I'm a little flabbergasted at this book. While it has some good information, it's very poorly stated - and sometimes outright wrong. For example, instead of using the word "embouchure" throughout, it talks about your "air-jet shape." Also, the author doesn't stick to one way to describe the tonguing made with certain types of notes. I believe I counted 3 different syllables for 1 technique throughout.
Overall, It's only okay. Not written clearly or completely accurately.
This book is an excellent and gentle introduction to flute playing. I picked up the flute for the first time less than a month ago, and already feel comfortable with basic posture, breath, fingering, and reading. The lessons are simple and well designed, and the amazing retro illustrations provide a lot of charm. Harrison's recommendation to "sip, don't gulp" the lessons is wise advice. A great companion for new learners.
