Okay, the copyright on this is 2004 so it's not current... but the information is solid. With a few tweaks it's easy to translate to now. There is a cd that came with it but it's not gonna work... so can't tell you about it.
The chapters are well separated and the information is well explained and you can even try to do some of the examples that are given to actually get some hands on learn as you do, options. I was even able to translate some of the information to use the ideas in the ios ipad zone as well.
The author also goes about some of the way the sound signal is mixed, some advice on using the different effects and some twists to not break the rules, but use the system in a way that probably wasn't planned but doesn't break it either.
If you're familiar with both analogue and digital mixing this will be a good intro even to garageband.
