Handoff Management for Integrated Wireless Mobile Networks: An overview of Preemptive and Priority Reservation Handoff Scheme

Rate this book
This book proposes an analytical model for dynamic priority queuing of handover calls in Integrated Wireless Networks(IWN).The model employs a queuing discipline with two classes of priority for handover calls.First priority(handoff voice call)and second priority(handoff data call),are employed for the two classes of handover calls.Buffers are provided for both, voice and data calls to reduce the blocking probability. In addition,to reduce the incomplete transmission probability of data service,a dynamic multi-channel allocation scheme with channel de-allocation and guard channels are provided for data traffic.Compared with the conventional method where the system adopts a single channel allocation scheme with guard channel for data users, the proposed scheme shows significant improvement in data blocking probability, throughout and mean service time. Results also show that the predictions of the analytical model developed in this book is in very good agreement with simulation results. The proposed analytical work is anticipated to be a very useful tool in evaluating performance of present and future IWN employing dynamic priority queuing for handovers and its more efficient algorithms.
