About the author

V.K.N.' or VKN (abbreviated from his full name Vadakkke Koottala Narayanankutty Nair) (6 April 1932 - 25 January 2004) was a pathbreaking and celebrated Malayalam writer, noted mainly for his high-brow satire. Apart from novels, he wrote short stories and political commentaries. A native of Kerala in south India, his works are considered distinctive for their multi-layered humour, trenchant criticism of the socio-political classes and uncanny ability to twist the meanings of words contextually, thus lend a touch of magic to his language (which, at times, was English too).
VKN's works call for an attentive and informed reader who can recognise his allusions and follow his changes in language, where he shifts between English, Hindi, Malayalam and a distinctive variety of Tamil spoken by the Iyer community in Palakkad. In most cases, the use of language other than Malayalam is immediately followed by a translation (in parentheses), but these translations have little do with what they stand for in the original.
Born on 6 April 1932, in Thiruvilwamala in Thrissur district, VKN, after completing his matriculation, joined the Malabar Devaswom Board and worked there for 9 years. Like a good number of modern Malayalam writers like O. V. Vijayan, VKN spent many years in New Delhi (from 1959 to 1969) as an English journalist. The experiences he gained during these years that also coincided with the nascent post-independent India finds a recreation in one of his most heralded work, Pitamahan (The Great Grandfather). He entered Malayalam literature in 1955.
VKN is considered as a genius, for his knowledge in philosophy, history, art, politics, literature (both Indian and Western; ancient and modern), social issues, ethnicity, agriculture, astrology and sport. It merits some acquaintance with his writing style and deep understanding of language and politics to really comprehend and appreciate his wit and insight. Due to this reason, it is near impossible to convey his brilliance in translations and it is very difficult even for those who understand Malayalam to fully grasp his multi-dimensional wizardry.
His humour comes from inverting his own language to expose both the inner workings and shortcomings of our languages as a means of communication. In certain stories/narrations, the characters of the story/narration comment about the author. Malayalam critics have yet to understand him well, and a proper study about his works and style is yet to happen in the language. VKN served as vice-chairperson of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, Thrissur. He had also chaired the Kunchan Smarakam at Killikkurussimangalam near Ottappalam.

To be frank, I am not a huge fan of sarcasm. It is V.K.N. who helped me to enjoy it to a certain extent. This book is undeniably V.K.N. at his best. If you are someone who loves the character Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry in Friends, you should never miss this book.

Power : That high-born arrogant bugger who only graces the most intelligent, rich and manipulative among us mortals.It is said that power corrupts the weaker ones among us and power at its zenith irrevocably alters mankind. Well, power never met Sir Chathu I guess !

Power in all its resplendent glory walked in to meet the omnipotent Malayali gent and announced in its haughty voice You, puny mortal ! Bow before me and I shall make you rich beyond imagination ! . Sir Chathu would probably lift an eyebrow and get up from his reclining chair. Moving to the windowsill, he would spit out the betel nut juice from his mouth and smile at power motioning it to come closer. Power walks forward sneering at this contemptible mass of flesh who has buckled in its fiery gaze. As soon as power gets closer, Sir Chathu would lift a hand and in one sweeping motion slap the sneer off power's face and grab hold of its ear. He would then methodically beat the living daylights out of this seemingly irresistable entity. When power regains consciousness, Sir Chathu would be sitting serenely on his chair as if nothing has happened and ask Do we understand each other then ? Power with its groggy head would sit up and say Yes,milord . Now you get the picture of what the protagonist is like !

This man climbs the ladder rungs of power as if they were made for him and he laughs in the face of every single archetype as he walks to the throne. This is probably my top favorite by the author for he seems to enjoy himself every step of the way that he writes.

I remember an interview with VKN where he was asked You seem to be at times too erudite for the common reader. You make so many demands on them to understand agriculture,history,astrology,medicine and literature before they can grasp your works. Why don't you want to write for the common man ?

VKN laughed and replied Common Reader ? What kind of a creature is that ? For all I care, they can buzz off !

That arrogance was calculated is what I have always felt for he was an author who broke apart and remolded the tremendously orthodox Malayalam language through his literary skills.

P.S : I am too much of a fan of this writer. This is fan-boy gushing and not a review.

പുഴക്കര വീട്ടിൽ വെറും ചാത്തു നായർ സർ ചാത്തുവും പിന്നെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയും (കൊച്ചിയുടെ, ഇന്ത്യയുടെ അല്ല) ആയി മാറുന്നതിന്റെ narration (തത്സമയ പ്രക്ഷേപണം) ആണ് പിതാമഹൻ. നെല്ല് മുഖ്യ currency ആയ, കൊച്ചി രാജ്യത്തിൽ പെട്ട ചാത്തുവിന്റെ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിൽ നെല്ല് കുന്നുകൂടുകയും മറ്റും ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ ഇവനെ വിറ്റു കാശാക്കിക്കളയാം എന്ന് വിചാരിച്ചു ഒരു വഞ്ചി നെല്ലുമായി കൊച്ചിയ്ക്ക് തിരിയ്ക്കുന്നു. നെല്ലു കച്ചവടക്കാരുടെ കൈയിൽ നിന്നും എന്തെങ്കിലും തടയും എന്നു വിചാരിച്ച ആരോഗ്യ വകുപ്പ് കംഷനർ പൊന്നാനി ഭാഗത്തൊക്കെ വിഷൂചിക ഉണ്ടെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നെല്ലു വിൽക്കൽ തടയുന്നു. കുപിതനായ ചരിത്ര പുരുഷൻ തന്റെ നെല്ല് എല്ലാം കൂട്ടിയിട്ടു പൊതുജന സമക്ഷം കത്തിയ്ക്കുന്നു. വിവരം അറിഞ്ഞു പരിഭ്രാന്തരായ ദിവാനും മറ്റുള്ളവരും ചാത്തുവിനെ അനുനയിപ്പിയ്ക്കുകയും തുടർന്നു നെല്ല് വിൽക്കാൻ സമ്മതിയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ചാത്തുവിന്റെ പോരാട്ടങ്ങളുടെ കഥയറിഞ്ഞ വിക്ടോറിയ മഹാരാജ്ഞി ചാത്തുവിനു ഒരു സർ സ്ഥാനം ചുമ്മാ കൊടുക്കുന്നു. കൊച്ചി രാജ്യത്തെ ഏക നൈറ്റ്‌ ആയ ചാത്തു, എറിയാൻ കിട്ടിയവന്റെ കൈയിൽ കിട്ടിയ സർ സ്ഥാനം ഭേഷായി ഉപയോഗിച്ച് തന്റെ സാമ്രാജ്യം കെട്ടിപ്പടുക്കുന്നു.

V.K.N'ന്റെ വിറ്റുകൾ സുലഭമായി പൂത്തുലഞ്ഞു നിൽക്കുന്ന ഒരു കൊന്നപ്പൂമരം ആണ് പിതാമഹൻ (ആഢ്യനും ക്ലാവരും ഒക്കെ ആയ കണിക്കൊന്ന അല്ല, സാധാരണ വേലിയ്ക്കൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന, പിങ്ക് പൂക്കൾ കുലച്ചു നിൽക്കുന്ന ശീമക്കൊന്ന). അപ്രതീക്ഷിതമായ നമ്പരുകൾ എവിടുന്നാണ് പൊട്ടി വീഴുക എന്നു പറയാൻ പറ്റില്ല. പൊതു സ്ഥലത്ത് ഇരുന്നു ഇതു വായിക്കുന്നത് സൂക്ഷിച്ചു വേണം. പെട്ടെന്നുള്ള പൊട്ടിച്ചിരികൾ ആളുകൾ എങ്ങനെയാണ് എടുക്കുക എന്നറിയില്ലല്ലോ. എന്തായാലും ഇത് ഉപരിപ്ലവ വിവരണം. അടുത്ത layer എന്നു പറയുന്നത് ചിരിയുടെ അടിയിലെ കാര്യത്തിന്റെ ഒരു അടിയൊഴുക്കാണ്. 'ആരോഹണം' എന്ന നോവലിന്റെ കഥാതന്തു തന്നെയാണ് പുള്ളി ഇവിടെയും ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരിയ്ക്കുന്നത്. തന്റെ ബുദ്ധിശക്തിയും ജിഹ്വശക്തിയും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് കുടിലതകളുടെ ആവാസകേന്ദ്രമായ ഭരണയന്ത്രത്തിൽ ഇടിച്ചുകയറി അതിന്റെ മുകളിലെ തട്ടിലെത്തുന്ന നായകൻ. തട്ടിപ്പിന് മറുമരുന്ന് വലിയ തട്ടിപ്പ് എന്ന V.K.N ഫിലോസഫിയിൽ അധിഷ്ടിതമാണ് ഈ കഥയും. എന്നാൽ ചാത്തു വളരെ പ്രഗൽഭനായ ഒരു ഭരണ കർത്താവും കുറച്ചുകൂടെ നീതിമാനും ആണെന്ന് മാത്രം. പക്ഷെ, ആരോഹണത്തിലെ അത്രയ്ക്കും മടുപ്പിന്റെയും നിരാശയുടെയും ഒരു ആവരണം ഈ കഥയിൽ കാണാനില്ല.

ഇതിന്റെ മൂന്നാമത്തെ layer ആണ് എനിയ്ക്ക് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടാതെ പോയത്. അതായത് നോവലിസ്റ്റ്‌ explicit ആയിട്ട് പറയാതെ, അബോധമായി കഥയിൽ വന്നുപോകുന്ന ഒരു ചായ് വ് ഉണ്ടല്ലോ, അത്. നായർ മേധാവിത്വത്തിലെയ്ക്കുള്ള ആ ഒരു ചായ് വ് വളരെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു വായിച്ചാലേ മനസ്സിലാകുകയുള്ളൂ. തമാശകൾക്കും സാഹിത്യത്തിനും ഇടയ്ക്ക് അറിയാതെ (?) വന്നു പോകുന്ന ഈ സാധനം കഥയ്ക്ക്‌ ചെറിയൊരു ചവർപ്പുരസം പകരുന്നുണ്ട്. ചിലപ്പോൾ അത് ഈ കഥയുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലം കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന ഒരു രുചി ആയിരിയ്ക്കാം. ആരോഹണത്തിൽ അങ്ങനെ ഒരു പ്രശ്നം കണ്ടതായി ഓർമയില്ല. പയ്യൻ പൊതുവെ അജാതീയൻ ആണല്ലോ. അതുകൊണ്ട് V.K.Nനിൽ മൊത്തമായി ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു ആരോപണം ഉന്നയിയ്ക്കാൻ പറ്റുമെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നില്ല (ആശ്വാസം, ഞാൻ അങ്ങയുടെ ഒരു ഫാൻ ആണ്).

വി.കെ.എൻ-നെ പോലെ മലയാളത്തിൽ വേറൊരു എഴുത്തുകാരനില്ല തന്നെ. ലോക സാഹിത്യത്തിൽ തിരഞ്ഞാലും(എൻറെ പരിമിതമായ അറിവിൽ) അതുപോലൊരു ജനുസ്സ് വിരളം(P. G. Wodehouse-മും അതുപോലൊരു വിചിത്ര സൃഷ്ടിയാണെന്ന് തോന്നിയിട്ടുണ്ട്).

പിതാമഹനിലേക്ക് വരുമ്പോൾ...

'ആരോഹണം' വായിച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞാണ് 'പിതാമഹൻ' കൈയിലെടുക്കുന്നത്. ഇവിടെയും അടിസ്ഥാന പ്രമേയം ആരോഹണത്തിനു സമാനമാണ്. തലസ്ഥാന നഗരിയിൽ `60 കളിലെ ചൂടുപിടിച്ച രാഷ്ട്രീയ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ ഇരുത്തലയും പിടിച്ചു കലഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ള പയ്യൻറെ ഉയർച്ചയാണ് `ആരോഹണ`ത്തിൻറെ കാതലെങ്കിൽ, ബ്രിട്ടിഷ് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ, കൊച്ചി ശീമയിൽ, നടന്ന ഭരണ പരിഷ്കാരങ്ങളുടെ അരങ്ങിൽ, സ്വന്തം കൗടില്യങ്ങൾക്കൊണ്ട് പുഴക്കര വീട്ടിൽ ചാത്തുവെന്ന 'രാജയോഗമുള്ള ജാതകാപുരുഷന്റെ' ഔന്നത്യങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള പ്രയാണമാണ് 'പിതാമഹനി'ൽ. നോവലിന്റെ അവസാന ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷപെടുന്ന ചാത്തുവിന്റെ അനന്തരവൻ 'കൊച്ച' എന്ന കൊച്ചു ഗോവിന്ദൻ തന്നെയല്ലേ നോവലിസ്റ്റിന്റെ മറ്റു പല കൃതികളിലെയും കേന്ദ്ര കഥാപത്രമായ - മറ്റൊരു തല തെറിച്ച പടപ്പായ - 'പയ്യൻ' എന്ന് സംശയം തോന്നുന്നു.

തൻറെ കഥകളിലെ നായകന്മാർക്ക് എഴുത്തുകാരൻറെ തന്നെ നിഴൽ കാണാനാകുമെന്നത് വി.കെ.എൻ സാഹിത്യത്തിൻറെ ഒരു സവിശേഷതയാണ്. ഇവിടെയും 'ഉത്തമപുരുഷ'നായ ചാത്തു വി.കെ.എൻ തന്നെ.
തിരുവില്വാമല, പഴയന്നൂർ, ചേലക്കര, തൃശൂർ തുടങ്ങി സ്വന്തം നാടിൻറെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലുള്ള കഥയാകയാൽ വ്യക്തിപരമായി 'പിതാമഹൻ' കൂടുതൽ ആസ്വാദ്യത സമ്മാനിച്ചെന്നു പറയാം.

വി.കെ.എൻ-ൻറെ ഭാഷാസൗകുമാര്യത്തെകുറിച്ചോ ആക്ഷേപഹാസ്യഗുണത്തെക്കുറിച്ചോ ഉള്ള വിശേഷാൽ പരാമർശം അധികപ്പറ്റാകുമെന്നതിനാൽ അതിലേക്കൊന്നും കടക്കുന്നില്ല.

ഒരു കാര്യം പറയാതെ വയ്യ, വി.കെ.എൻ കൃതികൾ വിവർത്തനത്തിനു വഴങ്ങാത്തത് ഖേദകരം ('ഡ്രൈവർ-ഡ്രൈവൻ' ഫലിതമൊക്കെ പരിഭാഷക്ക് കീറാമുട്ടി!). ആ സൃഷ്ടികൾക്ക് ലോകത്തിൻറെ എല്ലാ കോണിൽ നിന്നും ഒത്തിരി ��ായനക്കാരുണ്ടാകേണ്ടതായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെയൊരു സാധ്യതതയെ പറ്റി അദ്ദേഹവും ചിന്തിച്ചതിൻറെ ബാക്കിപത്രമായിരിക്കണം 'Bovine Bugles'.

മാര്ജിനിലെക്ക് ഇസ്‌ക്കിയെഴുതിയ കുറിപ്പ് (Side note): വി.കെ.എൻ സൃഷിടികളിലെ വാക്കുകളിലെ ഭംഗിക്കും ഫലിതത്തിനും ദൃശ്യഭാഷ്യം കെട്ടാൻ എല്ലുറപ്പ് കാണിച്ച സത്യൻ അന്തിക്കാടിന്റെ പ്രശംസിക്കാതെ വയ്യ. വി.കെ.എൻ തന്നെ 'അപ്പുണ്ണി'ക്ക് തിരക്കഥയൊരുക്കാൻ ഒപ്പം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ധൈര്യത്തിലായിരുന്നിരിക്കണം സത്യൻറെ ആ സാഹസികത.

തിരുവില്വാമലയിലെ പുഴക്കരെത്തറവാട്ടിലെ ചാത്തു നായരുടെ കഥയാണ് പിതാമഹൻ എന്ന ഈ നോവൽ. എഴുപതു സംവത്സരങ്ങൾക്കപ്പുറം സർ സ്ഥാനം കിട്ടുന്നതിനു മുമ്പു തന്നെ ചാത്തു നായർ നാലയലത്തും ജന്മിയായിരുന്നു. ചാത്തു എന്നേ പഴമക്കാർ വിളിക്കൂ. ചാത്തുവിന് വിക്ടോറിയ മഹാറാണി സർ സ്ഥാനം കൽപിച്ചരുളിയതിന്റെ കഥയാണ് ഇവിടെ സംഗ്രഹിക്കാൻ പോകുന്നത് എന്ന ആ മുഖ വാചകത്തോടെയാണ് ചിരിയുടെ ഔഷധവീര്യമടങ്ങിയ ഈ നോവൽ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്.

വി.കെ.എന്നിന്റെ ശൈലി നിറഞ്ഞാടുന്ന ഈ നോവൽ ചാത്തുവിന്റെ പടയോട്ടത്തിന്റെ കഥയാണ്. ആ കഥ പറയുമ്പോൾ വി.കെ.എൻ. ശൈലിയിൽ പൊതിഞ്ഞ പരിഹാസവും രതിയും രാഷ്ട്രീയവും ഒക്കെയുണ്ട്.
തിരുവില്വാമലയിലെ ജന്മിയായ ചാത്തു നായർ സർ ചാത്തുവാകുന്നത്; പിന്നീട് പടിപടിയായി സർ ചാത്തു സാമ്രാജ്യങ്ങളോരോന്നായി പിടിച്ചടക്കി കൊച്ചി രാജ്യത്തെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി വരെയെത്തുന്ന കഥയാണി നോവൽ.
എം.കെ.സാനുവിന്റെ ഭാഷയിൽ പറഞ്ഞാൽ ഇതിന്റെ വായന നല്ലൊരു ചികിത്സയുടെ ഫലമാണ് ള്ള വാക്കുക.

ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഭരണകാലത്ത് കൊച്ചിയിൽ നടന്ന പരിഷ്കാരങ്ങൾ ചാത്തുനായർ സാറിലൂടെ കാണിച്ചുതരുന്ന നോവൽ. നർമ്മത്തിന്റെ മേമ്പൊടിയോടെ കാര്യങ്ങൾ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് ഒരേസമയം ചിരിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചിന്തിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ചാത്തുനായർ സാറിൽ നിന്നും തുടങ്ങി കൊച്ചിയിലെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ആകുന്നത് വരെയുള്ള തലങ്ങളിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കൊണ്ടെത്തിക്കുന്നത് കൂർമ്മ ബുദ്ധിയാണ്. ഫ്യൂഡൽ വ്യവസ്ഥിതിയിൽ ജനാധിപത്യം നേരിടുന്ന വെല്ലുവിളികൾ വളരെ സരസമായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. നമ്മളെ ചിരിപ്പിച്ച വിമർശനങ്ങളെല്ലാം തന്നെ കുറിക്കുകൊള്ളുന്നവയാണ്.

I was always been a great fan of VKN. athe way he writes is simply awesome. As somebody told he have medicinal power inside his comedies.

The important thing is this book was written in 70s. but the writing syle is of new gen bloggers. bloggers might have copied from him. tons of new funny words introduced in this book. at one point I closed down the book and was laughing out loud for more than 10 minutes.

the book centers around a character who gets Lord ship from Queen. :P. and later the corruption the same guy is doing. The planning of sir Chathu for doing those corruption are worth reading.

A must read, it might be a slow mover though. But read it slow. It have laughs hidden in each word in fact. Have a great reading. cheers.

തിരുവില്ലുയ മലയിൽ ചാത്തു നായര് സർ ചാത്തു ആകുന്നതു എങ്ങനെയെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു തുടങ്ങുന്നു ഈ നോവൽ. ബ്രിട്ടീഷ്‌ ഭരണ കാലത്ത് കൊച്ചിയിൽ നടന്ന ഓരോ പരിഷ്കാരങ്ങൾ സർ ചാത്തുവിലൂടെ പറഞ്ഞുതരികയാണ് നോവലിസ്റ്റ്‌. ഹാസ്യത്തിന്റെ പൊലിമയോട് കൂടി അവതരിപിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള നോവൽ നമ്മെ ചിരിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചിന്തിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. സർ ചാത്തു വിൽ നിന്ന് തുടങ്ങി കൊച്ചിയുടെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ആകുന്നതു വരെ എത്തി നില്കുന്നു ചാത്തു നായരുടെ വളര്ച്ച. കൂർമ ബുദ്ധിയും തൊടുന്നതൊക്കെ പൊന്നാക്കുന്ന വിദ്യയും കൈവശം ഉള്ള ചാത്തു നായരെ ബഹുമാനിച്ചു പോകും.
വളരെ സരസമായ ഭാഷയും ശൈലികളും ഈ നോവലിനെ വ്യത്യസ്തമാക്കുന്നു. ആക്ഷേപഹാസ്യം വളരെ മനോഹരമായ്‌ വി കെ എൻ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു

വി.കെ.എന്നിന്റെ പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ ഞാൻ അധികം വായിച്ചിട്ടില്ല എന്നതാണ് സത്യം. വായിച്ചതൊക്കെയും ഞാൻ ആസ്വദിച്ചിരുന്നു. ആക്ഷേപഹാസ്യം കേൾക്കാൻ ഇഷ്ട്ടമാണ് എങ്കിലും അത് വായിക്കാനുള്ള താല്പര്യം എനിക്ക് തോന്നിയിരുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ ലൈബ്രറിയിൽ പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ തിരയുന്നതിനിടയിൽ അപ്രതീക്ഷിതമായി എന്റെ കയ്യിലേക്ക് വന്ന "പിതാമഹൻ" എന്റെ ആ തോന്നലിനെ മാറ്റി കളഞ്ഞു.

തിരുവില്വാമലയിലെ പുഴക്കരത്തറവാട്ടിലെ ചാത്തു നായരുടെ കഥയാണ് പിതാമഹൻ എന്ന ഈ നോവൽ. നാട്ടിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ജന്മിയായ ചാത്തുവിന് വിക്ടോറിയ രാജ്ഞി സർ സ്ഥാനം നൽകുന്നു. അതോടെ ചാത്തു ഇനി മേലാൽ സർ ചാത്തുവായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ പിന്നീട് തന്റെ വീര സാഹസിക കൃത്യങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ട് സർ ചാത്തു സാമ്രാജ്യങ്ങളോരോന്നായി പിടിച്ചടക്കി കൊച്ചി രാജ്യത്തെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി പദം വരെയെത്തുന്നു. ആ കഥയാണ് ഈ നോവൽ പറയുന്നത്. ഫ്യൂഡൽ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ ജനങ്ങൾ നേരിട്ട വെല്ലുവിളികളും പ്രശ്നങ്ങളും വളരെ സരസമായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ചിരി ചേർത്ത് എഴുതിയതൊക്കെയും വേദനിപ്പിക്കുന്ന, ചിന്തിപ്പിക്കുന്ന യാഥാർഥ്യങ്ങളാണ്.

ഇടയ്ക്ക് വായനയുടെ flow എനിക്ക് നഷ്ട്ടപെട്ടിരുന്നു. ചില അദ്ധ്യായങ്ങൾ വിരസത നൽകി.

The book tells the adventures of knighted "Sir" Chathu Nair to who becomes the chief minister of the state through his devious tactics and aura. The book is a true political satire.
*The reader need to know Malayalam to truly enjoy this book.
No one can translate this book to any language and keep the same degree of humor that VKN had infused in his writing.
