In Gunsmore, Oklahoma, Vincent Martinelli sold formal apparel as a front for dealing drugs, until he was killed when someone burned down his mansion. Was the arsonist the same vigilante who had been killing other local men guilty of serious sins? Iris Dittmeyer is worried that the murderer might be someone she knows---e.g., her friend Dot.

While the police investigate the case, Iris gets involved in another one. At a new black history museum in Tulsa, an important historical document on loan from the Smithsonian is stolen. A white supremacist group is suspected, and Iris faces harassment from this group when she confronts its leader about the theft. Meanwhile, she continues to struggle to move on after the death of her husband.

As the series proceeds, suspense continues to build. Who will the vigilante turn out to be?
