Cilla is the Cosmetologist Extraordinhair, hair-dresser to the cosmos.
She's bored, working as a hair stylist in Beverly Hills has lost its allure, and going truly freelance beckons.
Her life takes an unexpected turn after she starts Extraordinhair. Soon, she is recruited by a mysterious organization and mixes with a different class of people. Plus, some of her clientele are not even human.

Enjoyable Romp Across Space And Time
Extraordinhair certainly lives up to its name, in this tale of a cosmetologist who embarks on an extraordinary romp across the cosmos.
I like the neat way author Stefan Angelina McElvain divided the book up into three novellas – Cilla’s Journey, comprising 11 chapters, Cilla’s Adventures, of 12 chapters, and finally the ten chapters of Cilla Beyond, totalling just over five and a half hours reading time on my Kindle.
It’s a rollicking adventure, which begins with Cilla as a sex-mad, but otherwise ordinary, cosmetologist, who stumbles upon an out-of-this world client. And there her adventures start. The first of the trilogy of novellas introduces us to Cilla’s kinky world, and Cilla to worlds beyond Earth. The remaining two novellas largely leave Cilla’s kink behind, which begs the question as to why it played such a major part of her character originally.
Cilla’s adventures unfold into pure sci-fi, and we hurtle along breathlessly, as the well-paced plot develops. The major premise becomes body transformation and a time travel system that I’ve never come across before in 60 years of reading sci-fi, so kudos to McElvain for coming up with something unique.
However, both push the realms of my personal incredulity, even for this genre. Once I’d come to terms with that, though, and mentally told myself that it could indeed be feasible in this vast fictional infinity of time and space created by the author, I settled down to enjoy the latest part of the ride.
It's a well-told story, but thereby hangs the rub. From a purely personal perspective (and this is just my opinion – other readers may disagree) I’d rather be shown what’s happening, instead of being told. The old adage of show, not tell, which traditional publishers continue to adhere to when selecting books to take on, is what propels writing superstars like Stephen King to the pinnacle.
The narrative voice of the book, telling us what was happening, instead of us being shown through Cilla’s eyes and letting us experience her feelings, is particularly prominent in Cilla Beyond. There were many instances of staccato ‘this happened,’ ‘that happened,’ where my mind was screaming out to be shown with a little more graphic description to take me into the heart of the action.
The dialogue was often used purely to move the story along, which, again brings me back to that world, staccato, rather than a more realistic chat.
Having said all that, if you’re looking for well-developed sci-fi escapism which truly opens up new ideas with a rich variety of characters – both human and non-human – I can recommend Extraordinhair as being an enjoyable romp across space and time.

A tale of a woman who works as a cosmetologist. However, she sidesteps other things when she goes freelance and has to be taking care of her clients’ extra needs. Unexpectedly, it caters and opens up to her sexual exploration and engagement with other extraordinary individuals.
Eventually she is recruited to become a spy of an alien race. And by another twist of fate, she mothers an heir of a throne from another realm and becomes a queen!
These and all, are some of the amusing twists and turns. Such a roller coaster life of the main character and such eccentricities as well of the beings she encountered. It is unexpectedly entertaining and humorous!
