Als ik me een beetje somber voel of verdrietig ga ik naar een museum. Het liefst één met schilderijen van Vincent van Gogh. Zijn werk weerspiegelt mijn 'gemoedszijn' en dat is voor mij zeer troostend. Helaas kan ik al ruim een jaar niet naar musea. Dus dat is troost ergens anders in zoeken. Gelukkig heb ik in de loop der jaren wat boeken van/over Vincent verzameld. Vincent's Gardens is een wat onbekender terrein voor mij. Hoog tijd om daar in te duiken.
Het boek beschrijft de grote invloed van parken en tuinen in het werk van Vincent en voor Vincent. Het zijn de plekken waar zijn onrustige geest rust vindt in chaotische tijden. Ik heb het boek 2x gelezen. De eerste keer het "theoretische" gedeelte. Vervolgens de beschrijvingen bij de tekeningen en schilderijen en deze ook rustig bestudeerd. Het is een fijn boek dat je even stilzet. Met (ik ben zeer bevooroordeeld) prachtig werk van Vincent van Gogh. Het is prettig om even een paar dagen de realiteit te ontvluchten en onder te duiken in Vincent's tuinen.

It was an excellent insomnia book, and I enjoyed learning about Van Gogh's relationship with gardens and parks. Nicely illustrated, of course.
