Drawing students into psychology using a unique "magazine-style" format, Rod Plotnik's modular, visually-oriented approach to the fundamentals makes even the toughest concepts engaging and entertaining. Incorporating the latest research updates, the text breaks concepts down into small, easily digested chunks that allow students and instructors great flexibility in their approach to the subject. For students, this means the flexibility to learn at their own pace; for instructors, the flexibility to assign as much or as little as they like. This Seventh Edition expands upon Plotnik's commitment to teaching by extending the text's approach into its comprehensive ancillary package. For students, "Learning Links" features in the text connect them to the newly updated PowerStudy 2.0 CD-ROM (see below for details). In addition, students have free access to a Book Companion Web Site that now includes personalized Self-Study Assessments-giving them even further assistance in reviewing and prioritizing study time for maximum effectiveness. For instructors, a detailed ancillary package centered around a comprehensive Instructor's Resource Manual provides everything needed for easier, more effective course preparation.
I got it for my Psychology class, but I particularly liked how the material was written--not your typical dry textbook (unless of course if you hate Psychology), which is why I kept the book rather than sell it back at the end of the semester. There are quite a lot of interesting things to be learned from it. I would say this is a 4.5 out of 5.
As expected it was a bit dated. Some horrifying implications from where the book briefly touched on animal, and human, medical experiments. Interesting to see a textbook published in the 1980's using examples from the 1960's and 70's. Reminded me of the textbooks I used in high school in the 1970's that relied heavily on examples from the depression and world war 2. Still lots of good information and analysis of physiology, brain functions, medical conditions, and treatments. Lots of insight in how the medical profession began to rely heavily on medications as solutions to what was perceived to be problems. Lots of dated material about gender identity, sexuality, and how society dealt with perceived differences over the last several decades. This book was given to me many years ago by a friend who was a psychology professor at University of New Brunswick SJ. I finally decided to pick it up from my to-be-read pile.
I purchased this book for my psychology class, but I must say that it’s the most interesting textbook I have ever read! I’m keeping it because I’m going to reread it again.
I had to get this book for my "General Psychology" class. We used it for quizzes, exams, discussion posts, journals and a paper. It was a great book if you love psychology (which I don't) and are majoring in it. I am only giving this book a 5 star because it was great for that class.
The best Psychology book ever!!! I became interested in Psychology because of this book. It's very informative as well as entertaining. And who would have thought Psychology is a boring subject?!
