Ok, I didn't make it all the way through this book. In fact I only got about half-way, but the reason why I stopped has direct bearing on my rating of this book. The fact of the matter is that in the four days since starting the book I gained back 2.5 of the 5 lbs I'd lost in the last month. Clearly the strategies that Taylor discusses in the book have worked for her, but I have a theory about why they didn't work for me.

The whole principle of the book is that by engaging with food in a creative way, rather than simply obsessing about eating it, Taylor changed her relationship with food into something more positive for her. For me, rather than making me less food driven, having a book and art projects that all centered around food made me think about food a lot more. Therefore I think the utility of this book might depend on one's starting concept of food. If someone were to be ruminating about food all the time to begin with this book might be helpful, but if, like me, someone already has a fairly healthy relationship with food, this book might just start sending you in the other direction.

There were things I did like about this book. The funky art style and quirky humor were appealing, and the information about food appeared accurate in as much as it's consistent with things I've read elsewhere. But those things don't change the fact that the day I stopped reading this book I started losing weight again.

This book is so much fun to read, you will actually get excited about trying to eat healthy food. Janice Taylor's basic premise is that you take the energy you would spend obtaining food, eating it and then feeling bad about how much you ate and turning it into something creative. For instance, one of her suggestions is to take a box of Mac & Cheese and make a shrine to Our Lady of Weight Loss with it. (The directions are in the book.) It's so funny, I think I'm going to have to do it. This book is a wonderfully creative approach to weight loss and it helps make our food and excercise choices seem so much more within reach. Janice Taylor also has an online newsletter which get sent out about the first of every week and it is another way to keep the inspiration going.

I ordered this book from the Library all of four months ago (just came in last week) because the cover art reminded me of my friend Karima (she is a FINE ARTIST!). The art is pretty interesting through out the book, but this book is soooooo light it could fly away. It's not what I thought it would be. I was not impressed with "Rightous Receipes" like "Low fat yogurt and grape nuts mixed together".
Doesn't the author know that my mom invented that circa 1970, plus grape nuts is nothing more that CHICKEN FEED; dressed up in a Post Cereal box.

Janice Taylor's workshop last weekend was incredible. Reading it again means so much more this time. I hear her voice in every page.

I enjoyed this book not necessarily because it changed my outlook on weight loss but because it gave me another tool to use on my journey. The lady forgives us our worst diet transgressions. Maybe that's really just what I needed to help me get back on the wagon when I make a mistake.

I just didn't get it. I think it was supposed to be funny and artistic, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Hello, I am writing this message for the author of this book, Mrs. Janice.

I haven’t read the book, and am talking about the contents but about the title of the book and the cover. So I am not judging the book by its cover, rather judging the cover.

I understand that the intention behind it might have been to be creative, somewhat funny, trying to compel readers to engage in the book.

However, as a catholic, I find it disrespectful, immature, and apalling. I might sound a bit harsh, but as a person who belives that the Lady disrespected is the Mother of God, tender, loving, and compassionate over all of us, this was completely uncalled for.

I am not judging the author, I am judging the action that led to an unnecessary sadness for Our Lady.

Please remember, our God is compassionate and loving, slow to anger, He’s waiting for you to repent. And Our Lady loves you, and will never forsake you.

God bless you and I hope you have an amazing day!

Considering I'm a health coach who soon plans to teach art workshops to help people lose weight, this is right up my alley. There are some useful tips and some motivational quotations, but I found the "healthy" ideas not so healthy. Outdated, actually. Fat in food is not the enemy. We should not be eating low fat and non fat anything. Artificial sweetener is disgusting. Eating healthy fats, traditional fats, are more satiating and we thereby will eat less while ingesting more nutrients. Egg whites and ice milk? Really? No no no! But three stars for motivating with art.

Our Lady of Weight Loss is wise, funny, and overflowing with utterly useful information. A breath of fresh weight loss air, if I say so myself. Feast on OLofWL and lose... Oprah approved, by the way!

This was a quirky, humorous, and creative approach to weight loss. It didn't help me lose pounds, but I lost some negativity for sure.

Not a book to read through but to have on hand. Like the affirmations and prayers as well as the craft projects.
