The Arctic is more than ice and snow. As the seasons change and winter turns to spring, birds return, seals leap and splash, and polar bears are born. Childlike, rhythmic text invites us to greet the animals that come with the turn of seasons-- Hello, birds! Hello, seals! Hello, cubs! --while gorgeous illustrations reveal the wondrous creatures and colors of this stirring northern land. Theodore Taylor, the author of many bestselling novels for teens, combines talents with visionary artist Margaret Chodos-Irvine in an exhilarating celebration of the wonders of the Arctic.

A lesson associate with this book is animal identification; Students will be read the book and then asked to pick two animals from the book who live in the arctic. The students will be asked to draw a picture of each animal they picked and a fact about the animal that was in the book. The fact must be written in a complete sentence.
This was a little young for Squirt, but the illustrations were so lovely, I read it to him anyway. The writing is simple and spare, yet in a soothing, poetic way that suits its subject. Squirt liked it too.
Simple, but fun, read with my 7-month old. Enjoyed saying "hello" and "goodbye" to everything. The illustrations were abstract, but colorful enough to get his attention.
simple and sweet this book is appropriate for babies about the animals seen in the changing arctic season. Each animal gets a hello and an action. Beautiful pictures.
