Felicity Walker believes in true love. That's why she applies for a gig at the matchmaking company Cupid's Hollow. But when Felicity gets the job, she learns that she isn't just a matchmaker...she's a cupid! (There's more than one of them, you know.)
Armed with a hot pink, tricked-out PDA infused with the latest in cupid magic (love arrows shot through email), Felicity works to meet her quota of successful matches. But the path to love is not always a straight shot...
Rhonda Stapleton started writing a few years ago to appease the voices in her head. She has a Master's degree in English and a Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing. Rhonda lives in Northeast Ohio with her lovely, energetic family and their crazy dogs.
In the twelve minutes of free time she has each day, Rhonda enjoys reading, photography, writing poetry, singing in the shower (and in the car, at work, or basically anywhere that provides oxygen), drinking chai tea, and playing on the Internet (AKA, connecting to the “mother ship”).
This book was really wonderful. *Smiles encouragingly* I really enjoyed every page and I couldn’t stop reading. *Places band-aids on her thousand paper cuts from pages* Felicity’s goofy antics made me smile and her doubts had me concerned. But the thing that I liked most about Felicity is that she admits and understands her flaws!!! Yes, I finally found a good, girl character who understands that sometimes shes completely clueless! This just made my day, made it! To say the least it was pleasing. I also like how she took charge towards the end of the book and asks Absinthia to do a tarot card reading for her. I was proud!
I bought this at the library book sale this fall and found it quite entertaining! There are three books in one. The books are STUPID CUPID, FLIRTING WITH DISASTER and PUCKER UP. Basically, we have a trilogy where the story is continued in the second and third books. I was so glad that it was a trilogy and not separate stories! The protagonist, Felicity Walker, is a good, solid, teenage, female voice with a generous heart. She is enjoyable to read about. This book will put you back into a high school mindset!
This book had a really cute idea, and I loved the whole "cupid" theme. However, the female protagonist was in high school but the whole story had a junior high / very young feel too it. I guess I would classify this book as Middle School/Preteen age and that's not really my thing.
I really liked this book! It talks about a teenager who wants to make sure that everyone has someone right to love. This seems like a modern twist on the classic Cupid story.
This is more like a 2.5. The concept of this book (real-life cupids), and I feel like it had potential that wasn't met. I wasn't the biggest fan of the first book in this bind-up, but I felt like the writing and the plots improved in the next two books. (It's possible I had just lowered my expectations.) The highlight of these books was definitely the friendship between Felicity, Andy, and Maya. I love that the author never let their fights get too out of hand and kept them together throughout all three novels.
This was like reading cotton candy. It's pure sugar without much substance. If that's what you're looking for, then you'll enjoy it. It is definitely YA. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE YA, but I wish this concept had been used in an adult story instead.
Though this book is 700+ pages, don't be scared, it's a fairly fast read. In fact, I was surprised as quickly I got through it.
Felicity needs a job and thinks that she is applying at a matchmaking service like Tinder, etc. But the job she gets is so much more. She is now a cupid (yes, there are more than one). Her assignment - match up the students at her high school. Felicity soon learns this is not as easy as it sounds, especially when emotions, hearts and friends are involved.
There are three stories inside this one book, each one building off the last. If you are looking for a fun, light-hearted read with a feel good ending, this book just might be for you.
I really loved this book. It was such a sweet romance. I read the third book in one day. I just couldn't put it down. I started to care about the characters right away. I loved the authors writing and I found what the main character said to be funny. Very enjoyable read.
I bought this book without knowing anything about it. I love romance and thought I’d really enjoy this story. I think the romance between Felicity and Derek was cute. But I actually cared more about the friendship between Andy,Maya and Felicity. This was a fun read, but wont reread again.
The prose wasn't strong, but the story was cute. Yes, it's YA, but so are HP and The Hunger Games. Both of which had strong prose to match the good story.
*Struck is a compilation of the three books in Rhonda Stapleton's Stupid Cupid series. I am only reviewing the first book in the series, Stupid Cupid. *
I wanted this book to be great. I loved the idea of a teenage cupid who uses a hot pink PDA to make love matches. While the idea was good, the execution was, for me, lacking. Felicity was a likable main character, she's a good friend to her besties Maya and Andy and handles her job as a teenage cupid without too many mishaps despite not following the Cupid rule book. However, none of the characters in the book had much depth to them and I had a hard time connecting with characters in the book. This is a YA book that is on the "younger" spectrum of things, which may have been why I wasn't compelled to read the other two books in the series. I would have loved for the cupid element to be more fleshed out and I would have liked to have learned more about Felicity's employer Janet who ran the cupid agency. There were a few funny moments, but if you want depth this book isn't for you. Overall this is a light, fluffy read that could have benefited from more detail and depth in the characters and story line.
First of all, I literally would like to slap the main character/narrator in the face. 'Felicity' is so God damn annoying and whiney and all of the characters are SO cliche! The vocabulary of the characters drive me insane, too. "Totes" "Gossip sesh!" "Nosh!" "Divalicious!" I'm vomiting just recalling the tween cliche cheesy lingo the author used on every page.
This book was so long and from the first chapter of the first book in this book of three books I already knew the WHOLE PLOT. I called the whole ending from the first page of book one! Honestly, this book is one of the worst books I've read, it was around 800 pages of bubble gum trash. Don't read this unless you're a "totes divalicious cool cat"!
This whole book made me frustrated. The language the author used gave all the conversations an unnatural feel. The main character was so oblivious to the many many cliche mistakes she made for such a long time I just wanted to shake her and say "Get a grip for goodness's sake!". The plot is extremely predictable. In general, this book was a literary disaster. The only reason I gave it two stars was because I eventually found myself perceiving the entire novel as a joke and it's utter ridiculousness was rather amusing. Seven hundred pages of this? This whole plot could fit into a ten page picture book..
This book was what I needed after reading lots of paranormal books with lots of drama and romance. It is funny, sweet and easy to read. I finished it after only two days!
Omigod, this book was so funny! I haven’t laughed so hard about high school since American Pie. Yeah, I’m dating myself with this. But hey, it’s better than no dates at all, right? If you like to laugh and swoon, you have to read this book.
14/08/12 - about halfway through stupid cupid and I'm finding it a bit slow and can't really get into it. I'm going to stick with it and hope it improves but I'm quickly becoming a bit bored!
This is a bind-up of three absolutely hilarious teen rom-coms. have you ever wondered what it would be like to get a job as cupid? I must admit I never have, but now I want to! LOL
I read this book at least 6 times. One of my all out favorite books i have ever read. Struck is a really good book to read whenever. Struck is a must read book.
