Born storyteller Daisy Dexter Dobbs wrote her first book when she was five, satisfying her inner ham by reading it aloud, using a toilet plunger as a microphone. Next to the big red checkmark she earned each year on her report cards, Daisy’s teachers noted: “Daydreams too much!”

Today, Daisy transforms her daydreams into heartfelt contemporary romance and laugh out loud romcoms with varying degrees of spice, mingled with touches of magic and fantasy. She’s easily able to write swoon-worthy heroes, tales of strong friendships, complex family dynamics, and heart-satisfying romance because she’s lived it, either in reality or inside her tiny brain.

A writer, artist, and crafter, Daisy happily dabbles in the fine art of creative eccentricity in the Pacific Northwest where she lives with her husband (the inspiration for every hero she creates), and their adorable rescue dog, Lollipop. Happily, Daisy no longer feels the need to use a toilet plunger as a microphone when entertaining.

Lula is a student at Cupid Academy on Mount Olympus. Her final exam for the Perfect Love Matches 101 course consists of a visit to Earth. Lula is a bit absent-minded and clumsy, and luck is always against her. First she is late, missing the “bus” with all the other students. Next, during the actual ride, Lula finds herself losing all her course material through air turbulence. Cupid is travelling incognito; she now has to find him on Earth. But how will she when she no longer has a map or her invisibility garb which would allow her to roam the streets of Earth incognito too?

In a flower shop called Cupid’s Headquarters, hunky electrical contractor Dake figures he’s signed up for a day in hell. He knows nothing of flowers. Why did he even agree to man the shop for his brother? Until the minute a nearly naked Lula walks in. She’s blonde, curvy, a bit ditzy, true, but oh so luscious.

Lula is convinced she’s found the real Cupid’s headquarters on Earth. And the gorgeous man who greets her there has to be Cupid – there’s no way a hunky male like him can be anything but a God. But then, “Cupid” lets her know he is very interested in her. What’s a nymph got to do then?

The story is funny. Definitely lives up to anyone’s idea of a romantic comedy. The element of fantasy and magic thrown in further add to its charm. There were moments of laugh-out-loud humour which had this reviewer in stitches.

However, while the story itself was interesting, the characters proved rather flippant to this reader. Lula’s naiveté and candidness are refreshing at first, but then there comes a point when it gets too much. For a heroine, she gets too ditzy, not doing justice to who she could be. The hero too, for all the persona the author infuses in him, has moments when his behaviour and reactions are just a tad over too much and frankly, immature for the man he portrays himself to be. These two factors combined weaken a plot which has potential and promise. While a happy ending is always sought after, the whole second half of this story read too-good-to-be-true, which lures away form the story.

This factor seriously hampered this reader’s appreciation. Ms. Dobb however writes with a very funny voice, and this very much helps to redeem the book.
