These widespread gems of nature live just about everywhere, from woods to towns to cities. The gray squirrel, the most common kind, builds its home—called a drey—high up in trees. The home is built of twigs and feathers and dry grass, so it's soft and warm inside. The mother squirrel's hairless, blind babies—called kits—are born in the drey. There, they spend seven weeks before venturing outside. Readers will see how the cute little kits learn what to eat, from the tastiest nuts and seeds to the yummiest flowers and plants, and how they eventually learn to live on their own. Clear, simple text and gorgeous pictures are sure to delight emergent readers in this coming-of-age introduction to squirrel kits.

O.K., so you know what's weird? Is that the only place where they don't have squirrels in the world is in Africa, in the EXACT SAME PLACE where naked mole rats are! THAT is so weird. But enough about naked mole rats. We're here to talk about squirrels and this one is about baby squirrels. They're called squirrel kits which sounds kind of like kids and kind of like kittens, and also like you might BUILD one. And these guys are really cute! And their book has lots of good facts in it. AND it was easy! You know, that makes sense. It's about squirrel babies, and so babies should be able to READ it. Squirrels drink milk and eat nuts and they live in messy nests. And I've seen those nests. They're way up high in trees but you can't see them in the summer. So be careful when you walk under them because it's like in "Mutts." Squirrels like to bonk people on the head with nuts. I like fact books with dictionaries [word lists] at the end because then you can remember what the heck they were talking about. Like those nests are called dreys. Now I remember that! This is a real good one like all fact books about baby animals.
