The last enemy is Death in this classic Christian fantasy. Six there shall be; Six to see the seventh free. Six to know the coming day; Six to wake the fire. After rescuing the Gypsies from destruction, the warrior farmers of Pravik have returned home. But peace proves as dangerous as war-confined to the city and surrounded on all sides, they risk starving to death. When emissaries arrive inviting the Ploughman to form an alliance with the Empire, he rides for Athrom. But in doing so, he ignores the vision of the blind seer Virginia Ramsey, who has seen deadly consequences at the end of his journey. Desperate for help from another source, Virginia sets out on a journey of her own, accompanied by the Darkworld priestess Rehtse-a journey to find the King and bring him to Pravik's aid. Their parallel journeys will at last open the way to the worlds unseen, bringing in powers, terrors, beauties, and a final confrontation no one could imagine. COMING DAY is the last book in The Seventh World Trilogy, a Christian fantasy adventure with hints of steampunk and depths of spiritual truth. If you love page-turning action, memorable characters, and inspirational fiction that confronts darkness, reveals breathtaking beauty, and moves your heart to connect more deeply with God, this series is for you.
Rachel Starr Thomson is in love with Jesus and convinced the gospel will change the world.
Rachel is a woman of many talents and even more interests: she’s a writer, editor, indie publisher, singer, speaker, Bible study teacher, and world traveler. The author of the Seventh World Trilogy, The Oneness Cycle, and many other books, she also tours North America and other parts of the world as a speaker and spoken-word artist with 1:11 Ministries.
Adventures in the Kingdom launched in 2015 as a way to bring together Rachel’s explorations, in fiction and nonfiction, of what it means to live all of life in the kingdom of God.
Rachel lives in the beautiful Niagara Region of southern Ontario, just down the river from the Falls. She drinks far too much coffee and tea, daydreams of visiting Florida all winter, and hikes the Bruce Trail when she gets a few minutes. A homeschool graduate from a highly creative and entrepreneurial family, she believes we’d all be much better off if we pitched our television sets out the nearest window.
LIFE AND WORK (BRIEFLY) Rachel began writing on scrap paper sometime around grade 1. Her stories revolved around jungle animals and sometimes pirates (they were actual rats . . . she doesn’t remember if the pun was intended). Back then she also illustrated her own work, a habit she left behind with the scrap paper.
Rachel’s first novel, a humorous romp called Theodore Pharris Saves the Universe, was written when she was 13, followed within a year by the more serious adventure story Reap the Whirlwind. Around that time, she had a life-changing encounter with God.
The next several years were spent getting to know God, developing a new love for the Scriptures, and discovering a passion for ministry through working with a local ministry with international reach, Sommer Haven Ranch International. Although Rachel was raised in a strong Christian home, where discipleship was as much a part of homeschooling as academics, these years were pivotal in making her faith her own.
At age 17, Rachel started writing again, this time penning the essays that became Letters to a Samuel Generation and Heart to Heart: Meeting With God in the Lord’s Prayer.
In 2001, Rachel returned to fiction, writing what would become her bestselling novel and then a bestselling series–Worlds Unseen, book 1 of The Seventh World Trilogy.
A classic fantasy adventure marked by Rachel’s lyrical style, Worlds Unseen encapsulates much of what makes Rachel’s writing unique: fantasy settings with one foot in the real world; adventure stories that explore depths of spiritual truth; and a knack for opening readers’ eyes anew to the beauty of their own world–and of themselves.
In 2003, Rachel began freelance editing, a side job that soon blossomed into a full-time career. Four years later, in 2007, she co-founded Soli Deo Gloria Ballet with Carolyn Currey, an arts ministry that in 2015 would be renamed as 1:11 Ministries. To a team of dancers and singers, Rachel brought the power of words, writing and delivering original narrations, spoken-word poetry, and songs for over a dozen productions. The team has ministered coast-to-coast in Canada as well as in the United States and internationally.
Rachel began publishing her own work under the auspices of Little Dozen Press in 2007, but it was in 2011, with the e-book revolution in full swing, that writing became a true priority again. Since that time Rachel has published many of her older never-published titles and written two new fiction series, The Oneness Cycle and The Prophet Trilogy.
Over 30 of Rachel’s novels, short stories, and nonfiction works are now available in digital editions. Many are available in paperback as well, with more released regularly.
The God she fell in love with as a teenager has remained the focus of Rachel’s life, work, and speaking.
Intense but satisfying conclusion to the Seventh World Trilogy
The third and final book in Rachel Starr Thomson’s Seventh World Trilogy, Coming Day, is something of an allegory the life of Christ and His disciples. Starting with the introduction of two new and unlikely heroes, is stampedes toward a powerful and somewhat unexpected climax.
Thomson draws the battle lines with three opposing forces: 1) the Blackness, headed by the demonic Morning Star, who indwells a former devotee and commands most of the emperor’s army; 2) the Order of the Spider, controlled by the Witch Evelyn; 3) the Gifted and forces of light, who are loyal to the King. Evelyn has been killing gifted people and storing up their powers, so she can defeat Morning Star and rule humanity herself. Morning Star wants to defeat the King and cares not who or what he destroys to that end. And the gifted are gradually learning how they fit into the King’s plans to summon His return and bring light and freedom back to the world.
Many times the gifted are captured and seem doomed to die and fail. But powers of the earth help them. A priestess of the Darkworld sheds more light on their mission through the ancient prophecies she learned in her underground home. And the final member of the Six comes into his calling and joins the others we have met in volumes 1 & 2. They usher in the King, who comes in a most unexpected and unlikely disguise. And then the battle of the ages ensues.
There are many casualties in this war. Many faithful and faithless perish. People choose sides—many to their own detriment. There are moments of tragedy and triumph, but nary a dull moment.
If you enjoy fantasy, this trilogy is masterfully written. It also points us unashamedly to the Source of true power, meaning and purpose—our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of light and life. The first two books in this series you can enjoy for free in eBook format; the third is worth the modest amount you pay for it!
And will we recognize the righteous King when he comes?
While our heroes step forth in this story as divinely Gifted, they only guess at the true nature of the God they seek to know. As one pointed out, “Our gifts show who he is, but not in full measure. Healing is in Miracle, but life is in him—just as song is in Maggie, but all music is in him. The power to hear is in Nicolas, but the power to speak what is heard is in him.”
Rachel’s books are full of struggling orphans and heart weary widows, yet the characters grow in dignity, hope and grace as they seek to obey the call of the coming King. However, like the disciples of biblical times, they don’t begin to fathom the nature and path of that grace.
This allegory, like so many of Ms Thomson’s books, will surprise and engage your imagination and perceptions with her plot and character twists. Her characters, like us in real life, keep hoping for a clean ending to evil and the opening of heaven on earth, yet the war goes on. And we secretly fight and hope with them!
I truly enjoyed these three books. They resonated my beliefs and faith. I hope they will bolster those who read them also. I would definitely recommend these books.
Age group: 13+ For scary situations, and mild violence
After finished Burning Light, I started Coming Day as soon as I could. I really, really wanted to know what was going to happen to all the characters I had come to love, as well as see the end of this epic fantasy trilogy. It was nothing, absolutely nothing like I expected. It was far better.
This story opens at a very low point. The hope and the energy that the last two books have built on has waned. People are discouraged and weary, a feeling that touched me deeply, because I have been there. I have been at a point where I wondered if anything good would ever happen again. Rachel was able to pull on my emotions and make me feel what the characters were feeling.
As I said before, Rachel’s writing style is nothing short of lyrical. I reread many portions and read some of them aloud, just because they sounded amazing. I can see this as a wonderful book to read aloud as a family.
The most exciting part of this book was that you see all the threads you have been following pulling together. All the stories are pulling together, and so are The Gifted.
The bad guys, as in the first two books, were pretty dark. There were also several intense parts, but I still really enjoyed the book a lot. The ending was nothing like what I expected it to be. It was so much better. Rachel again showed herself in the top tier of writers for her imaginative story- telling that took this allegory beyond the norm. I recommend this book for those whole loved the first two, love fantasy, adventure, and allegories.
You can buy this book on Amazon, Barns and Noble, and Smashwords
I read the first two of this Christian Science Fiction series (the Seventh World Trilogy) for free and this one I actually had to buy. Me being a cheapskate should tell you that I thought it would be worth the price--and it was.
If you read the two previous reviews of the two previous books (or read the books) (Worlds Unseen and Burning Light), you will remember some of the characters were gifted. Maggie was gifted with songs that foretold, comforted, and healed; Virginia was blind most of the time but had extraordinary visions; the Ploughman had the gift of being able to call on angelic warriors when needed; Miracle could bring healing even to the worst wounded; Nicolas, the one with the fire eyes; and Kieran, the boy in whose footsteps plants grew. The prophesy said when the six were woven together something great would happen. The six were scattered from here to yonder, some captured by the evil ones and in danger of life and limb. The Blackness sought to capture all of them and grab their power.
Talking about being woven together, this book is something else. You need to grab it and read, read, read. Some truly inspired writing here!
Finished reading "Coming Day" the third in a fantasy trilogy; an exciting story depicting the Biblical narrative in a fun to read and fast moving fantasy.
