Pitt-Watson covers a lot of ground in this straightforward book. Chapters 1-3 deal primarily with theology and the core reasons for why preaching is important and what preaching is. Chapter 4 deals with how preachers live the preached text and the preacher's character. How to look for stories in everyday life. Chapters 5-7 deal with structure and a homiletical approach. Preaching is an organic and living thing. He covers how one starts writing a sermon through the delivery of a sermon. A few helpful, practical examples are given. Chapter 7 deals specifically with oration and presentation - the language, tone, and what's valuable and not. Chapter 8 circles back to more of the same, combining theology and preaching.
Short, descritive, and to the point, just as sermons should be according to Watson. Preach shorter rather than longer, simpler instead of complex, and focus on one main idea and restate it in different ways.
Good basic guide to the key issues of preaching. Really clear, straightforward, concise. I especially liked the explanation of the theology of preaching.
