This adventure for the Vampire: The Masquerade RPG is designed as a quick start pack for players new to the game. it has pre-designed characters and takes players through an adventure to get them used to the horrors beyond.
From the Back Cover: An Alien Hunger is a jumpstart kit for Vampire, designed to allow you to start playing within five minutes of reading the rules. It Includes:
Five pre-generated characters, complete with detailed backgrounds and personalities; Source material for the Gothic-Punk city of Denver; A complete adventure to guide both the Storyteller and Players throught the transformation from human to vampire, in which they learn the true meaning of fear.
This was the original jumpstart made for the first edition of Vampire the Masquerade published back in 1991. It has a pretty crappy reputation and most of that is deserved but there are some worthwhile parts to it. The adventure itself is what is crap. It concerns Louis Pasteur, the French biologist, who created a serum that could create vampires. He is also working on a cure for vampirism and has supposedly figured it out. Any long term player/storyteller of the game is probably shaking their heads right now. Yeah, pretty ridiculous but to be fair the game had just came out and they didn't know their audience or play style yet. So the scenario starts as the players as mortals that get injected by this and wake up as new vampires. They then have to navigate the established vampires in Denver and adjust to their new unlife. At the end there is actually a chance that they can become human again. Like I said, really dumb for Vampire the Masquerade but it was brand new at the time. So while the adventure in this is crap the mini gazateer of Denver and how it is run by vampires was interesting reading. Also, this does provide 5 or 6 pre gen vampires that can be used elsewhere. One of the NPCs provided I have redressed to use in my own chronicle. So overall not the best adventure for the game but it has a couple useful bits in it.
