When it was clear that my daughter Lueza had sustained a massive brain injury during her birth I started spending time in bookstores looking for information on kids and brain damage. What might happen? How did you live knowing that your child had been injured during her birth? How would she live?
And I found this extraordinary book by Thomas Bergman.
A simple book of photos and writing about a young child named Mathias who has cerebral palsy.
It shows pictures from his life with his family.
It shows him having physical therapy and participating in sports.
It is full of joy.
This book helped me to live when I was so terrified about my daughter's life and would would happen to her and us.
This book gave me the hope that Lueza could have a wonderful life.
