Caitlyn's aching vulnerability as she holds the precious baby piques his curiosity. Clearly, she has secrets. But then so does he…

Caitlyn doesn’t need a man or a baby in her life. Despite the fact that she designs wedding dresses for a living, marriage and motherhood are not for her.

But as the sweet baby binds Matt and Caitlyn together, they are both tempted with the image of a future they are afraid to believe in. The baby has a mother somewhere, and she might be coming back. Falling in love with the baby, with each other, could break both their hearts. Is either one willing to take the risk to find happily ever after?

Me ha gustado mucho esta historia. Los protagonistas son de los que se hacen querer, y la mini protagonista es para comersela. Una historia muy tierna. Recomendable 100%

Ok, I have been stalling. This is only my 2nd read by Barbara Freethy after the wonderful Just the Way You Are.

I have to spend days to finish this book. Sometimes I wonder whether this book is stuck at the 90s era - well, I imagine a fixed phone set, women with big hairdo (you get the idea). Even though at one point of time, the hero, Matt, used a cellphone - but still, the story feels old.

This book lacks the punch. Seriously.

It just had to have a baby to make to book going forward. I feel really disappointed since I cannot connect to the book on its emotional level.

And yes, the baby is the star of the story. When Matt found his sister's baby on his doorstep, thus the basis of the story started. That is where he asks for Caitlyn (seriously, a very classic name, SOO oldies?), his neighbour for help to take care of Emily, the baby.

I kind of like Matt's sister, Sarah. And the bond between the brother and sister is explained in details.

I have to be up-front here, I am not the target audience for this genre. I seldom read love stories as I find them predictable and cheesy. However, after reading a whole lot of legal thrillers and psychological thrillers I decided I needed to read something completely different, something to make me feel good about the world. I can't quite remember how I came upon Some kind of wonderful, but I'm glad I did. It is well-written with great realistic characters. The story is pretty good as well and quite original. There was enough mystery and suspense to keep me hooked.
So if I enjoyed it then why did I only give it 3 stars? Well, it is a problem with me and not with the book. Happy-ever-after endings with everybody smiling and happy because all their dreams came true just doesn't do it for a cynic like me. I guess that's why as a child I never read fairy stories. But for those of you who love predictable happy endings, then this will be a five star book for you!

Some Kind of Wonderful was just that. I loved every page and will read this story over and over again. I fell in love with Barbara Freethy's writing style a year ago and each story just grabs my heart more than the last. If you haven't given her books a try yet, get started with this one!

Hello and Welcome to another free form review. This time I'm talking about Some Kind of Wonderful by Barbara Freethy. It tells the story of Matt Winters an investigative reporter that moved back to the San Francisco area where he grew up in hopes of finding his younger sister Sarah, whom he hasn't seen since they were split up as kids in foster care.

After a few weeks he hasn't made much progress, until the night he finds a baby in the hallway of his apartment building. In a panic he knocks on his neighbor's door - thinking the baby is hers - and meets Caitlyn Devereaux. Caitlyn manages to get the baby to stop crying and finds the note explaining that the baby is Sarah's daughter and that Matt is supposed to take care of her.

From then on, Caitlyn and Matt's lives become intertwined as they struggle to take care of the baby and to find Sarah. Caitlyn is dealing with her own drama as her ex-fiancé has just returned from the East Coast and is keen on rekindling their romance, even if Caitlyn isn't so keen.

Some Kind of Wonderful sounded like a really good story in theory but in the end it just wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. Firstly, I feel like I should point out that it was first published in 2001, and it shows and not in a good way. The whole story feels quite dated.

Matt and Caitlyn were nice enough but at times it felt like the story was more a mystery than a romance and it wasn't a particularly compelling mystery (you know, the whole What Happened to Sarah? thing).

I guess that I just didn't mesh with this author's style. It was okay, the writing was good, but it wasn't particularly compelling. It didn't have that something that makes a story particularly memorable.

what can i say? It is a lite and easy read, without too much surprise or any of the "wow" factor. Its a simple love story, its romance, iits real. What i wasn't expected is how well written this book to be without having it to be a cheesy romance. Although, as 99.9% romance books goes, the happy ever after ending is pretty much predicted from the word read. This book can consider one of Freethy's better work. However, nothing out standing from it.

Kind of schizo story line -- ordinary, inoffensive romance plot about a wedding dress designer, reporter, and cute baby, meets somewhat more histrionic plot about a life altering accident and a controlling mother, meets completely over-the-top plot about postpartum depression, a sketchy preacher-romance, and an arsonist angel.

Matt is an investigative reporter that did not have a very good childhood. He was torn away from his younger sister at the age of 16 and thrown into the foster care system because his mother had too many mental issues to be a mother. Years later he is living in a no children allowed apartment building when there is a strange phone call where the caller only says his name very quietly "Matt..."
Not long later Matt hears a baby crying in the hallway. He this he is dreaming and opens his door and sure enough half way between his door and his neighbor's there is a baby in a car seat crying. Matt bangs on his neighbors door thinking it must be her baby.
Caitlyn is Matt's neighbor but they have never met before that night. Together they learn that the baby belongs to Matt's sister, Sarah. He has not seen in years and now he is on a mission to find her and to find out what kind of trouble she is in. Caitlyn is trying not to get too attached to both the baby and to Matt all while her ex Brian is trying to win her back.
Sarah is not sure what she is going to do, she is terrified that she has turned out as crazy as her mother and she knows that she can not do the kind of harm to her child that her mother did to her. So she feels there is no other option but to leave baby Emily with Matt. She is drawn to a church that wasn't far from her childhood home where the minister seems to want to help her.
This book had a different feel to it than Freethy normally writes but it still kept me captivated until the very end. I needed to know what would happen between Matt and Caitlyn, what would happen to baby Emily. I also needed to know what would happen to Sarah and the minister and to the church. It's a great book that I would recommend reading to anyone that likes mystery and romance.

received a copy of Some Kind of Wonderful by Barbara Freethy in exchange for an honest review.
Note: this review contains spoilers!
Four people who think that they are broken are brought together under the strangest circumstances and find that they really aren’t broken after all.
Matt has been trying to find his sister ever since the fire tore them apart when they were children. He blames himself for not taking care of her then and not being able to find her now.
Caitlyn was in a terrible skiing accident and can no longer have children. She feels her dream of happily-ever-after will never come true now and it has effected her job designing wedding dresses.
Reverend Jonathan Mitchell Is a pastor in a small church in a poor neighborhood. He does what he can, but he doesn’t have the gift of bringing people to church every Sunday that his father had and there is talk of closing the church.
Sarah is Matt’s sister and blames herself for that fire so long ago. Everything is her fault. But now she has a baby and she has a chance to do the right thing. Will she?
I loved this story! Sarah makes sure Matt is home then leaves Emily in front of his door. Matt is terrified of the baby and goes to his neighbor Caitlyn whom he has never met for help. As they take care of Emily, they slowly fall in love with her and with each other. Meanwhile, Sarah meets Jonathan and finds someone she can talk to and slowly learn to trust. Jonathan finds in Sarah someone who believes in him and the good he can do. As the four people grow in love and trust, they help each other let go of the feelings of failure and find happily-ever-after after all.
The characters are well developed as is the backstory so you can understand why the characters act and feel the way they do. Lots of humor, romance, and suspense!

**Received a copy in exchange for an honest review.**

"Some Kind of Wonderful" is written by Barbara Freethy, and it is a stand-alone book. It features Matt Winters and Caitlyn Devereaux.

Matt received a surprise on his doorsteps... a baby girl named Emily. Who's baby girl is this? Matt is panicking and thinking maybe Emily is his neighbor's daughter.

Caitlyn is trying to meet a deadline. She's finishing up a client's wedding gown, but when her neighbor is knocking on her door looking helpless with a baby girl, she decides to help him. They quickly realize Emily is Matt's sister's daughter. Problem is, Matt hasn't seen his sister, Sarah, in a very long time. He's actually looked for her before with no success. How was Sarah able to find him?

As the days go by, Caitlyn and Matt start to grow feelings for one another. But for both of them, their past has a way of making an appearance in the present. Can Caitlyn and Matt find their happily ever after? Why did Sarah leave Emily with Matt? Is Sarah in danger?

"Some Kind of Wonderful" gave me vibes of Barbara's Callaway series, which I absolutely love and adore! It had romance and suspense. Normally, I don't really like when there are more than 1 storyline in a book, but everything meshed perfectly. It made the story cohesive. Barbara Freethy wrote another winner with this story!

Some Kind of Wonderful

Some Kind of Wonderful is a wonderful story! The story of opposites who are attracted to each other. Matt is a hard-core newspaper reporter. Caitlyn is a dreamy wedding dress designer and shop owner. Matt and Caitlyn are neighbors in an apartment building, but have never met. That is never met until a baby is left on Matt’s doorstep and he is desperate for help. Matt demands that Caitlyn help him in the care of his long-lost sister’s child. Ms. Freethy has written a well-developed story with characters who grow. It is a story with many dimensions, not just a romance. It deals with parental neglect as well as over-bearing parents. Included is a minister who is desperately trying to find his calling in his ministry. A young mother, with a great love for her newborn child, but with no hope for a better future. There are struggles for a young woman who only wants be a mother and have her own children. Some Kind of Wonderful provides much to think and mull over. Another wonderful story from Barbara Freethy.

Reporter Matt and wedding gown designer / entrepreneur Caitlyn are apartment building neighbors in San Francisco. They never have met...until a baby is left on Matt's doorstep. Cue Caitlyn to help Matt with the child that turns out to be his niece. An attachment to each other and to the baby ensues.

This was a very cute story. Not really deep and the plot was evident almost from the beginning. Add in Sarah, the sister that dropped off the baby with Matt, Jonathan, a Pastor that must get his 'flock' together, the possible sighting of Matt and Sarah's mother, and Caitlyn's family, that wants her back together with her ex-fiancé Brian, and although it seems impossible to follow, it's pretty easy.

Love wins for Matt and Caitlyn and seems to be on the way for Jonathan and Sarah. A bit of a quirky ending, but all in all, a really enjoyable, easy read. Perfect for a lazy afternoon in front of the fire. One that you started...not one that someone in the story started!!

SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL by Barbara Freethy
Matt has the need for closure, wanting answers, the key to being a reporter, time off made him reckless. 72 hours without sleep, home and sleep;a noise out in hall and it's a baby in a car seat. Who left, he lives in apartment building, and didn't want to deal with this now. Caitlyn next door helps with the baby, didn't know her or that she had a bridal shop. One smile from the baby and Caitlyn heart melts. A note, the name Sarah, a lost sister of Matt's,for over 9 years. Both have dreams, that has made them.loners, could the baby and needing help while balancing their jobs change that.
A great story of a baby, that has the power to change the lives of so many people, and will the mother, Sarah, Matts lost sister join them .Delightful reading for all ages. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

This is the story about an investigative reporter, Matt Winters, and wedding dress designer, Caitlyn Devereaux. While these two live across the hall in their apartment building, they've never met. Until a baby shows up at Matt's doorstep one night and he doesn't know what to do!

I read this story a few years ago and just went back and read it again. I'd forgotten a lot of the details between the characters. Turns out, I loved the story just as much the second time around! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a heartwarming book about life struggles, family bonds, and all consuming love.

Redemption

This story is about a man who had a rough upbringing. Matt lost his family at sixteen years old to an apartment fire. He and his nine year old sister were separated, and he had no idea what happened with his mother. Now, thirteen years later, a baby is left at his door. He enlists the help of his neighbor across the hall, Caitlyn to help him with the baby since he has no idea what to do. Their journey takes a few twists and turns with some major revelations. It's a well written story with good characters. Barbara Freethy's tends to put a little bit of magic in all her stories. This one is no different. I enjoyed it.

Wonderfully Written
Matt Winters is a tough and tumble investigative reporter. Caitlin Deveroux is a bridal gown designer. He comes from a poor, abandoned background, she has two scientists for parents and an upper class home life. Opposites? Perhaps, but they definitely understand each other. When Matt finds a baby in his doorstep he pulls his neighbor, Caitlin, into his dilemma. Their search for answers to the mystery they face include an ex-fiancee, difficult parents, a missing sister, a young handsome minister and secrets. Lots of secrets. Barbara Freethy is a master at combining all these twists and turns into seamless storytelling. And baby Emily draws it all together. Definitely some kind of wonderful.

Another great one

As I started this book I thought that it would have to many different storylines. The more I read the more confused I got. But then all of a sudden it was all drawn together. I hated putting it down , I could not wait to see what would happen next. Each story was good but the sum of all of then was great.
The story combined romance, mystery and a little of God's work in there, too.
I wish there wasn't going to be a sequel to Some Kind Of Wonderful.
Thank you again Barbara for another great book.

SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL by Barbara Freethy is a stand-alone book that’s about a baby showing up at Matt’s door with a note that the baby belongs to his long lost sister, Sarah.

Matt enlists the help of his neighbor Caitlyn to help with the baby until they can find his sister. Along the way, Matt and Caitlyn’s feelings begin to grow into something they didn’t expect and for the baby.

Will these two find their HEA???

This is the first standalone I’ve read written by Barbara Freethy. I love the Callaway Series, including the cousins, but unfortunately, I’ve read them all and I was missing my Barbara Freethy fix.

I will admit I miss the Callaways, but Matt and Caitlyn found a tiny space in my heart which hadn’t been invaded by the Callaways. However, it took me a little longer to get involved with these characters and I wanted their story, as well as Sarah and Jonathan’s, to continue.

A baby is left in the hallway between the apartment of batchelor investigative reporter Matt and lonely wedding dress designer Caitlyn. Matt needs Caitlyn for baby care as he tries to find his sister who has left the baby and Caitlyn needs Matt to open up her life to possibilities. Of course it works out with each of them coming to terms with themselves and their challenges. Hooray for love and intimacy too.

I truly love this book and the way the author tells the story of how Caitlyn Devereaux meets her across the hall neighbor, Matt Winters. When Matt’s sister leaves her baby on his doorstep in the middle of the night without him knowing who left the baby, he turns to his neighbor for help. It takes the two of them to take care of a colicky little baby girl before the neighbors find out that there is a baby in a no children allowed apartment. Great story and very heart warming.

This wonderful story was completely captivating from two strangers, Caitlyn and Matt, working together to take care of an abandoned infant to the sharing of earlier traumas and well-kept secrets, and finally to their newly developing relationship that felt so natural. I couldn't get enough of their domestic bliss. Barbara Freethy always brings so much heart into her storytelling that I keep coming back for more. I Loved everything about this heartwarming book. Really Good Read!!!!!

Too Good to End!

Barbara Freethy writes a story that one does not want to end! Her characters are so well depicted that the reader has no trouble visualizing them. As well, she describes the series of events with realistic details. She tells a heartbreaking tale of loss and love, forgetfulness and forgiveness. Her readers will enjoy this one from start to finish!

For the most part this was your typical boy meets girl love story. But it wasn't sappy. This was my first read of this author and I think it would be a good choice by others for a first read of hers. Good story line that moved along and was difficult to put down.
