Cree & Dawn #5.5

Highland Hearts

Rate this book
It’s moving time for Cree & Dawn and trouble is brewing.

The new castle is finally finished and ready, but is Dawn? She is feeling reluctant to make the move and does not understand why.

Cree, on the other hand, is ready for the move as are the children, but he is annoyed as well since there are multiple troubles brewing. Not only is there worry that the King will demand his help should talks with the King of Norway turn confrontational and force a battle, but William, the architect of the castle, and a troop of his warriors have been abducted and the ransom demand is high. But the most troublesome issue for Cree is that a young artist, a friend of William’s, has arrived unexpectedly and shows far too much interest in Dawn.

Cree has much to contend with, a move to see to, a clan to keep safe, people to rescue, and a young man who is about to discover the very reason Cree is a feared and infamous Highland warrior.

Come visit with Cree & Dawn, family, and friends as they tackle another adventure together.

Included in the book is a map of the new castle and surrounding village.

While the antics of Cree and Dawn's children was cute and it was interesting to see how their move to a new home went...

....ultimately, the story didn't have much substance beyond that.

Basically, it starts off strong, with Cree's warriors and the builder, William, being captured and held hostage by an unknown enemy; however, after that, things seem to severely slow down and reveals are way too long in coming, almost like the author was trying to hold off making anything happen, just so she could lengthen her page count or something and pretend there's a story here when really, there isn't--not really. The end result is 166 pages that feels much longer, and that's never a good thing.

So...yeah, it definitely could have been better, I'm sorry to say, and I do wish that it'd had more to it, all in all. Ultimately, it was just an intro for Cavell from The Scarred Highlander, and since I've already read that....

The clan is growing. Everyone is excited for the next chapter in their lives but Dawn felt ill at ease, warning of new trouble for her family and clan. It came in the guise of an old comrade of Cree who ambushed some of Cree's men on their way back.

Together, Cree and Dawn solved this problem before them, discovered a deeper plot behind it all, and kept pace in the next chapter of their lives.

I love reading stories of Cree and Dawn. So, I was really excited to read this new Novella, and boy it did not disappoint! I couldn't stop reading until I reached the end of the book.

I love the progression of their lives and their character development. As the story of the couple progressed with each book that I read, I see how both of them grow as individuals and as a couple. Their personality development gets better and better every time.

The story was quite interesting with the introduction of new characters. I'm particularly interested in Cavell. I would like to know more about his past and the journey he took to get there. I also would like to know what happens next after this encounter with Cree. Would this be another book series for Fletcher? I truly hope so.

I also would like to see what happens to Lizbeth in future stories. Cree and Dawn's daughter is such a character that I get excited every time she was mentioned or featured in the chapter. I want to know of her adventures and misadventures that she will find herself in. I can't wait for more stories about her.

All in all, I laughed, cried, was taken to the edge of my seat, and fell in love with Cree and Dawn all over again. I love every moment of it and I would really like more stories to come.

A Heartfelt Adventure:
Cree and Dawn take us on another thrilling heartfelt adventure that is filled with every emotion you could possibly want in a romance adventure story.
The tension constantly builds as Cree tries to figure out the puzzling demands and why some of his warriors have been captured and held prisoners.
I love the strong courageous yet sweet personability of Cree that shines through and the strength and love that Dawn shares with her husband, her children, and the Corrick clan.
The story moves at a fast pace with several terrifying moments, endearing times, plenty of love, and I had a few chuckles throughout the charming story.
Still favorites of mine that deserve mention is the Beast and Old Mary. You gotta love them.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy for my honest opinions.

Highland Hearts by Donna Fletcher
A Cree and Dawn Novella
Dawn is bothered. They are building a new keep and will soon be moving into it. She should be so pleased. It was beautiful, yet leaving all the memories behind was hard for her. And she felt that she and Cree were drifting apart. Was he tired of being married to a voiceless woman?
After some of Cree’s men were captured, he had to figure out what was happening and who was behind it. Not as easy as it should be. But he’d figure it out and keep his family and clan safe.
Cree and Dawn’s stories are outstanding. With Dawn being mute, the author does a beautiful job of writing her voice. The children and Beast add to the story as well.

I always enjoy going back to find out what two of my favorite characters, along with members of their clan, have been up to. This story is short but very well written with a great plot, a few new characters and a mystery for Cree to solve. I love how protective he is of Dawn and his children. I hope this author has many more stories to come surrounding this family as she writes about them in such a way the read never tires of revisiting them over and over. I thoroughly loved going back to the highlands for an update on this wonderful couple!

You know how some series that have more than 3 books begin to drag and just aren't any fun to read after book 3? This series is not like that. Every time there is a new book from Donna Fletcher I read it. This is the lastest book in her Cree and Dawn set and it was still just as interesting as the first book. While I was able to guess some of what was happening other surprises popped up. This is also an author whose characters remain true to themselves through marriage, children, and moving. This book pulled my heartstrings in a momma kind of way and I loved every moment of it.

Well written, witty, page turning, action packed portrayal of the love of Clan and family and the greatness of Lord Cree and his wife Dawn. A move to their new castle, betrayal of a mercenary Cree trained, and lots of twist and turns of who is the enemy. If you've read Donna Fletcher, especially her Cree and Dawn books, this is a must read. If you haven't read her your missing many great books/series of the Highlands.

I just love Cree and Dawn! They're one of my favorite fictional couples. That said, this wasn't my favorite Cree and Dawn book. It wasn't bad, not at all, but I like my romances to have a little more action in them. And while there's a bit of action and suspense in this novella, I would have liked to have seen some more. Still though, this was pretty good, and it had some very sweet and loving moments happening, which I quite enjoyed. So if you're a fan of Cree and Dawn you won't be disappointed.. Unless you were hoping for a novel rather than a novella. LOL!
