Incredibly helpful for learning the structure of Mark's gospel (as well as convincing you why that's a worthwhile thing to do in the first place!). Most of the commentary is great and there are some really insightful and original observations which makes these stories, some of which I've heard all my life, feel fresh and exciting (although that said, some of the commentary doesn't seem to be completely backed up by the text). Because of his thorough understanding of the whole book, and his simple yet powerful commentary, I can imagine myself coming back to this in future in the context of leading a Bible study in Mark and being greatly helped by it.

"These four miracles (stilling the storm, Legion, bleeding woman, Jairus' daughter) show us the power of Jesus at work in every area of life: over nature, evil, sickness and death. If Jesus is Lord in these four areas in which we human beings constantly experience our powerlessness, then he is Lord over everything."

A fantastic book, not least because it is very helpful putting on the mark drama, but also because it is just a great brief commentary on the book of Mark.
