found human mates made appearances in this story. With a new intriguing sounding monster coming in the next book. possibly for Alex?

Charlie deserved someone special and Cupid definitely was that.

I was really excited for Charlie to get his "monster" and while the story does have a HEA, I didn't find myself as invested in "Cupid" as I was in the previous two monsters. Cupid starts off as a rather arrogant jerk and it took a while for me to warm up to him. There wasn't as much backstory in this book and the "bad guys" didn't hold as much weight for me as in the previous books. I found myself sort of skimming through parts. That said, it was still a good read with lots of steamy times and I'm very curious as to what the next book will hold. I hope Hotdog gets his own monster! I'm definitely invested in the series and will be watching for the next book.
