Fans of musicals will sing when a division president of MGM and industry insider presents her entertaining, illuminating insights on exactly what happens when stage meets screen.
This book wasn't exactly what I was expecting. Rather than a history of the relationship between Broadway and Hollywood It uses explorations of specific musicals to examine how the journey these musicals went through was or was not reflective of how Broadway and Hollywood were functioning at the time. The book is definitely told from a behind the scenes angle and focuses more on the creative side of the process rather than how musicals were occupying the public imagination. However it's still a fascinating book which will definitely appeal to musical aficionados. Not to mention it's filled with pretty pictures.
A seamless story about the live hate relationship between hollywood and broadway. Gripping and sometimes heartbreaking, especially on the story of Gypsy and her Mama Rose. Such epic.
