things are getting real now. the main antagonist (a gay preist) actually started directly doing things to try and stop jolyne, the same gay priest is also looking for an invincible plant baby, foo fighters almost died, jolyne almost died... annasui almost died... of course none of them die yet because araki is most likely saving their deaths for toward the end, because that is when it would be most tragic

shit is getting REAL fuck that weird ass yo yo ma... uhhh DIO BABY??? and i still have no FUCKING idea how anasui's stand works like.. fuck yeah! whatever happens happens! also please someone give ff some WATER thanks <3
You know, I was initially bothered by the bone and the baby. It felt like things didn't make sense or have an underlying logic- as if stuff just kind of happened. So I did some research to see if other readers had the same issue and came across an interpretation that helped everything to click for me. Basically, it explained how the process had roots in alchemy. With Pucci's desire to attain Azoth (or god/heaven/philosopher's stone in alchemy), he has taken both routes. He pursues both honing his spirit and crafting it artificially, which are said to be the two ways to reach god.
I think it would have helped if Pucci had made direct reference to this stuff. The way it was portrayed also could have been clearer. I saw the bone as just being a bone, but I think I would've gotten more out of this if I had been encouraged as a reader to consider that a piece of Dio's spirit resides in that bone. Similarly, I wish the ceremony with the trees and baby had a more direct connection between the organic or spiritual material of the prisoners and the green baby. Apparantly the baby is based on the alchemical homonculus. Equivalent exchange, right? As it is now, it just seems like things are randomly happening without the real life alchemy to provide context or an in universe reasoning. You don't have to spell it all out- just give me enough so that I can follow along. I'll meet ya more than half way, Araki! This stuff is interesting and he seems to enjoy educating his readers about real life. This could've been a great chance to do that.
Regardless, I had a lot of volume. The end of Yo Yo Ma was fittingly comedic. The scenes with Foo Fighters and Pucci were really intense. I enjoy how we have both the scene with the baby and the scene with Pucci playing out simultaneously. Shit is hitting the fan for both squads. Foo Fighters has proven herself as a badass, with some killer panels. The way Pucci slowly approaches from the shadows while counting is ominous.
The chapter where Foo Fighters' explains the values of her memories. She feels that this is what separates humans from animals. It's interesting to see a character reflect like that. Similarly, the paradox of the baby's stand was super cool. That sort of thing is neat to think about in the abstract. But having characters deal with it in a very practical sense is the sort of thing I haven't seen anywhere else.
My complaints about Annasui still remain though. Ever since he's shown up, it feels as though Jolyne has sort of faded into the background. All of a sudden she's just jumping into things blind while he is the one standing back, figuring things out, and pulling out the win. It's annoying, because the stuff Jolyne has come up with has been much more interesting. It also makes no sense how the baby's stand got into the bottle.
I've complained a lot in this review, but I am enjoying Stone Ocean. This volume is kind of a cross section of the series, with some comedy, some clever puzzles, and some cool action. I'm excited to see what comes next.

NOT FOO FIGHTERS Y’ALL. i don’t know if this is the end of them or not but i am so worried. they are my fav i love them so. i loved hearing their perspective on their memories after jolyne and ermes came into their life and it was just so so moving. i am now very scared to read the next volume
also jolyne with the green child is ADORABLE. and the pucci reveal!! it is really heating up
What does Annasui go through for Jolyne's sake?! I've grown to love him so much from this volume. Also the baby reborn from Dio's bone sure gives off Voldemord Horcruxes vibes...as it turns out, Harry potter is a jojo reference as well
