Penelope Jones Halsall
aka Caroline Courtney, Annie Groves, Lydia Hitchcock, Melinda Wright

Penelope "Penny" Jones was born on November 24, 1946 at about seven pounds in a nursing home in Preston, Lancashire, England. She was the first child of Anthony Winn Jones, an engineer, who died at 85, and his wife Margaret Louise Groves Jones. She has a brother, Anthony, and a sister, Prudence "Pru".

She had been a keen reader from the childhood - her mother used to leave her in the children's section of their local library whilst she changed her father's library books. She was a storyteller long before she began to write romantic fiction. At the age of eight, she was creating serialized bedtime stories, featuring make-believe adventures, for her younger sister Prue, who was always the heroine. At eleven, she fell in love with Mills & Boon, and with their heroes. In those days the books could only be obtained via private lending libraries, and she quickly became a devoted fan; she was thrilled to bits when the books went on full sale in shops and she could have them for keeps.

Penny left grammar school in Rochdale with O-Levels in English Language, English Literature and Geography. She first discovered Mills & Boon books, via a girl she worked with. She married Steve Halsall, an accountant and a "lovely man", who smoked and drank too heavily, and suffered oral cancer with bravery and dignity. Her husband bought her the small electric typewriter on which she typed her first novels, at a time when he could ill afford it. He died at the beginning of 21st century.

She earned a living as a writer since the 1970s when, as a shorthand typist, she entered a competition run by the Romantic Novelists' Association. Although she didn't win, Penny found an agent who was looking for a new Georgette Heyer. She published four regency novels as Caroline Courtney, before changing her nom de plume to Melinda Wright for three air-hostess romps and then she wrote two thrillers as Lydia Hitchcock. Soon after that, Mills and Boon accepted her first novel for them, Falcon's Prey as Penny Jordan. However, for her more historical romance novels, she adopted her mother's maiden-name to become Annie Groves. Almost 70 of her 167 Mills and Boon novels have been sold worldwide.

Penny Halsall lived in a neo-Georgian house in Nantwich, Cheshire, with her Alsatian Sheba and cat Posh. She worked from home, in her kitchen, surrounded by her pets, and welcomed interruptions from her friends and family.

Ricardo, a rich ruthless businessman wants to take over a company. Carly Carlisle is one of the three founders of the company. When these two meet sparks fly but Ricardo is told by the husband of one of the other partners that Carly is a greedy gold-digger who sleeps with her clients. When the chemistry erupts between them of course it's in the form of an argument.

His early mistrust and the way he treated Carly was unfair, and I was glad when he learned to appreciate Carly’s quiet beauty and integrity. He is a sigh-worthy and dreamy man and I love how he was the first to admit he has fallen in love with Carly even though she is not ready to say the words.

Carly was one tough woman. She had a crappy upbringing with crappy parents and a crappy sister, but she managed to make a life for herself despite all that. She is such a good person. She suffered so much in life, but still finds will to go on and try to protect her heart from breaking once again. But Ricardo will break down her emotional walls and give her a second chance at finding happiness.

I have been reading Penny Jordan for years and though this book, which is the 1st book in the Jet Set Wives Series, all about three friends, Carly, Julia & Lucy, who all find their HEA with billionaires, naturally.

This is the story of Carly Carlisle, one of the co-founders of Prêt a Party, a very up market and exclusive party planning company and Ricardo Salvatore, who rose from the slums of Naples to becoming a billionaire, even rumored that he will be given a knighthood, with a disdain for greedy, gold-digging and entitled women.

Both are, naturally gorgeous!!!!

[image error][image error] [image error] />

Wanting inside information, he pretends he wants to use the company for some of his planned parties but before he can make up his mind, wants to see how they do it.

Ricardo travels with Carly to observe the parties she is scheduled to overseer. She’s finds herself attracted to him like she has never been for any other man. However,he believes her to just being another gold-digger – after all, he was informed by one of her friend’s husband that she was look-out for a rich man.Everything Carly says or does seems to confirm his belief in her greediness and he’s totally rude and obnoxious at every chance he gets, to a point that Carly believes he’s such another playboy, out to bed any woman that’s available.

Both feel the incredible hot attraction for each and soon discover that they want more than just a physical relationship and at times I became totally irritated with both of them….yes, Carly had been an abandoned, unloved and unwanted as a child and wanted to be with someone who loved her and yes, Ricardo had a few “bad” experiences with women in his life. But hell, why did they never discuss the sad childhood both had some much in common with!!! Instead they internalized all their feelings and insecurities resulting in a lot of unnecessary miscommunication and misery!!!!

Travelling on private jets , limos, yachts to fabulous destinations like St Tropez, New York, The Hamptons, the Loire and staying in mansions, chateaux, villas, 5th Ave penthouse apartments…….the life of the rich and fabulous and a quick peek into their not-so-nice behavior!!!!!

The life of the rich and famous....

And somewhere in between the dashing around, Carly and Ricardo finally do it – some hot scene there….and discover that what’s between them is more than just sex…..okay, Carly’s first time..and boy does this girl learn fast ……and the thrill discovering SEX…geez…she can’t stop herself…
[image error]

Ricardo was lying facing her, his arm resting heavily but oh, so sweetly over her, holding her close to him.
“Are you okay?”
“I think so,” she answered shakily. “I’m still trying to come back down to earth. I hadn't realized it would be so….” She stopped.
“So what?” Ricardo probed.

“So…so intense. Not when you…when we don’t…when this isn’t about loving one another,” she finally managed to say.

Wait a minute!!!!! Isn't that what the alpha hero suppose to say?????

Carly is not the average heroine…no wilting, sniveling, doormat for her, that’s for sure, and that was one of the things that were endearing to me. She wasn't sitting around, feeling sorry for herself ….rather she knew what or who she wanted and was not prepared for second best. And in Ricardo’s “words”, she’s a very competent and organized and of course gorgeous woman!!!
She's a woman I liked a lot!!!
[image error] photo d95177bd9788fd0e80880b2433ddb661_zpsbdf407ee.jpg

I did love the part where Ricardo declares his feelings for Carly –

“I want you, Carly, and not just physically. You touch my emotions and delight my senses. When you aren't with me, I want you to be. You've become integral to my pleasure in life – to my happiness, if you like. I want to explore with you what’s happening to us. I trust you enough to tell you that, and to tell you too that emotionally I am vulnerable to you. Is it really so hard for you to do the same?”

This is so incredible…I am giving this book a higher rating because???? You need to ask!!! When did we ever have an alpha-male ever ever say and admit he’s vulnerability and insecure????

And then, what does Carly say???

“I don’t know what to say,” she admitted shakily.

WOW WOW…so totally not what I expected!!!!

Of course, all misunderstandings are sorted out, problems solved, admit their love for each other and without a doubt, have a wonderful HEA.

So, after enjoying this little love story, going next to Julia’s story!!

OMG...I am so excited...this is the first time I used images in my reviews...thanks to my gr friend, Baba, who helped me "getting" it...well, not exactly perfect but "practice makes perfect", so i'll be doing lots and lots of practicing!!!!!

Ugh. Do not bother.

Misunderstandings galore.
The H thinks h is whore, gold digger, privileged snob. When in reality she is a hardworking virgin orphan.

A virgin who is wanton enough to disrobe in front of the H on the first night they are together, huh??? She has uncontrollable sexual urges, constantly thinking of sex despite the fact she discovered that her business partner's husband has been embezzling from their business and forged her signature!

As a reader, I was getting stressed thinking of the embezzlement and all the heroine could do was think about sex!

It's a solid 1-star, I upped it to 2 since in the last 15 pages, after they have sex, the Hero actually becomes decent and declares his feelings quite nicely.

This was a surprise. Penny Jordan really made a change with her latest books. The sex scene are much more esplicit and also the heroine attitude is much more open than her previous book. Here is a heroine who wants to have an affair with one of her clients, only sex and no committments. It will be him to say the L word first, and she will leave him when she thinks he was trying to buy her businnes. First he misjudged her and treated as a gold-digger b**c, then when he realizes she's everything but, he apologizes and starts to treat her with respect. I liked this book, very light and sexy.

A lot of sex. Maybe too much? Or perhaps I was not feeling it. He said he loved her first, while she was still commitment wary, which was unusual. I could easily have dnf'd but it was ok.

This is the first in the “Jet Set Wives” series and brace yourself – there’s a lot of naughty stuff going on in the bedroom in this novel so it’s a rollercoaster ride!

The heroine, Carly, is a young woman who because of her traumatic past prefers to keep herself to herself, quietly avoiding relationships and going to her creative writing classes and organising parties for her work. The next assignment in creative writing class is to write about fantasy sex; which is fortunate, because just as she’s scratching her head and wondering what she is going to write, she meets Ricardo, who’ s offering all the fantasy sex she can take (and then some). Initially Ricardo believes she’s a gold-digger and there are all the traditional misunderstandings, but by 85% of the way through this Kindle edition of the novel, all they are doing is bonking. Forget party planning; she’s too busy thinking about sex.

It’s an interesting one this one; as it seems as if Jordan has tried to adopt some of the Chick lit romance devices which are so popular in modern fiction. She’s lives with her mate who uses shoes as a form of therapy and there’s lots of slang language and witticisms which make this a really entertaining read. For example:

“did he really grab your boob, Carly? What did you do?’
‘I reminded myself that the evening was making me a profit of £6,000.’
‘Ah.’
‘And then I dropped a full bottle of Cristal on his balls.’
‘Oh!’ (Loc 145)

It’s so out of the ordinary for a Mills and Boon, it’s definitely worthy of comment. I also liked Carly’s initial excuse as to how she is going to write about fantasy sex when (at that stage in the novel) she’s never experienced sex at all:

“…how on earth are you going to write about fantasy sex when…?’
Carly gave her a withering look.
‘I’m going to use my imagination. That is the whole point of the exercise,’ she told her with awesome dignity. (Loc 238)

These are the words that (single) M&B author Violet Winspear used to a journalist when he asked her what she knew about romance. I thought that was really interesting.

This is a great book – I really enjoyed it – it’s light, entertaining and has all the wonderful romance that Jordan was so good at. Two quid on Kindle – definitely recommend it.

RICARDO and CARLY

Carly works for a small event company owned by her best friend, Lucy. She is extremely hardworking and a tough woman who has had a very sad and horrible upbringing as an adopted child of the streets.
Carly also very loyal and completely unaware of her own beauty, but at the same time has major trust issues and emotional she is stunted. Falling in love, or getting emotionally invested in anyone scares her.

Ricardo is an extremely cynical, self-made billionaire who has also had his share of difficulties in life, and his interaction with the opposite sex has made him very judgmental of women.

From his first glance at Carly, he has formed an impression of her as a gold digger, without knowing the facts. Add to that the vindictive husband of her friend, gives him all false information about her, insinuating her lifestyle is being funded by rich men looking for have a good time.

I must say for a businessman who prides himself on research and analysis for his success, he didn’t do any of that for Carly.
Ricardo is so blinded by his prejudice, that he judges her at all things, anything that happens, he twists it negatively in his head, and keeps insulting her brutally. It’s disgusting!

Carly gives it back, tries even to justify, but he does not believe her. But fate is on her side and eventually he does realize his error on his own, and through a series of events.
On top of this, they are very attracted to each other, especially Carly. I mean where is the self-respect. If a man says the thing she says to her, all feelings need to die, and worst part is there no grovel!

Come on! He may have fallen in love with her, but where is the obsession and the crazy love and the complete guilt that he cause her so much hurt and humiliation.

Even the desire element fell flat for me. The interaction between them is less and inner monologue of their desire is more. Just meh!

I have read a lot of sexist romance novels in my life but this one is up there for me. I've only read one Penny Jordan novel that I liked and I have to admit that it was problematic too.

So Carly is a woman with issues around class. She had a rough childhood and has a fierce need to be independent and self-reliant. She loves her friends but feels her class differences intensely. I think that she feels this way because the world she exists in unintentionally reinforces her beliefs everyday.

Then enters Ricardo. Ricardo is the epitome of asswipe. He actually believes another man's characterization of Carly even though he doesn't like the guy. Now here's the thing. Why would you believe a guy you don't even like or trust over a woman who is presenting herself as everything but how random guy has described her? Oh but it gets better! They are about to have sex but he calls her a gold digging slut and she still wants to get in his pants.

I don't know about you but if anyone, male, female or any gender inbetween, calls me a gold digging slut they don't get a second chance. I don't care how hot I think they are! But she's a slave to hormones that didn't exist pre-Ricardo. I call BS! Oh and did I forget to mention the coercive rapey sex scenes. I mean really it's 2014 not 1974. Ugh!

I don't even know why I kept reading, but I have decided that this is the last Penny Jordan novel I will read. The transitions were rough. We go from them being in bed to walking down the street. She has dinner with him and suddenly it's the next day. That's just not right and makes it hard to follow plot.

Carly always knew she would wait for love before having sex. Wanting to be loved, to be wanted, is all she needed her whole life. After being abandoned as a baby, and adopted by a family that did not really want her, much less never loved her, Carly worked hard to never let herself be open and vunerable to that kind of pain. Meeting and working with perspective client, Ricardo, Carly is for the first time opened up to the possiblity of love wih a man.

Ricardo is a self-made millionaire, a man who knows the score of what a woman wants and play acts to get. Ricardo is struck by the contradications Carly presents. What he knows of women does match what her learns about her. The secret he is keeping from her though almost losses her to him forever.

A very touching and romantic story. Fast paced and easy to read.

Well, I must first tell that I heard about Mills & Boon series long ago. But this is the first time I have read them. And also the first time to read Penny Jordon. I definitely will never buy any Mills & Boons books in future.
This is one of worst romance book I ever have read. To be truthful this a "pornography in a decent cover" though the writer even does not know how to write a pornography.
The book has very little story of its own, even which could have been told in a much better way but the writer has used it only to describe the sexual urges of the characters. It seemed that in every move of the characters the writer actually intended to drive the story towards sex and nothing more! Unfortunately even sexual feelings need a better expression apart from always feeling some 'aches between the legs'!
Its a rubbish; wastage of money, time and mood.

This is another one of my favorites from this author.

Ricardo Salvatore hates greedy women and wants to know if Carly is just another one.

After they start knowing one another and the passion just runs over and catches everything on fire, you think everything will be ok. Ricardo finds out the truth about Carly which makes him second guess himself and she finds out why Ricardo wanted out of it.

Not a bad HP read, but the premise of the book was sort of silly and distracting. Mr. Big Shot Italian tycoon plans a corporate take over of a small boutique events planning company and takes time away from his empire building to personally investigate the business? Huh? Well if you can ignore that, it's a solid PJ read.

Another insta-love between two gorgeous people.
Nothing much happened. Series of event to make sure Ricardo misjudged Carly. And then the whole 'OMG he's /she's so hot, I have to have sexy time with him/her'. Jet set life style in the details. And then Ricardo saw the light and apologized to Carly. Some drama in the last three or so chapters. HEA.
