But when Donatelli catches wind of the tryst, he's determined to clean house, with Nate the first on his To-Off List. Gwenna knows she hit the jackpot with Nate and won't let anyone stand in the way. Gwenna is the Eeyore of the vampire world. Everything bad has happened to her, and the bad things just keep coming. Now, she is involved in a murder-mystery.

Well, her tears are bloody, so she would probably just attract sharks...

The good news is that Gwenna meets a hottie cop during the police investigation. The bad news: her ex-husband kills the guy.

Well, it could have been her that got killed. That would be worse, right? ...meh..

And then, to make things worse, there are those who are trying to kill HER! Why her?

Well, there's that...

But, don't worry, Gwenna and her dead boyfriend get their HEA. And, this series is over and I'm pretty much fine with that. Goodbye mediocre vampire series!

Bye, Eeyore!

This was the final book in the series, I think, and it was another winner. But I have to admit that this series could definitely continue, as it really didn't finish things up.
A lot of unanswered questions.
I really enjoyed each of the stories, this was Gweena and Nate's story and I really liked Nate, for a mortal he was pretty cool, and handsome and hot.
Highly recommend.

already the weakest of this series but this book crams in its last act that there is a long haired bishounen vampire rock band with fanatically dedicated human groupies who are trained vampire SLAYERS on a FORUM and are THROWING AN INSANE BLOOD RAGER TO KILL VAMPIRES IN THE CONFUSION. and we learn all this through exposition and do not get to meet any of them or have anything happen in scene because it’s just like the haha funny wrap up to the mystery while the romance settles down and it ends abruptly. And they’re infringing on my copyright just to fuck with me.

Fourth in the Vegas Vampires paranormal romance series based in Vegas and revolving around Ethan Carrick and the people, I mean, vampires, he loves.

My Take
It's a fun and fluffy beach read about a woman finally coming into her own...after 900 years. Shaking loose the eleventh-century morality she grew up with, Gwenna takes matters into her own hands and finally tells Roberto exactly what she thinks. And about the daughter he never knew.

The Story
Gwenna is spreading her wings and exploring this new world on the assumption that she and her ex could co-exist in the same town. Not. Sure, Gwenna is having fun with the online slayers' group she joined. She's even going to meet up with one of them, Slash, later.

A later that turns into a dead body and a very sexy detective, Nate Thomas with whom Gwenna proceeds to get very hands-on with the hot detective even as the bodies start piling up everywhere she goes. The one plus in Gwenna's life is Nate. Seeing him. Making love with him. Now if Roberto would just back off.

The Characters
Gwenna Carrick is Ethan's very-sheltered sister who has been divorced from the extremely controlling Roberto Donatelli for 300 years. I can't believe it's taken her 600 years to figure out the guy is an A #1 asshole! Ethan Carrick has a bit part while his wife, Alexis, appears more often and definitely in support of her sister-in-law. Brittany and Corbin Atelier have their baby, Ava, and Brittany is slowly allowing her father to be a part of her life.

Nate Thomas is the detective assigned to the first murder at the metro station. He is a bit conflicted over Gwenna's appearing at every succeeding crime scene and that he's falling in love with her.

Ringo and Kelsey Columbia have their roles to play. Ringo is messing up his life big time and Kelsey has about had it. She's getting over it by insisting that Alexis and Gwenna come with her to a rock concert—she knows the band—and she makes Gwenna wear what Gwen refers to as a napkin. But, hey, it's in blue which looks good on G! Sasha Chechikov plays a pretty big role---what a bitch! The band is one that Kelsey knew back in the 1960s: David Foster, Drake, and Pete.

The Cover
The cover is a cartoonish effect of a sexy blonde wearing enormous hoop earrings, a gold cross around her neck and a flirty red slip dress throwing vampiric dice on a hearts-garlic-bat decorated craps table while four bats fly up. Perfectly consistent with the feel of the story.

What an awesome 4th installment. A lot of times the more you read of a series you get a little bored. This book wasn't in anyway boring. It was laugh out loud funny at times, has some pretty awesome steamy scenes and then action. I love that you get to see what the other characters are doing as well. Erin McCarthy is such an amazing author. I am also reading her Fast Track series and WOW. She knows how to keep her audience hooked.
In the 4th book Sucker Bet you learn more about 900yr old vampire Gwenna Carrick aka the president of the vampire nations sister and ex wife to Roberto Donitelli. She has been living a very sheltered life and is now ready to gain a backbone and stand up for herself and have a little adventure, but when she finds a dead body she meets sexy detective Nate Thomas. After battling with her past emotions and her ways of living she finds that adventure and life shes been looking for.
A must read by Erin....I only wish she could keep this series going!!

This was a much needed improvment from book 3. I liked Gwenna and Imust say her and Nate were pretty much on fire if you know what I mean. But yet again there are some things I wish had been diffrent. The issues Gwenna had with Dona-freaking-telli got on my nerves. I wanted so badly for her realize how she was hold herself back with these issues and how much and terrible person he was. Then There was Kelsey the idiot with the crumby boyfriend turned husband. I think in this book you got a better glimps of what she see's but still not my favorite guy. oh and seriously what was with the Slayers? I mean there was kind of a build up and then it was fluffed out like the author decided oh well no I don't like that story line blahh its out and that was very dissapointing.

I've read two other Contemporary Romance books from Erin MaCarthy and enjoyed them very much. So I decided to try reading her Paranormal Romance book. It is the 4th and last book in the series - "A Tale of Vegas Vampires." Not sure if you need to read the books in order but I didn't find that I was missing out by not reading the other books first. This story is about a vampire named Gwenna Carrick who meets a detective named Nate. She is found at a crime scene of with a dead body and Nate is the detective that is trying to solve the murder. Someone is killing these members that are in an online group called The Slayer Loop. On top of the murders happening Gwenna's ex-husband Donatelli is a mobster trying to win her back. Unfortunately this just wasn't a hit with me. I didn't feel the connection or romance between Gwenna and Nate. It took me longer to finish this book cause I just couldn't get into it. Once the killer was revealed I had already lost interest in the book. Unfortunately I won't be reading anymore of her Paranormal Romance for me.

I've been waiting forever to find Sucker Bet used and it was well worth the wait. I think that this is the final book in the Vegas Vampire series and I really liked both of the leads vamp Gwenna Carrick - the delicate sheltered sister of vamp president Ethan and ex-wife to mafiaso-like vamp Roberto Donatelli- and human cop Nate Thomas.

Sucker bet was a very steamy addition to the series. Gwenna and Nate get hot and heavy quickly and often but still manage to make an emotional connection in between all the steamy stuff so that there is some romance and not just lust. Obstacles are thrown in their way: her possessive ex, Nate's working on solving a series of murders and the fact that Gwenna's always around where the bodies turn up makes her a potential suspect, and then there's the whole bloodsucking thing Gwenna's hiding -Gwenna and Nate are both such 'nice' and likable characters that you can't help but root for them to find their way to a HEA. (rah!)

I saw that every book in this series followed a different couple so I thought that this could be read as a standalone. While I think it CAN, I don’t think it should. I didn’t read the previous 3 and it definitely felt like I was missing parts of the story.

The POV changes a lot, and there are times that some of them just seemed… unnecessary. There was a lot going on, and despite this being the final book in the series, a couple things felt unfinished.

The romance was fine. Very insta-lust and insta-love. I didn’t care for all of the sex scenes. I personally don’t feel like “that’s really very pleasant” is a very sexy reaction to nips being pleasured, but maybe that’s just me.

I won’t be reading the other books in this series, and am unlikely to search for more to read by this author.

This was the end of the series (as far as I'm aware) and it ended on the same note as the first book began on. Lighthearted comedy with interesting and quirky characters combined with some hot and sexy scenes. Perfect for me!! I like that Mccarthy can be funny and write entertaining characters without trying too hard. When I find myself giggling aloud at a book, that's awesome and I found myself doing that a lot throughout this series. I would recommend these books to anyone who enjoys lighthearted PNR books that are not steeped in tragic and battle drawn scenes.

Really enjoyable. Vampires in Las Vegas, which seems to be a familiar setting these days. A rich, sheltered vampire girl falls for a mortal police detective who's investigating a series of murders that seem to be connected to her.

Characters extremely likeable. Part of a series but the side characters were easy enough to keep up with their relationships. Ms. McCarthy does a good job of keeping all those storylines together. And still the main one was compelling.

I enjoyed this series, but was shocked when I went to the author's website to hear the series was complete. This book did not end like the end of a series normally does. Maybe I am missing a short story wrap-up. I shall do more research! But, I enjoyed the Vegas Vampires series!

>> Romance of Gwenna and Nate. Added with a little jealousy from Donatelli.

This book is probaly my favorite so far out of this series. The romance is just undescribable. When I first read the summary of this book I just thought it'd be about romance and jealousy. However, Erin had me wrong. Theres full mystery, action, love, and twists.

Five stars!!

Funny/Random Momments?.. Ha Ha Ha Ha
1. When Nate was found naked by a worker at the spa room(she screamed and called in this old co-worker who checked him out).
2. How Gwenna had to wear about no-clothing to the concert b/c of Kelsey.
3. Kelsey's way of 'flirting' at the concert.

Guess What? What? Kyle is back! Remember in the last book(if you've read it) how Ringo saw Kyle for one brief moment and thought he was dreaming? Well,it turns out hes not hallucinating! :)

Slash87(David): something comparable to VP in the slayers' loop, emailed Gwenna to meet him by a ticket booth(where there was a crime scene) and later emailed her to inform her the slayers' loop will be at The Impalers concert.

Pete: stage manager, was getting a bag of blood for Alexis while she was backstage when finding a dead body in the closet.

Andrew Fletcher(victim #1): twenty-one years old,the guy who Gwenna found dead/drained full of blood and stuffed behind a ticket booth like a pretzel, spent alot of time online at a slayers' loop(online name was 'Buzzdrew').

Johnny Walker(victim #2): member of slayers' loop as 'Death Angel', white guy in his twenties, was found backstage at the Impalers concert folded up like an origami crane in a storage closet.

Gregor Chechikov(victim #3): a Russian vampire-who-turned-back-to-mortal,had some Russian Mafia connections and got caught in a sweep in New York ten years ago,had used Gwenna once as a bargaining chip with Roberto(in the last book),a big fourty-yr-old man,was found dead right out in the open- tossed into a lounge chair by the pool at the Ava hotel.

This was a great finish to a really fun little series. Alright, there are three novellas which follow it chronologically, but I read them before reading the full length novella, and they don’t really add to the greater storyline. However, Sucker Bet does and it provides some much needed answers to the political and social intrigues which are peppered throughout the four main novels.

Alexis, Cara and Brittany are all very strong and independent women. Ones who not only know what they want from life, but also know what they don’t want. And who they don’t think they want. Gwenna on the other hand is much softer, subtler and a little more lost. She has a far longer history than the three mortal women and, because of this, more hang ups than they have. Which all made her a great lead to finish the series with. She was something different and unique in a series that is full of unique takes on the vampire romance subgenre.

I loved that although Gwenna is a little lost and unsure of what to do with her life, she is also sure of what she doesn’t want. And honestly, some people can’t even quite figure that out… that alone takes a strength of will. She also realises what a great catch of a man she has from the very beginning. She may be unsure of where they stand with each other, but she doesn’t hesitate to find a way to be happy with an incredibly hot human being… something that none of her counterparts in this series were capable of doing. Which is probably why I loved her so much and so quickly.

This was a great way to tie up the political intrigue and battles which have been an undertow and obstacle in all of the stories in this series. It finally removes Donatelli’s annoying influence from the lives of the characters I’ve come to love and made him realise just what he has lost. A bit of poetic justice that didn’t involve blood or death at the closing of the pages as the four main couples finally ride off happily ever after into the sunset. Plus, you finally get to find out why Kelsey calls Ringo Kyle all the time.

Much better than the others in this series. Gwenna finds a murder victim and meets Nate. They bond after running into each other again after Nate's sister died and trying to solve the murders.

I was bored. Gwenna was boring. 900 years old and JUST NOW IS GROWING A BACKBONE. Annoying. And her weirdly obsessive ex-husband? Creepy. And his ONLY reason for stopping his harassment? The new knowledge of their dead kid. At the end of the book.

Gwenna is 900 years old, and she recently moved to Las Vegas, to her brother’s hotel after living alone in a deserted Welsh castle for 300 years since her divorce. She enjoys computers and modern things, but she is still shy, and that will have to change. She is tired of being controlled by men, her brother and her ex-husband, and wants a new life for herself. She has become a member of the Slayers loop on the internet, since her sister in law Alexis told her about it. She still thinks they form a serious treat to the vampires, even though Ethan doesn’t believe that. So she has been trying to find out their real identities, and plans. Meeting up with one of the main players sounds like a good plan, especially as she is hard to kill being a vampire. What she does not count on, is discovering a dead body at the meeting place, and becoming the police’s main suspect. She knows the man has been killed by a vampire, as he is totally drained of blood. But she can’t tell the police detective that, now can she.
When she meets up with him that night in the hospital, they share a connection. Brittany has given birth to a beautiful baby daughter, with a long list of names. But Detective Nate Thomas has just lost his sister to leukemia. He is devastated by the loss, and as his parents are abroad, he will have to take care of all the arrangements. He is not looking forward about. So when he meets his beautiful suspect again, and she asks him for a cup of coffee, he agrees. He does not want to be along or go home just yet. And when she tells him of her own loss, her own daughter, they connect.

Gwenna takes him to the Ava with her, to find a quiet place to talk some more. But soon they end up having sex against the wall, something she has never experienced before, but decides she quite likes it. She likes not being treated as if she was made of porcelain, but someone to be desired. When the guards come upon them, she is mortified, but when Nate does not want to let her leave just jet, they continue their evening together. Until Alexis calls her, needing her help consoling Kelsey. Apparently, she has left her husband for good this time, when he tried to sell her services to other vampires. Gwenna feels horrible leaving Nate behind, but she thinks she will be back before he wakes up.

The only thing that consoles Kelsey is the promise that Alexis and Gwenna will join her tomorrow evening for the concert she is going to. A band pretending to be vampires for their fans, but who are vampires in reality. And Kelsey knows them personally.

Roberto Donatelli wants his ex-wife back, she is his. And Gwenna standing up to him is something he really cannot appreciate. Of course, wanting her back does not give him up other women at all. Nor does he give a thing about her wants or opinions. He needs her on his arm for the next political party. So he really won’t take no for an answer. But Gwenna stands him up, just to be with Nate at his sisters wake. Donatelli is not amused, and has one of his goons follow her around. And when he finds out, she has had sex with Nate, he decides to have him killed. That will teach Gwenna a lesson. If he can’t have her, no one will.
In the meantime, more bodies are found at places that Gwenna has been, and they will have to find this killer fast.

I was totally surprised by the mystery part of this book, and loved it. I enjoyed how Gwenna became her own woman, how she stood up to her ex husband and her brother, and did her own thing. Nate encourages her to get a job, to do something useful with her life, and I liked that about him. He is a cop and sees the world in white and black, and he is good at his job. So finding out that vampires are real, really threw him for a loop. But he is in love with Gwenna, and he knows it. And after a little time of being stupid the way only men can be stupid when in love, he wakes up, and knows what he wants and tells Gwenna that. Lovely scene. And I loved it when Gwenna told him how she felt about it all. Go Gwenna!

I think that from the whole series, this is my favourite book. Now I do wonder, will there ever be a fifth book, where Roberto finds his match and reforms? And what will happen with Ringo and Kelsey, and his dead brother Kyle. Is he really a ghost Kelsey can see? Or did I imagine that part?

9 stars.

When the hero first meets the heroine he think her to be a dumb blonde. But in fact she's just trying to cover her tracks. As a vampire, she's lived over 900 years but spent 300 of those years locked up in a castle after suffering a breakdown over the death of her daughter. She went to meet a man in a train stain after talking to him online when she meets the hero, a detective, who's called to a murder in said train station. They go their separate ways until meeting again in the hospital. She's there to visit her friend who's just had a baby, he's there after the death of his sister to cancer. It was two people meeting in life, both needing desperately the company of the other. From there they develop an easy bond. The heroine is there for him throughout his mourning and he in turn gives her a purpose in her otherwise dull and meaningless life. I was shocked by how much I loved this book as I don't quite remember being overly fond of the other books in the series. But this was amazing. The heroine was lost in this new world. She lives in the casino hotel owned by her brother who pays for her living and expenses. She's begun to be bitter over the fact that she has zero control in her life but she thinks she's incapable of living in this modern world by herself. Other than her abilities with computers she's got no job experience. And her scum of an ex husband is still hounding her 300 years after their divorce. The hero is barely holding it together. Spending a crazy amount of hours on the job looking into these murders, and dealing with the loss of his sister, most scenes-at least when he had time to himself- he was trying desperately not to cry. I actually would have liked to see him cry as he never once broke down and let the walls down. He was such a damn man about it but that was something that drew me to him. It was like the hero and heroine were destined for each other but not in a paranormal sense, just that they met each other in the lowest part of their lives and found kinship with one another. The chemistry was off the charts and though the sex was explicit and very erotic, you always felt love between them even before they realized it themselves. From the cover you'd expect a humorous paranormal contemporary romance but it was so much deep than that. It makes me want to re-read the other books-maybe I didn't give them a far shot if the author can deliver such amazing work.

I really really wanted to like this book because I really like some of Erin McCarthy's other work . I was disappointed with the previous book in this series, so I was hoping this one would be an improvement. I'm happy to say it was an improvement over Bled Dry, but it was still not up to par with a lot of her previous work. There were some good things, I really like the storyline with the main characters Gwenna and Nate, it was a sweet, cute, happily ever after, with a little mystery thrown in. But some of the secondary characters are just ridiculous. How is it possible that after 900 years of life as a vampire Gwenna just finally realizes that her ex Donatelli is a complete asshole. I mean seriously the guy got her pregnant and then she didn't hear from him for 300 years, but the next time she see's him she marries him anyway. Then stays married to him for another 300 years, all the while he emotionally abuses her and cheats. Then when she finally works up the nerve to divorce him, she lets him continue to harass her for yet another 300 years. And she still defends him to her brother and refuses to be believe he is capable of any real wrongdoing (even though she secretly knows he's a criminal) I was seriously starting to think she deserved him. Then we have Kelsey and Ringo. Ringo has absolutely no redeemable qualities. Point Blank. Period. This is the fourth book in the series, and he has not become a better person at all. And poor idiot Kelsey (who is supposedly not really an idiot at all) just stands there and takes it. I was so happy when she finally leaves him, only to fall right back into frustrated disappointment when she goes back to him at the end of the book. Through out the series we have seen Ringo murder, kidnap, steal, take illegal drugs, and the guy even tried to prostitute his own wife in exchange for drugs. Are you serious? Ringo should have been killed off in the first book of the series it would have saved a lot of space and made for some seriously happier reading. I really just do not like the character and I don't understand his purpose in this series any longer. I see there are three more novellas in this series. I don't know if I will be reading them, because I honestly can not take anymore of the Ringo Kelsey stupidity.

Gwenna Carrick just wants to move on with her life. After all she’s been divorced from her controlling vampire husband, Roberto Donatelli, for 300 years. You would think a man would move on by now! Gwenna is a 900-year-old vampire but she tries to keep her blood sucking ways a secret from mortals. Gwenna is part of a Vampire Slayers’ loop online who are determined to kill as many vampires as possible. Gwenna enjoys having her ears open to her enemies and what better way then for her, a vampire, to infiltrate their group. When she hears that the vampire slayers plan on meeting in Las Vegas, where she lives, she tries to work out a meeting between one of the guys and herself.

Gwenna shows up at the meeting place but when she arrives she finds a dead body drained of all his blood. This looks suspiciously like a vampire has killed him, but Gwenna isn’t sure. The Homicide Detective investigating the case is Nate Thomas, a very sexy mortal. Sparks start to fly between Nate and Gwenna, which is a dangerous thing when you are trying to hide the fact that you’re a vampire from a cop!

As the bodies pile up, drained of fluid, Nate and Gwenna investigate the case together. How will she keep her secret and stop a killer without letting Nate know of her true identity? Will Nate still like Gwenna if he finds out she’s a vampire or will she loose him forever with her lies?

SUCKER BET is the fourth book in Erin McCarthy’s Vegas Vampires series. This is a very entertaining story that has a little bit of everything in it. There’s romance, mystery, humor, suspense, and of course blood sucking vampires! The love story between Nate and Gwenna is really romantic and you can’t help but root for a happy ending. The writing is smooth and flows very nicely. I loved every word of this book and I hope there’s more coming in this wonderful series.

I was hoping that this book would be focused on Kelsey. She's had an ongoing story through the previous three, and I do think she and Ringo had potential. They have a lot of problems that would be interesting to read more about it, but instead this one is about Gwenna, Ethan's sister. We don't know much about her other than she's been living alone in a castle for hundreds of years after her three century marriage to Donatelli. Now she's starting to let go and live life. She even starts up a hot affair with Detective Nate Thomas!

This one is a bit different than the others, in that there's an actual mystery to solve! Complete with dead bodies, sexy detectives, suspicious foreign women, and vampire slayers! While it's a quite morbid plot, I still had fun trying to figure out who was behind it all and why. I never figured it out until the very end, and there's a bunch of twists and connections along the way that I wasn't expecting.

We do get some of Ringo and Kelsey, and they're just as screwed up as ever! I definitely wish there had been more, since they're problems range from serious to silly. Their connection to the murders was unexpected. The vampire world sure is small.

Anyway, the focus was on Gwenna and Nate, two people who have gone through hell. Gwenna is still grieving her daughter after 900, and Nate loses his sister at the beginning of the book. They happen to meet when a Gwenna finds the first dead body, and soon enough they find comfort in each other's arms (and other places). I really liked these two together, and I said it before but I'll say it again, the author sure does write some steamy sex scenes!

I enjoyed this one a lot. Maybe not as much as Bled Dry but it was still a good addition to the series. I just found out that there's two more books, so I'm going to need to hunt those down!
