We face a long-term structural crisis in how we understand our world. Lee argues that both knowledge and its structures form an inseparable whole, which governs what actions people will take. This book is a crucial step towards solving the structural crisis and helping us imagine and evaluate our possible futures.
I read this for my Study of the World-System class during the cultural theories week and I quite enjoyed it. It's always a bit awkward when a professor assigns his own book to read, but Richard was really nice about it and maintained his sense of humor about it. The book itself was a helpful tool for understanding how cultural studies can be integrated into thinking about world-systems analysis, and was well-written too, which is quite a thing to be happy about when you're reading sociological theory monographs.
