Meet Skye Jones, newly created vampire and mind reader. Immortal and all-powerful, right? Well, not so much.
Before Skye even has a chance to test out her new fangs, she’s on the run from assassins sent by a powerful vampire who fears Skye has read her mind and learned her secrets. If only she had!
But Skye isn’t going down without a fight and she thinks may have found a way to stop the attacks for good. How do you fight a powerful, ancient vampire? With another powerful, ancient vampire, of course!
What happens next? Murder, mayhem and a mind-controlling scepter. Dark elves, dark nights and dark desires. Two dangerously hot men: one human, one vampire. For reasons she doesn’t understand, the vampire Gabriel is temptation incarnate for her. But what about Ryan, the new human in her life? Who to choose? Who to trust?
In the vampire world it’s a fine line between love and death. Sometimes all that separates them is a BITE.
OK, could be a lot better but not outright terrible
This book is confusing at times, fast-paced with a bit of a questionable time line , full of grammatical errors that made me cringe at every turn, and overall just a poor executed plot.
This story gallops along, with no stream-of-consciousness, no reflective indulgence, just pure action from start to finish. It is the very definition of a page-turner.
Skye has barely adjusted to her new life as a vampire, when she discovers that she has an additional, and very useful ability, not expected and not welcomed by a certain member of the Council. As a consequence, this ancient Council member, afraid that Skye has acquired a secret knowledge she’s not supposed to have, issues a ‘death warrant’ – and Skye is then pursued mercilessly by one assassin after another, all determined to remove this young woman for a secret she doesn’t actually possess.
Skye is on the run, constantly fighting to survive – an existence which makes her a somewhat irritable and temperamental young woman with little patience for anyone – but when she has to fight day-by-day to survive, it’s hardly surprising that she has a rather sarcastic and untrusting attitude.
Enter Ryan, a sympathetic character who understands the nature of the vampire world, has his own grief to deal with, and yet remains throughout, the most patient and understanding partner. An attraction between the two becomes a bond on which Skye finds herself relying more and more. But in order for Skye to fight back against the mercenaries sent to kill her, she must enlist the help of a powerful ancient: Gabriel. And Gabriel is a distraction and attraction that our heroine finds difficult to resist.
The questions posed, can Gabriel be trusted? Can Ryan? And who is her best ally?
This is a compulsive read where the suspense never lets up. There are a few twists on the traditional vamp characteristics, and a pleasant surprise that the story is dismissive of genre-clichés. Although the story ends on a cliff-hanger, it still manages to stand alone as a complete story. Which is to say that the hanger is just an opening for the follow-up book, which I am very much looking forward to reading.
Heather Litteral has created a funny, warm and loyal heroine in Skye Jones, a recently turned vampire with a special gift. Skye can read minds, and her 'gift' has made her a target for one of the Vampire Council members, keeping her on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of true death.
Skye has a conscience, too! She tries to drink only from the dregs of the earth. When she ends up in Loiusville, she gets entangled in a race to find an ancient vampire relic with strong powers, trying to discover who is killing vamps, murderous dark elves, one totally hot and loveable human, and one powerful, equally attractive Vampire Council member.
This is one of those books that sneaks up on you and won't let you go until the end, leaving you wanting more of this fun, not too heavy read!
Skye is so likeable, so funny at times, down-to-Earth at times, and over the top at times, willing to risk herself for those around her. She isn't all-powerful, has limitations, brains, and best of all, loyalty to those around her.
Ryan, the human meets Skye when he saves her. Fortunately, he had a sister who was a vampire and accepts Skye right away! There is a building romantic tension between them that starts out subtle, and builds in all directions.
Gabriel, a new member of the Vampire Council, is old and powerful, sometimes a little bossy and arrogant, but isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and jumps right into the middle of danger! Skye's 'Skyeness' intrigues him. Again, there is a slow, budding attraction between Gabriel and Skye. Now we have the love triangle angle, Skye's confusion as to her feelings And the bad guys to defeat, all while finding the scepter!
I received this book as a free kindle download from Book Basset on Amazon. It is a very good book. It has you turning the pages and before you know it the book is done and you are wanting more!! Sure hope that there is a follow up to this books so that we can see what happens to Skye, Ryan and Gabriel. The book starts off with Skye being a fairly new vamp with special mind reading powers - she is being hunted by someone from the council- they want her DEAD!! In the process she gets tangles up with a human by the name of Ryan who helps her along the way. Then there's Gabriel one of the High council members that is trying to help her get her life back. You must read this book. There are so many twist and turns in the book - you never know who is the bad guy or vamp. To me this book was a fast read . And an excellent book - you could actually see the characters that the author wrote about.
This was a surprising little gem of a story with a surprisingly well developed plot. There is a lot of room for a potential series here. I enjoyed the characters and the writing (only a couple of typos that didn't disturb the flow of reading). Skye is a vampire that has been running from assassins, the plot is well thought out and not too complex, but it keeps you reading to see what will happen next. I like this author and will definitely be looking out for other books by her. This book is reasonably priced and a fun read.
What a great first effort. Skye is tough, caring, and likable, the cast of supporting characters is colorful and fun, and the action never stops. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I'm assuming this is the first in a series. This is one of those books that sneaks up on you and won't let you go until the end, leaving you wanting more of this fun, not too heavy read! Next book please!!!!!!!!
Bite was a very pleasant surprise, it is really one of those cases of 'don't judge a book by it's cover' because what you find inside this cover is so much more than expected. Skye Jones is a wonderful character, the story is well thought and the book is really well written, this was a great read. I am just sorry that there isn't a book 2 to follow. Hope that the author can put the second book out there soon.
This book was very enjoyable, from the small amount of humor to the loyalty of her friends, to mention the different twists that Skye must over come. Oh! And how could I forget about the budding romance between her and two very interesting but different (from each other) characters!
I enjoyed this book. I didn't really feel like it ended, though. I believe this will eventually be one of a series, but I heard that the author was having health issues, so who knows when she will finish the second one?
This was a freebie, and I was going to give it one star, but the intro was really good...so good that I read the whole ridiculous thing hoping that the fun from the beginning would come back. Instead, it became worse and more clichéd as it progressed.
An exciting book that the pages turned quickly and easily. Lots of action and uses it's story line to fill it's pages instead of boring long winded descriptions , or repetitive sex scenes. Will certainly read the next book if and when it comes out
