As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. . . . I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong. - Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln grew up with little more than a second-grade education. His father thought school was a waste of time and wanted young Abe to learn carpentry and farming instead. Even so, Lincoln developed a love of reading so great that he would often walk five miles just to borrow a book. In time, his reading would help to shape a sharp mind, a keen sense of humor, and a kind heart. Lincoln carried these qualities with him from a dirt-floor cabin in Kentucky all the way to the White House. As President, he would fight to keep our country from breaking apart, and he would ultimately free 4,000,000 slaves. However, there would be a price to pay for these triumphs a very high price, indeed.
This was a very short book on Abraham Lincoln. It’s a condensed history book on him but with dialogue. It’s very easy to read with less than 200 pages. It doesn’t feel like a history book at all.
I really liked it and found Abe very likable. He seems like a genuinely nice person. Probably the best politician I’ve ever learned about. Obviously, he’s honest but in a good way. He has banned slavery with the 13th amendment and led us through our civil war. I highly recommend this book to everyone because it’s so easy to read and good to learn about one of our best presidents. I’m going to keep this book so I can teach my children.
"Abraham Lincoln: A giant among presidents" by Savory is one of the good reads that I recommend you to add to your to-read list. Not only does the book narrate comprehensively on Lincoln's whole life, but it also portrays the United States in 1800s and especially the causes and effects of the civil war as well as how the President tackled the war and ended the slavery.
Was a good book that gave you knowledge on Abraham Lincoln. I loved this book because I am so fascinated with Abraham Lincoln and I got to learn even more about him than I already knew. The author made it easy for you to understand and made sense of what happened and why things happened back then.
