Our Documents is a collection of 100 documents that the staff of the National Archives has judged most important to the development of the United States. The entry for each document includes a short introduction, a facsimile, and a transcript of the document. Backmatter includes further reading, credits, and index. The book is part of the much larger Our Documents initiative sponsored by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), National History Day, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the USA Freedom Corps.

About the author

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is an independent agency of the United States government charged with preserving and documenting government and historical records and with increasing public access to those documents, which comprise the National Archives. NARA is officially responsible for maintaining and publishing the legally authentic and authoritative copies of acts of Congress, presidential proclamations and executive orders, and federal regulations. The NARA also transmits votes of the Electoral College to Congress.

The chief administrator of NARA is the Archivist of the United States.

A beautiful collection of primary source documents from the National Archives. The 100 milestone documents from the National Archives, ends in 1964? Have we not had a milestone since then? Hmmm. But still a great item for a history buff or social studies teacher. Ultimately a coffee table book, all of the documents are available in hi-res online at: http://www.ourdocuments.gov
