My background in Pilates is not much, I've been working out with videos for over 10 years, but have never seen a pilates instructor. I bought this book because I like to do pilates in the morning to wake up my body and I compete with my son for the tv (morning cartoons vs. pilates video). Cathleen's intro is for the person who always works out in the morning (not me), but the book itself is put together quite well for any person, at any time of the day, at any level of pilates experience.

I was relieved to know that I was doing the exercises and breathing correctly (which I really struggled with because the breathing is almost the exact opposite that I was trained to do for years as a brass player) after years of doing this without a pilates instructor. In the past I've struggled with a lot of lower back, neck, and hip pain in the years and my doctors have not really been able to figure it out. Turns out, I have a posterior pelvic tilt, Cathleen explains what type of exercises can help to correct this and alleviate the pain. I have noticed that pilates in the past has helped my hips, I guess I should've put two and two together back then.
