This is my first book with Ms. Boyett-Compo. I felt rage throughout the entire book. I was very upset with this Resistance group. Who the FUCK do they think they are? They are no better than the ones they are going up against. Cree is totally a pawn in this book and yes, he's the anti-hero but damn, I feel sorry for the guy. He didn't deserve any of this. The only thing is he is guilty of is being born.

This entire cast of characters were mostly villains. I can't even decide if Bridget is a good person or not. This book dealt with ideals and the heavy handed tyranny which men and women can perpetrate. It was depressing. It's a pretty accurate portrayal of how humans have been behaving. The concepts which pop up into mind for this book are "an eye for an eye" and complete genocide. The sheer collateral damage and disregard to life in this book is just devastating. This is a book that makes me think and wonder, "are there any good people in this world?". My answer after reading this book, a resounding no. The other concept that kept going through my mind was, "the end justifies the means".

Personally, if I had been Cree, I'd have killed off the bloody manipulative women. I have no respect for any of them. Their Machiavellian manipulations were completely unethical and made them just as terrible as the men. This book is filled with so much hatred it's hard to get through it at times. I recommend this book to people who enjoy "what if" scenarios.

I found this book by happenstance, looking for some good paranormal romance. I expected it to have vampires in it, and it does. Sort of. Meet Kamerone Cree, scourge of every female on the space station Frontier Station Khamsin-14. He's also a shapeshifting alien and a vampire. When he's called before the Court of Military Tribunal, he knows who's to blame. The Resistance, a small portion of the human women who have been kidnapped by the Rysalians for breeding purposes. These women are tired of their enslavement and they have a way to fix it, but they need Cree's help. So what do they do? They trick him, seduce him, blackmail him, and worst of all, they make him fall in love.
When I read this book, I had a hard time understanding what was going on sometimes, because the author doesn't really explain stuff. She just insinuates things, and lets you figure out the rest. On the rare occasions when she does explain things, the explanations are difficult to understand. But odds are, what you think is happening is what's actually happening.
Aside from that, this book was very suspenseful, with plenty of romance but also a healthy amount of story, and some very unexpected plot twists, along with a properly horrifying ending (It is a trilogy after all). And no I won't spoil it, it's just too good. I will however, upon request, post a scene from it.
All in all, this was a very good book and it definitely kindled my interest in the sci-fi genre.

Gritty, brilliantly drawn characters, great for Sci-fi fans, Cree is forced to undergo behavioural modification therapy, he is does not have the emotion love, so they use the emotions he does have anger, hate, jealousy etc. Beware contains vivid scenes of violence, slavery & torture, & crosses lines not usually crossed, this is not a honey coated romance but a fascinating read that is brilliantly complex. First of the Wind Demon Trilogy.Next is DarkWind, Book Two, WindDemon Trilogy follwed lastly by Evilwind.

Well... that was different. But not in a bad way, just not what I expected. This book isn't a romance or erotic book, as I thought it would be. There were maybe 3 short spots where the chars got together, in a very long book. I'd give it maybe a 1/5 for my "heat index" radar. This is a sci-fi book and I did enjoy it as a pure sci-fi book it but not what I expected to pickup. The world building was strong, but there was just so much of it. I'm onto the next book and so far that's starting off and setting up as more of a romance type of book, but we'll see.

Had read most of the Western Wind series and thoroughly enjoyed them.Snuck a look at Charlotte's web site and found the recommended reading order list. This was book 1 and I loved it.It was great to go back to the beginning and get the background of what I had already read. This book was quite heart wrenching and if it hadn't been a fantasy novel I don't think I could have finished it. Charlotte is a great author and I am devouring her books at a fast rate.

The beginning of the book is quite entertaining. The grumpy hero Cameroon Cree can not explain himself why he is attracted to the biologist Bridget. But the plot quickly gets out of hand: too many new people, a back-and-forth to different locations, and no longer a comprehensible story.

2.5 stars. This book was really hard to read, parts of it had me sucked in but then I was lost again. I really can't say anything about it because even while typing this I'm having trouble remembering the good bits. Not to my liking.

3 1/2 stars.

This was a little slow to start. And the author was a little vague on some parts. But it sure ended with a bang.
